Sheila Bridges (born 1963/1964 [1] ) is an American interior designer who founded her own firm, Sheila Bridges Design, Inc., in 1994. [2]

Early life and education

Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Bridges moved to New York City in 1986. She holds degrees from Brown University and Parsons School of Design, [1] [3] [4] and studied decorative arts at Polimoda in Florence, Italy. [5]

Career

Named "America's Best Interior Designer" by CNN and Time magazine, [6] Bridges has designed residences and offices for prominent entertainers, entrepreneurs, and business professionals, [2] [6] including the Harlem offices for former President Bill Clinton and his staff, [6] [7] and the official vice president's residence for Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff. [1] [6] [8] Her design firm has also completed projects for rooms at Columbia University and Princeton University.

Sheila Bridges Design, Inc has been included in Gotham and New York magazine's top interior designers lists and has been featured in House Beautiful magazine's listing of the Top 100 Interior Designers in the country since 1997.[ citation needed ]

Bridges is the author of Furnishing Forward: A Practical Guide to Furnishing for a Lifetime, released in 2002. [9] [10] Her memoir, The Bald Mermaid, was published in 2013 and chronicles her childhood, professional life, and her diagnosis of alopecia. [3] In 2022, the book was optioned by Southern Fried Filmworks for adaptation into a series. [11]

Bridges hosted four seasons of Sheila Bridges: Designer Living, a weekly series for the Fine Living Network. [12] [13] She has been a regular contributor on NBC's Today Show , has appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show , [14] and has been profiled in numerous national and international publications including The New York Times , The Wall Street Journal , O, The Oprah Magazine , Martha Stewart Living , Ebony , Country Living , Elle Décor , Interior Design, Vanity Fair , InStyle , Essence , House & Garden , Town & Country , Traditional Home and Black Enterprise .[ citation needed ]

In 2007, Bridges began designing furniture and home furnishings under the name Sheila Bridges Home, Inc. [10] Her home furnishing collections have been sold online, through catalogs and at national retailers Anthropologie and Bed, Bath & Beyond. Bridges' Harlem Toile De Jouy wallpaper [15] is currently available through design showrooms in The United States, Canada and Europe and is represented in the Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum's permanent wallpaper collection. Personal life

Bridges has homes in Harlem and near Hudson, New York, and in Reykjavík, Iceland. [6] [12] [17]

His clients include European and Middle Eastern royalty, Hollywood celebrities and corporate leaders.

James Huniford or Ford Huniford is an American designer. After founding his own design firm Huniford Design Studio, his ensuing work within the residential design built his reputation in New York with work appearing in Architectural Digest, W Magazine, Vogue, the New York Times, and Elle Decor. He was chosen by New York Spaces as a 'Top 50' designer of 2015 and was among Elle Decor's 2016 and 2011 'A-List's stating his work as "decorating at its most muscular and glamorous".

Formally part of Cornerstone Brands, a subsidiary of HSN Inc., the company is now one of the Qurate Retail portfolio brands, collectively owned by Qurate Retail Group. There are currently 17 retail stores: Three in Florida, Oak Brook, Illinois, King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, Natick, Massachusetts, Atlanta, Georgia, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, Denver, Colorado, Tysons Corner, Virginia, Garden City, New York, Charlotte, North Carolina, Nashville, Tennessee, and four in Texas. There are also three outlet stores: one near its corporate headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, one near its distribution center in West Chester, Ohio, and a third in Louisville, Kentucky. Yabu Pushelberg is an international design studio with offices in Toronto and New York. Founded in 1980 by Canadian designers George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg, the studio has evolved from a traditional interior design firm into creative directors of experience, practicing branding and positioning, interiors, products, lighting, textiles, and styling. 

Roman and Williams Building and Interiors is an American-owned, New York-based design studio known for its work on hotels, restaurants, retail spaces, homes and product design. Founded in 2002 by Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch, the firm encompasses Roman and Williams Guild New York (RW Guild) - a brick-and-mortar store of premium, artful home furnishings, accessories and housewares which include Roman and Williams' own product design collection as well as specially crafted pieces produced by artisans from around the world. The RW Guild stand-alone is also home to Roman and Williams' French restaurant, La Mercerie, helmed by Chef Marie-Aude Rose and Emily Thompson Flowers.

Callidus Guild is a firm based in Brooklyn, NY that manufactures hand-painted wallpaper and interior surfaces. Their name is derived from the Latin word Callidus, which means clever and dextrous. Callidus Guild is a “to-the-trade” manufacturer, and their work can be seen in Jean de Merry showrooms in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Dallas.

Richard Mishaan is an interior designer based in New York City. He has worked on designs for Sony Corporation of America, the Shelborne Hotel in South Beach, Miami, Florida, the Hotel Tcherassi in Cartagena, Colombia, and the presidential suite for the St. Regis Hotel in New York City. Mishaan has also designed furniture for Bolier and Company, lighting for Urban Electric Co., and accessories for Asia Tides.

Francis Sultana is a Maltese-born furniture and interior designer. He is regularly featured in the annual AD100 list compiled by Architectural Digest. The Times says he is "a furniture designer and decorating mastermind" and also mentions his famous clients. Financial TimesHow To Spend It magazine said "his baroque-meets-pop art style is making grand statements in an ever-widening circle of homes." Living Etc magazine describes Sultana's style as "luxurious, bespoke-driven and sumptuous". In 2018 Sultana was made Ambassador of Culture for Malta. He was named as one of the Top 20 interior designers by Wallpaper magazine and Top 100 Interior Designers by House & Garden magazine. The Financial Times said of his first hotel project La Palma Hotel, Capri for Oetker Collection that it is "a glamorous new start for Capri's oldest hotel ". In 2021 Sultana became custodian of The Hunting Lodge, the former home of British interior designers John Fowler and Nicky Haslam. ". As well as running his own atelier, Sultana is also CEO of David Gill Gallery ".

Achille Salvagni is an Italian designer and architect, specialising in luxury residences, furniture and yacht interiors.

Sabine Marcelis is a Dutch artist and designer. She has worked with brands and companies such as Céline, IKEA, Isabel Marant, Stella McCartney, and Renault. Her style typically includes pastel colours, minimalist shapes, and materials such as resin and glass, while her work focuses on themes of reflection and translucency. She has described her work as “an investigation of light, how it can create effects and atmospheres."

The World Around is a global design conference and media organisation that publishes video presentations and short documentary films under the slogan "Architecture's Now, Near, and Next" covering contemporary ideas and projects in architecture and design. The organisation is a 501c3 registered public charity in the United States, and seeks to "make the best new ideas in architecture accessible to all." The platform has a particular focus on climate change and social justice issues, and hosts the Young Climate Prize, a mentoring scheme for climate change-focused designers between the ages of 13 and 25.

Stephen Burks is an American designer and a professor of architecture at Columbia University. Burks is known for his collaborations with artisans as well as incorporating craft and weaving into product design. He is the first African American to win the National Design Award for product design.

Rossana Hu, also known as Hu Rushan, is an architect and interior designer who works in China and was born and raised in Taiwan. Hu is a partner in Neri & Hu, a design and research organization in Shanghai founded in 2004.
