Shekhar Tiwari

Shekhar Tiwari is an Indian politician from the Bahujan Samaj Party, currently in life imprisonment for murder. He was elected as chairman of the Dibiyapur municipal Panchayat in Auraiya district of Uttar Pradesh in 1997. He was elected to the UP Vidhan Sabha as a BSP candidate in May 2007. [1] Soon after, his wife Vibha was elected as chairman of the Dibiyapur panchayat. [2]

According to police reports, Tiwari was being investigated in 14 criminal cases relating to government contracts and extortion, but after he was elected as MLA, 10 cases were closed for want of evidence. [2]

He is a graduate from the University of Allahabad, and had earlier been a member of the Indian National Congress. He joined the BSP in 2007 during Mayawati's attempt to forge a tie with the Brahmin community. [2]

Manoj Gupta murder

On 24 December 2008, five days before the annual birthday bash for party leader Mayawati, Tiwari forcibly entered the house of Public Works Department engineer Manoj K Gupta in Dibiyapur. Along with a gang that included three policemen, Tiwari mercilessly beat up Gupta, fracturing his skull and possibly giving him electric shocks. [3] Tiwari then brought the fatally wounded Gupta to the police station, and Gupta died two hours later at the district hospital. [4]

Media reports repeatedly insisted that the lynching [3] had occurred because Gupta had refused to pay a large sum (possibly Rs 5 to 50 lakhs) towards Mayawati's birthday party. Tiwari and Mayawati initially denied all such claims, [5] but the then in-charge of the Dibiyapur police station, inspector Hoshiyar Singh, gave an interview on TV stating that the group had gone primarily to extract funds. . [6] BSP Auraiya district president Yogendra Dohre was also implicated in the murder.

Over the next year, there were reports of laxity in the investigations, [3] [7] but the opposition parties and media kept up the pressure. Eventually, the Supreme Court of India intervened owing to tardy progress in the case. [8] Eventually, Tiwari was sentenced to life imprisonment [9] along with several others.

Later on High court acquitted Hoshiar Singh.

Amarmani Tripathi is a politician from Eastern Uttar Pradesh. He was an MLA from Lakshmipur, Uttar Pradesh four times. He and his wife were released by UP Government in the Madhumita Shukla murder case in which he conspired to murder. He had earlier been a state Minister in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

Purushottam Naresh Dwivedi was an Indian politician, latterly in prison on rape charges. As a member of the Bahujan Samaj Party, he won the 2007 Uttar Pradesh state assembly elections from Naraini in southern Uttar Pradesh, and he was elected an MLA.

Ritesh Pandey is an Indian politician who has served as the Member of Parliament from Ambedkar Nagar constituency. He was a member of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) from the state of Uttar Pradesh. Pandey resigned from Bahujan Samaj Party and joined Bharatiya Janata Party in February 2024. He was also a MLA from Jalalpur constituency in Ambedkar Nagar district, which he represented between June 2017 and May 2019 before elected as MP in. He was appointed the Leader of the BSP in the Lok Sabha in January 2020. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Deputy Leader. According to his election filing he has 30 crores as his assets.

Kuldeep Singh Sengar is an Indian politician and former member of Legislative Assembly belonging to the Bhartiya Janta Party from Unnao district, Uttar Pradesh who has been convicted of rape, murder, attempt to murder, criminal conspiracy and criminal intimidation. He is the main defendant in the Unnao rape case and was booked under the POCSO Act. He is also accused of killing three people, including the victim's father in police custody and later her aunts by a conspired truck accident. A Delhi District and Sessions Court upheld an investigation conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) that had ruled out any foul play in the Unnao rape survivor's accident in 2019.

Akhil Bharatiya Loktantrik Congress was a regional political party in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It was founded in October 1997 by Naresh Agarwal along with Jagdambika Pal, Atul Kumar Singh, Bacha Pathak, Rajeev Shukla, Hari Shankar Tiwari, Suresh Chand Bhardwaj, Shripati Singh and Shyam Sunder Sharma. The party was formed when these leaders broke away from the Indian National Congress to join the All India Indira Congress (Tiwari), led by N. D. Tiwari which led another switched to form Loktantrik Congress.
