Sharat Katariya (born 15 June 1978) is an Indian film director and screenwriter.

Career

Katariya started out as an assistant director to Rajat Kapoor during the making of Raghu Romeo. He also worked as a lyricist on the film. Apart from this he has written dialogues for films Bheja Fry and Sunglass.

Sharat has also worked with Deven Khote and Kunal Vijaykar on his directorial venture Vishesh Films' Fruit and Nut. [1]

Katariya worked as the first assistant on Rok Sako To Rok Lo. Sharat’s film That's What My Dad Used to Say was shown at the Berlin International Film Festival. Sharat worked on a short film, Long Distance Call [2] starring Ranvir Shorey. In 2006, Sharat penned lyrics for Mixed Doubles. [3]

His directorial debut film 10 m Love (2010) was based on William Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream , with Rajat Kapoor, Tisca Chopra and Purab Kohli as leads. [4] Following this, he went on to direct Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015) and Sui Dhaaga (2018). [5]

This film was based on the French movie 1998 Le Dîner de Cons which was later adapted into a 2010 Hollywood film Dinner for Schmucks. It is the first installment of the Bheja Fry trilogy.

The film's final worldwide gross was 71.85 crore (US$9.0 million).

Edited by Charu Shree Roy, the film stars Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma as a married couple in small-town India who begin their own small-scale clothing business. It was shot in Chanderi, Bhopal, Delhi and Ghaziabad. The film was released in India on 28 September 2018; it received positive reviews from critics and proved to be a commercial success at the box office, It received five nominations at the 64th Filmfare Awards including Best Actress (Critics) for Sharma and Best Supporting Actress for Yamini Dass, who played Dhawan's mother in the film.
