Deepika Mahila Sanghati (DMS) is a women-run NGO (non-governmental organization) in the city of Rourkela, in sector 2. It has effective contributions towards welfare of women [1] and their empowerment. This NGO plays a major role in corporate social responsibility (CSR) [2] [3] [4] [5] programs associated with SAIL (Rourkela Steel Plant).
Deepika Mahila Sanghati was one of the main pioneer organizations for the opening of Deepika English Medium School in 1976. Now two schools — Deepika Ispat Siksha Sadan and Beginners Academy — are run by DMS.
The Masala and Medical units continue to touch all in Rourkela and nearby villages. With the patronage of RSP CSR departments, units like Hastakargha, sanitary napkin and Phenyl are operating from Deepika Mahila Jagriti Sansthan, Sec-2 Rourkela. A snacks selling outlet 'Swalpahar' has been opened in the IGH campus to take care of the needs of patients and attendants. All these units employ or train needy local women with an aim to make them independent and self sufficient.
Presently Suman Lata is the acting president of Deepika Mahila Sanghati, with Anuradha Banerjee and Minakshi Mahapatra as vice presidents, Sujata Khuntia as secretary, Namita Mahapatra as joint secretary, Poonam Shah as treasurer, and Rashmi Das as joint treasurer.
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a type of international private business self-regulation that aims to contribute to societal goals of a philanthropic, activist, or charitable nature by engaging in or supporting volunteering or ethically-oriented practices. While once it was possible to describe CSR as an internal organisational policy or a corporate ethic strategy, that time has passed as various international laws have been developed and various organisations have used their authority to push it beyond individual or even industry-wide initiatives. While it has been considered a form of corporate self-regulation for some time, over the last decade or so it has moved considerably from voluntary decisions at the level of individual organizations to mandatory schemes at regional, national, and international levels.
Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) is an Indian government owned steel manufacturing agency based in New Delhi, India. Daan Utsav was formerly known as The Joy of Giving Week. The Joy of Giving Week (JGW) is a "festival of philanthropy" that aims to become a part of the Indian ethos, with the Week being celebrated every year covering Gandhi Jayanti by engaging people through "acts of giving" - money, time, resources and skills - spanning the corporate, NGO and government sectors, schools, colleges and the general public. Originally called "India Giving Week", the name "Joy of Giving Week" emerged from a set of choices provided by the ad agency, Euro RSCG India, which provided PR, creative and media services for the ‘Joy of Giving Week’. This initiative was supported by many NGO's and Corporates. Corporate participate with this venture to fulfill their CSR function.
NGO 2.0 project is designed to enhance the digital and social media literacy of grassroots NGOs in the underdeveloped regions of China. The Project was launched by Prof Jing Wang, in collaboration with the University of Science and Technology of China, NGO Communication Net, Friends of Nature, Sun Yat-sen University, and Ogilvy & Mather Beijing and Shanghai. In 2011, Tsinghua University's Future Media Center joined the partnership. Secondary partners include Naranda Foundation, MilwardBrown, and CreditEase Co. (2010-2011).

Ambujammal Desikachari née Srinivasa Iyengar was an Indian independence activist and women's rights activist. A Gandhian, she participated in the Civil Disobedience Movement and served as Vice-President of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee. Ambujammal was awarded the Padma Shri in 1964. She died in 1993.

Constituted in 1964 by the Ministry of Steel, Government of India for formulating guidelines for production, allocation, pricing and distribution of iron and steel materials, Joint Plant Committee (JPC) underwent a major transformation in 1992, when following the de-regulation of Indian steel industry, it moulded itself into a facilitator for industry, focusing on giving form to a comprehensive and non-partisan databank – the first of its kind in the country – on the Indian iron and steel industry.
