Shawna Gayle Russell (born August 14, 1978) is an American country music singer, songwriter and musician from Okemah, Oklahoma. Russell’s musical style combines country, rock and Americana influences. To date, Russell has released three albums. [1]
Russell was born to Keith and Teresa Russell in Holdenville, Oklahoma. Russell married Brandon Burnett on Oct. 5, 1998.
Russell first sang in public at age seven. When she was thirteen, she and her father Keith Russell formed a country band that played clubs and Elks Club lodges on weekends. At age 17, she joined her uncle Tim Russell's band and toured the club circuit across the Southwestern United States. Russell honed her vocals and developed her talent on acoustic rhythm, electric slide and lead guitar. The band toured clubs and other venues across the country, including the Grizzly Rose in Denver, Billy Bob's Texas in Fort Worth, and the Wildhorse Saloon in Nashville. Russell then spent three years doing vocals and playing guitar in Ty England’s band, including a 2005 USO Tour of South Korea. [2] In 2007, Russell started her solo career.
Russell released her debut album, Goddess, on March 4, 2008. [3] Recorded in Oklahoma City and produced by Tim Russell and Ted Curtis, the album featured drummer Russ Kunkel and bassist David Santos. The recording engineer was Julian King. [4] Goddess was mixed by Grammy-winner Nathaniel Kunkel. [5] Russell co-wrote 12 of the 13 songs on the album. Goddess received positive reviews from Country Weekly [6] The Oklahoman, [7] and a CMA Close Up magazine “New Artist Spotlight” feature where her voice was compared to Martina McBride, Stevie Nicks and Bonnie Raitt. [8] The album produced three singles; “Goddess,” “Should’ve Been Born With Wheels” and “Fire In The Desert.”
Russell’s second album, Shawna Russell was released on June 7, 2011. Recorded in Nashville, the album reunited Russell with King (this time as producer) and with Clif Doyal and Tim Russell as co-producers. Russell wrote or co-wrote the 10 songs on the album, which included remixes of three songs from Goddess. Working with Russell on Shawna Russell were guitarists Bryan Sutton and Jon Conley, keyboardists Charles Judge and Jim “Moose” Brown, drummers Shannon Forrest and Billy Thomas and bassist Mike Brignardello.
More country-leaning in its sound than Goddess, Shawna Russell received good reviews from Roughstock, [9] Music News Nashville, [10] the Oklahoma Gazette , [11] Billboard, [12] and others. The album produced two U.S. singles, “Get Right Or Get Left” and “Waitin’ On Sunrise,” the latter charting in the Top 30 on the national MusicRow CountryBreakout Chart [13] in May 2012. It also produce two European singles, “Sounds Like A Party” and “Everybody’s Got A Story (Remix).” The 11th Annual Independent Music Awards nominated Shawna Russell for best "Country Album" [14] in 2012. Russell released two music videos that received playtime at CMT, [15] GAC, The Country Network, [16] and other video outlets.
In 2016, Russell became the host of The Country Network (TCN) show "Our Land The Music Highway". The show features Americana, Texas and Red Dirt music artists, interviews and music from Russell and her band.
In June 2017, Russell released Back Around on the Our Land label she created with Tim Russell and Jerry Putnam. The EP was recorded with Russell's touring band, the Ranch Hands, at Tim's "Runnin R Ranch" studios.
Sugarland is an American country music duo founded in Atlanta, Georgia. The duo consists of singer-songwriters Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush. They were founded in 2002, at which point Kristen Hall was also a member. All three had experience in folk rock: Nettles had recorded in the groups Soul Miner's Daughter and Jennifer Nettles Band, Bush had recorded two albums as one-half of the duo Billy Pilgrim, and Hall had recorded two solo albums. After Hall left in 2006, Nettles and Bush continued as a duo.
Emerson Drive was a Canadian country music band consisting of Brad Mates, Danick Dupelle, Mike Melancon (drums), and Dale Wallace. The band was founded in 1995 as 12 Gauge, which consisted of Mates, Pat Allingham (fiddle), Steven Swager, Chris Hartman (keyboards), Dan Binns (guitar), David Switzer (guitar), and Remi Barre (drums); Swager was replaced with Jeff Loberg early on. After recording under this name, the band moved to the United States in 1999 and renamed themselves to Emerson Drive. They released two albums for the former DreamWorks Records Nashville branch: Emerson Drive in 2002 and What If? in 2004. These accounted for their first hit singles in the United States: "I Should Be Sleeping", "Fall into Me", and "Last One Standing". After DreamWorks closed, Emerson Drive signed with Midas Records Nashville for the 2006 album Countrified, which produced their only American number-one single in "Moments". Further releases in the United States were unsuccessful; however, the band continued to chart in Canada through releases on Open Road Recordings and Big Star Recordings over the next ten years.
Carrie Marie Underwood is an American singer and songwriter. She rose to prominence after winning the fourth season of American Idol in 2005, returning as a judge beginning with the twenty-third season. Underwood's single "Inside Your Heaven" (2005) made her the first country artist to debut atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart and the only solo country artist in the 2000s to have a number-one song on the Hot 100. Bolstered by further crossover singles "Jesus, Take the Wheel" and "Before He Cheats", her debut album, Some Hearts (2005), became the best-selling debut album of all time by a solo female country artist, was ranked by Billboard the top country album of the 2000s, and earned Underwood three Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist. She followed it with Carnival Ride (2007), which sold over half a million copies in its first week and won two Grammy Awards. Her third studio album, Play On (2009), yielded the chart-topping single "Cowboy Casanova", which had one of the biggest single-week upward movements on the Hot 100.

Kenneth Eric Church is an American country music singer-songwriter. He has released nine studio albums through Capitol Nashville since 2005. His debut album, 2006's Sinners Like Me, produced three singles on the Billboard country charts including the top 20 hits "How 'Bout You", "Two Pink Lines", and "Guys Like Me".
Zac Brown Band is an American country music band based in Atlanta, Georgia. The lineup consists of Zac Brown, Jimmy De Martini, John Driskell Hopkins, Coy Bowles, Chris Fryar (drums), Clay Cook, Matt Mangano, Daniel de los Reyes (percussion), and Caroline Jones.
Thompson Square is an American country music duo composed of husband and wife Keifer and Shawna Thompson, who alternate as vocalists. They signed to Stoney Creek Records, a sister label of Broken Bow Records, in 2010. The duo has released three albums, which have produced a combined ten chart singles on the Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts. Of these singles, two — "Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not" and "If I Didn't Have You" — reached No. 1.
Steel Magnolia was an American country music duo that won season two of the television talent show Can You Duet. The duo consisted of Meghan Linsey and her fiance, Joshua Scott Jones. After becoming the top winner on the show, the duo signed a recording contract with Big Machine Records, and released its debut single "Keep On Lovin' You" in August 2009, which was a Top 10 hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.
"The House That Built Me" is a song written by Tom Douglas and Allen Shamblin, and recorded by American country music artist Miranda Lambert. Blake Shelton was originally set to record the song, but when Lambert heard it, she emotionally reacted to the lyrics, and immediately wanted to record it for herself. It was released in March 2010 as the third single from her third studio album, Revolution. It is the fastest-rising single of her career, reaching the Top 20 in its eighth week. For the chart week of June 12, 2010, the song became Lambert's first number one hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, and held its place at the top for four consecutive weeks. It is also Lambert's first single of her career that she did not have a hand in writing. Additionally, it was her second single to receive a platinum certification from the RIAA on January 31, 2011.
Christopher Alvin Stapleton is an American country singer-songwriter and guitarist. Born in Kentucky, Stapleton moved to Nashville in 1996 to study for an engineering degree from Vanderbilt University, but dropped out to pursue a career in music. Shortly after, he signed a contract with Sea Gayle Music to write and publish his music.
Margaret Rose Durante is an American soul and country music singer. In 2009, Durante signed to Universal Republic and released a cover of Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody". A year later, she left Universal Republic and signed to independent Emrose Records, an imprint that used the services of James Stroud's Stroudavarious Records. She charted two singles for Emrose and released her digital EP, Maybe Tonight. Maggie also recorded two songs that were featured in episodes of the Disney Channel's Shake It Up and Good Luck Charlie television series, and were included on the Shake It Up: Break It Down soundtrack album that was released on July 12, 2011. Durante changed her recording name to Maggie Rose in 2012 after signing with Scott Siman's RPM Management. When Siman expanded RPM to include a mainstream country label, he launched the album with her as the flagship artist with the first single being "I Ain't Your Mama". In 2017, Rose signed to Starstruck Records, where she released her 2018 album Change the Whole Thing. In 2024, Rose released her fourth studio album, No One Gets Out Alive. The album was well received and was nominated for a GRAMMY award for Americana Album of the Year in the 2025 GRAMMY Awards.

Canaan Lee Smith is an American country music singer and songwriter signed with Round Here Records, an independent label started by Florida Georgia Line. He has released two albums, Bronco in 2015 and High Country Sound in 2021. His second single, "Love You Like That", was a Number One hit on the Billboard Country Airplay chart. He was also a reality television contestant on the 15th season of The Amazing Race.

Brandy Lynn Clark is an American country music singer-songwriter. Her songs have been recorded by Sheryl Crow, Miranda Lambert, The Band Perry, Reba McEntire, LeAnn Rimes, Billy Currington, Darius Rucker, and Kacey Musgraves. She debuted as an artist in her own right in 2013 with her album 12 Stories and has released four additional studio albums. Clark is a sixteen-time Grammy Award nominee, including the 2015 Best New Artist award, and won the Country Music Association Award for Song of the Year as a co-writer on "Follow Your Arrow". In 2023, Clark and frequent collaborator Shane McAnally wrote the music and lyrics for the musical Shucked, earning a nomination for the Tony Award for Best Original Score.
"Highway Don't Care" is a song recorded by American country music singers Tim McGraw and Taylor Swift on vocals, featuring Keith Urban on guitar. It was released to US country radio on March 25, 2013, as the third single from McGraw's first album for Big Machine Records, Two Lanes of Freedom (2013). The song was written by Mark Irwin, Josh Kear and Brad and Brett Warren. McGraw and Swift recorded their parts separately. This is Swift's seventh number one hit on Billboard's Country Airplay chart.
