Atal Bihari Vajpayee Hindi Vishwavidyalaya is a state university in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India. It was established in December 2011. [2] The university is named after Hindi poet and former Prime minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. [3] Mohan Lal Chhipa is the first Vice Chancellor of the university. [3]
As of 2016 [update] , the university operates from two rented buildings. Classes are taken at the old Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly while administrative functions are help at a building in the Madhya Pradesh Mungalia Kot campus. [4] The foundation stone for a 50 acres (0.20 km2) campus in Mungalia Kot was laid in 2013. [4]
The university is promoting study in the Hindi language. In 2015 they asked the Medical Council of India (MCI) to allow students to write MBBS course papers in Hindi. [2] In 2016 they opened the first engineering course in India to be taught in the Hindi language, [4] although in 2017 the university was considering discontinuing the programme due to lack of students and infrastructure. [5]
In November 2020, the university introduced First Aid Specialist Diploma course, and other first aid courses in collaboration with the First Aid Council of India (FACI), Delhi. The FACI is presided by Shabab Aalam. [6]
Atal Bihari Vajpayee was an Indian politician and poet who served three terms as the 10th Prime Minister of India, first for a term of 13 days in 1996, then for a period of 13 months from 1998 to 1999, followed by a full term from 1999 to 2004. Vajpayee was one of the co-founders and a senior leader of the BJP. He was a member of the RSS, a Hindu nationalist volunteer organisation. He was the first Indian prime minister not of the INC to serve a full term in office. He was also a renowned poet and a writer.

He was born in the village of Kukreshwar located between Manasa and Rampura in the Neemuch District of Madhya Pradesh.
Lalji Tandon was an Indian politician who served as the 18th Governor of Madhya Pradesh and 28th Governor of Bihar. He had also served as a member of parliament from 1996 until 2014 and as the Leader of the Opposition of the Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh from 2003 until 2007. He was a member of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a protégé of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
