Education in Rourkela

Rourkela is the educational, technical and medical research hub of Western Odisha. It houses many English medium schools which provide Central Board of Secondary Education and Indian Certificate of Secondary Education certificates to their students.

The students of these schools represent their schools in various national level and international competitions including IMO, IChO and NASA. [1] [2] [3] Rourkela also houses one of the premier institutes of the country, NIT Rourkela. [4]

There are overall 15 colleges for arts, science and commerce streams under the Sambalpur university. [5] There are also private engineering colleges Padmanava (PCE), Rourkela Institute of Management Studies (RIMS), DAMITS, RIT. This colleges come under the jurisdiction of Biju Pattnaik University of Technology (BPUT) and the head office is located in Rourkela. [6]

Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) is a public state university located in Rourkela, Odisha, India. It was established on 21 November 2002 and was named after Biju Patnaik, the former Chief Minister of Odisha.

Kansbahal is a modern industrial town situated in the state of Odisha India. It lies on the State Highway #10 about 25 km from Rourkela main city; and on the main railway route between Howrah (Kolkata) and CST/Kurla (Mumbai). Kansbahal comes under the jurisdiction of Rourkela Municipal Corporation.

Barapada Engineering School (BES) was founded in 1957. Harekrushna Mahatab, the Chief Minister of Odisha, India conceived the idea with the objective of developing it in due course to a rural university.

The Ghanashyam Hemalata Institute of Technology and Management (GHITM) is a private institute located in outside the city of Puri, in the Indian state of Odisha. The institute's campus is spread over 122 acres (0.49 km2) at Rasnanda Jena Vihar. GHITM has one school and one college, containing a total of four academic departments. GHITM is affiliated with the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT). The institute is located on National Highway 203, popularly known as Marine Drive, about 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) from Puri. The campus is spread over approximately 122 acres (49 ha) of land on the eastern shore of the Bay of Bengal. The institute is recognized by the Govt. Of India, approved by the All India Council for Technical Education and affiliated with Biju Patnaik University of Technology.

College of Engineering Bhubaneswar (COEB) is a private institute located in Patia, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The college was established in the year 1999 under the aegis of the Nabadigant Educational Trust and is a part of the Koustuv Group of Institutions. CEB is approved by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) New Delhi, Govt. of India and affiliated to Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), Rourkela, Government of Odisha. College of Engineering Bhubaneswar is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) New Delhi, Govt. of India.

Majhighariani Institute of Technology and Science is located in Rayagada, Odisha, India. It was started in 1999 by the Basantdevi Charitable Trust. Its name came from the Goddess Majhighariani, deity of Rayagada. The college was approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the government of Odisha. The college is affiliated to Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), Rourkela and Berhampur University. It is an ISO 9001:2008 certified institute of eastern India.

Mahavir Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) was established in 2001. It is spread over a 102-acre campus. It is located beside the NH-5 and about 8 km. from Bhubaneswar bus-stand towards Khordha. The college is approved by AICTE and affiliated by Biju Patnaik University of Technology. An ISO 9001:2000 Certified college.

Purushottam Institute of Engineering and Technology (PIET) is a private co-aid undergraduate engineering college located in semi rural part of Mandiakudar of semi urban town Kansbahal. The institute was established in 1999. In the beginning, the institute temporarily functioned in the campus of Biju Patnaik Hockey Stadium, Sector 06 of city Rourkela, with small a number of students and faculty. In 2001 the institute moved to new campus located at Mandiakudar, 30 km away from the city Rourkela.

The Institute of Management and Information Technology(IMIT), Cuttack is a state government management institution and the first institute of information technology and management established by the government of Odisha in 1962. It is one of the constituent colleges of BPUT, Rourkela, situated in the city of Cuttack in the eastern part of the state of Odisha, India.

Parala Maharaja Engineering College (PMEC), Brahmapur, Odisha is Government engineeringcollege in southern Odisha, India. Established in 2009, the college was inaugurated by Naveen Patnaik, the then chief minister of Odisha. This college is named after the King Krushna Chandra Gajapati honorably known as Maharaja Sir Krushna Chandra Gajapati Narayana Dev KCIE, was a key personality and regarded as the architect of an Independent united Odisha State. The Parala Maharaja engineering College was approved by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) New Delhi, Govt. of India and was affiliated to Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), Rourkela, Government of Odisha but now, it is an autonomous college from 21st January, 2021 along with GCE, Kalahandi and GCE, Keonjhar. This college is also accredited as "B+" by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) New Delhi, Govt. of India.

The Modern Institute of Technology and Management (MITM), Odia: ମଡ଼ର୍ଣ୍ଣ ବୈଷୟିକ ଓ ପରିଚାଳନା ପ୍ରତିଷ୍ଠାନ) is an engineering and management institute in Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha. This institution is approved by All India Council for Technical Education and affiliated to Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Rourkela. This college was established in 2008 by Prof. Dr. K.C.Dash under the Basanti Dash trust.

Padmanava College of Engineering (PCE), Rourkela was established in academic year 1999-2000 to impart degree courses in engineering under the Padmanva Educational Trust, Bhubaneswar. The prime objective of the trust has been the promotion of facilities of technical education for people of west Odisha and around.

The Barrister Ranjit Mohanty Group of Institution (BRM) was established in 2000 as BRM trust for providing education in computer science for school students for Government of Odisha. Subsequently, it diversified by adding engineering, management and vocational courses to its curriculum. All the courses except diploma engineering courses are affiliated with Biju Patnaik University of Technology. The diploma engineering courses are affiliated to SCTE & VT of Odisha.
