Shelley Joy Loe (born 7 December 1958) [1] is a South African politician who represented the Democratic Alliance (DA) in Parliament from 2004 to 2009. Before that,she represented the Democratic Party (DP) in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature from 1999 to 2004.
Loe was formerly a local politician for the DP in Gauteng. In May 1998,she became ward councillor for Brakpan in a by-election,in which she won a resounding 78 per cent of the vote against the National Party's Malcolm Laing. [2] In the 1999 general election,she left Brakpan to join the Gauteng Legislature,representing the DP. [1] The Mail &Guardian said that she continued to play a key role in organising her party's by-election campaigns in Gauteng. [3]
After a single term in the provincial legislature,she was elected to the National Council of Provinces in the 2004 general election. She was a member of the Northern Cape caucus and represented the DA,the DP's successor party. [4] A year into the legislative term,in July 2005,Loe resigned from the National Council of Provinces; [4] the following month,on 17 August 2005,she was sworn in to the National Assembly,where she filled a casual vacancy,again in the DA's Northern Cape caucus. Loe left Parliament after the 2009 general election and subsequently represented the DA as a proportional-representation councillor in Gauteng's Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality,where she led the DA's caucus. [6] She stood for election as DA deputy provincial chairperson in Gauteng in 2014. [6] [7] In 2019,she supported Mike Waters's unsuccessful campaign in the contest to succeed James Selfe as chair of the DA federal council. [8]
The Gauteng Provincial Legislature is the legislature of the South African province of Gauteng. It is a unicameral body of 73 members elected every five years. The current legislature,the sixth,was elected on 8 May 2019 and has an African National Congress majority of 37 members. The legislature is housed in Johannesburg City Hall in central Johannesburg.
Mpho Franklyn Parks Tau is a South African politician who has been a Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs since March 2023 and a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since February 2023,representing the African National Congress. Before becoming a member of Parliament,Tau had been a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature where he served in the Gauteng Executive Council as MEC for Economic Development from December 2020 to October 2022. Janet Audrey Semple is a retired South African politician who served as a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature for the Democratic Alliance (DA) from 2010 to 2019. She was the Provincial Leader of the DA in Gauteng from 2010 to 2012. She previously represented the DA and Democratic Party (DP) in the National Assembly from 1999 to 2009.
Joyce Leswana Kgoali was a South African politician. A member of the African National Congress,she served as the Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces from May 2004 until her death in November 2004. She was a Member of the Executive Council in the Gauteng provincial government from 1998 to 1999 and the chairperson of the ANC's parliamentary caucus between 2002 and 2004.
Michéle Odette Clarke is a South African politician. A member of the Democratic Alliance,Clarke served as a councillor in the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality from 2004 until her election to the Gauteng Provincial Legislature as a DA representative in 2014. After serving one term in the provincial legislature,Clarke was elected to the National Assembly of South Africa in 2019. She currently serves as Shadow Minister of Health after previously serving as Shadow Deputy Minister of Public Service and Administration and as Shadow Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises.
Jack Bloom is a South African politician who has been a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature since 1994,representing the Democratic Party from 1994 until 2003 and the Democratic Alliance from 2003 onwards. Bloom is the DA's shadow MEC for health. Bloom was the DA caucus leader and the Leader of the Opposition in the provincial legislature from December 2007 to April 2009 and again from March 2011 until May 2014.

Dikeledi Rebecca Tsotetsi is a South African politician from Gauteng. She represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly from 2009 to 2019 and was the Mayor of Emfuleni Local Municipality from 2006 to 2008.
Paul Stefanus Swart is a South African politician who represented the Democratic Party (DP) and Democratic Alliance (DA) in the National Assembly from 1999 to 2009. He represented the North West constituency and is also a former leader of the DP's North West branch.
