The Indian state of Madhya Pradesh has two central universities, sixteen state universities, [note 1] three deemed universities, twenty private university three institutes of national importance, including an IIT. All India Institute of Medical Sciences and an NIT. The state also has an IIM and an IISER and Two NLUs.

The Department of Higher Education under Ministry of Human Resource Development lists 81 centrally funded institutes [1] and 42 central universities. [2] Two central universities, two regional centres of IGNOU (in Jabalpur and Bhopal), and eight centrally funded institutes are located in Madhya Pradesh.

University

As of August 2011, UGC recognizes fifteen state universities in Madhya Pradesh, [3] of which eleven universities receive financial assistance from central government and UGC in addition to Madhya Pradesh state government. Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya (RVSKVV) was bifurcated from Jawaharlal Nehru Agricultural University by an act of the Madhya Pradesh government. [24] While it is not listed by the UGC as a separate university, it is listed by the ICAR.

The historic city and its fortress have been ruled by several historic Indian kingdoms. From the Alchon Huns in the 5th century AD to Gurjara Pratihara dynasty in the 8th century AD. It was passed on to Kachchhapaghatas in the 10th century AD. It fell into the hands of the Delhi Sultanate in 12th century AD, it was then passed on to the Tomars in the 13th century AD who were the vassal rulers of the Delhi Sultanate. The Mughal Empire conquered the city and its fortress in the 16th century AD. When the Mughal Empire was declining, it fell into the hands of Jat rulers, then to the Maratha in 1754, and lastly it was passed on to the Scindia Dynasty of Maratha Empire in early 18th century. In April 2021, It was found that Gwalior had the best air quality index amongst the 4 major cities in Madhya Pradesh.

Vijaya Raje Scindia, known popularly as the Rajmata Scindia, was an Indian politician and consort of the last ruling Maharaja of Gwalior, Jiwajirao Scindia, in British Raj. In later life, she was elected repeatedly to both houses of the Indian parliament. She was one of the founding members of the Bharatiya Janata Party. William Dalrymple wrote in his 1998 book The Age of Kali that she had been called "a madwoman and a saint; a dangerous reactionary and a national saviour; a stubborn and self-righteous old lunatic and a brave and resilient visionary."

Waraseoni is a tehsil and Nagar Palika Parishad (municipality) in Balaghat district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is situated 16 km (10 mi) from the district headquarters. Waraseoni is second most populous town in Balaghat District after Balaghat.

Yashodhara Raje Scindia is an Indian politician who served as Minister of Sports and Youth Welfare, Technical Education, Skill Development and Employment of Madhya Pradesh under Shivraj Singh Chouhan. She is also the former Minister for Commerce, Industries and Employment in Government of Madhya Pradesh. She is the youngest daughter of Jivajirao Scindia, Maratha Maharaja of Gwalior and the Late Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia of Gwalior. She was first elected from Gwalior to the 14th Lok Sabha via a by-poll in 2007 and again in 2009 General Election. She is a Member of Legislative Assembly from Shivpuri constituency in Madhya Pradesh since 2013.

Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Airport, also known as Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Terminal, is a Domestic Airport manage and operates by Airport Authority of India serving the city of Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India. It is located in Maharajpura, 10 km north-east of Gwalior. It is one of the four major airports in Madhya Pradesh. The airport is named after Vijaya Raje Scindia, one of the founding members of Bharatiya Janata Party, former prominent Member of Parliament and Maharani of the erstwhile Gwalior State ruled by the Scindia dynasty. It is the oldest and largest airport of Madhya Pradesh in terms of size and only airport in Central India which has two runways. It is the closest Airport to the famous Kuno National Park.

Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya is an all-girls boarding school in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, in India. It was established by the Rajmata of Gwalior State, Vijaya Raje Scindia. The first president of India, Dr Rajendra Prasad, in the presence of Maharaja Jiwaji Rao Scindia, Maharani Vijaya Raje Scindia and Mrs Rajvanshi Devi Prasad, officially declared Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya open in 1956. The school started with 31 students, of which only 6 were boarders.

The Indian Agricultural Universities Association or IAUA is a registered Indian society based in New Delhi which aims to promote agricultural research, education and extension in universities and states.

The Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE), formerly Lakshmibai National University of Physical Education, is a higher education institute deemed-to-be-university, located in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India. Under the aegis of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and committed for excellence in physical education, coaching and sports in the country. The campus is on the Agra–Mumbai Highway, at a walking distance of around 500m from Gwalior railway station, Shaktinagar, Gwalior.

Shrimant Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Medical College is a full-fledged tertiary Medical college in shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh. It was established in the year 2018. The college imparts the degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS). Nursing and para-medical courses are also offered. The college is affiliated to Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University and is recognized by Medical Council of India. The selection to the college is done on the basis of merit through National Eligibility and Entrance Test.

Vikram Award is an award given by the Government of Madhya Pradesh, India, for outstanding performance in national and international competitions or contribution in the field of sports. The Vikram Award was instituted on May 15, 1990, with a purpose to acknowledge outstanding individual sporting achievements in events such as the Olympic Games, Asian Games, and National Games of India. It is the highest sports award in Madhya Pradesh, granted to athletes who are residents of the state and have competed in national and international senior-level competitions for a minimum of two years within the past five years. The award includes a cash prize of ₹2,00000, along with a blazer, tie, and certificate, presented by the Madhya Pradesh Government through the Madhya Pradesh Sports Authority. Provisions exist for offering government jobs to Vikram Awardees in Class III and IV category positions.
