Shepherd Mall is a former shopping mall located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma that opened in 1964 [6] as the first fully-enclosed indoor shopping mall in Oklahoma City; [7] however, by 2003 all of the anchors had closed and the mall was well underway in transitioning to being primarily an office complex. [8]
The area where Shepherd Mall would later be built was part of a 160 acre homestead claimed by George Shepherd during the land run of 1889. While much of the original homestead was later developed into a housing addition in the early 1930s (which today is known as the Shepherd Historic District), members of the Shepherd family continued to live in the old house (which was surrounded by the mall parking lot after the fall was constructed) until 1970. (The old Shepherd family home was later moved to the Harn Homestead historic site near the state capitol in the 1987.) [9] [10]
Shepherd Mall had its grand opening on Nov. 5, 1964 [11] and received local media attention for "creating its own weather" (this was Oklahoma City's first indoor shopping mall). [12] It was built by Harmon Construction Company [13] over one and half years. [14]
During its heyday, Shepherd Mall was home to both anchor stores like Oklahoma-based chains TG&Y and Kerr's (later occupied by Dillard Brown Dunkin, related to John A. Brown, as well as national chains like McCrory's, Dillards and J.C. Penney [15] but also by smaller stores, restaurants (including the famed El Charrito restaurant [16] )and service businesses including at times a travel agency, [17] a bank, [18] and a credit union. [19] The mall also had a two screen movie theater for a time.[ citation needed ]
In 2017, the complex's name was changed to "Shepherd Center" to reflect the building's current use, [20] and today houses a variety of government and corporate tenants. [21]
Metrocenter Mall is a defunct shopping mall in South Jackson, Mississippi, United States. The largest enclosed shopping mall in Mississippi, it contained 1,250,000 square feet of retail space on two levels, including four anchor spaces. Regional real estate developer Jim Wilson & Associates built the mall in Mississippi's capital city in 1978, as one of its portfolio of properties throughout the southeastern United States. The mall is located near the junction of Interstate 20 and Interstate 220/U.S. Highway 49, along South Jackson's U.S. Highway 80 corridor. After years of ownership by Cannon Management and Jackson Metrocenter Limited, a decade-long decline at the mall led to a foreclosure in November 2012, and subsequent sale to Metrocenter Mall, LLC. Though the mall itself is closed, some portions of the mall are used as City of Jackson offices, including the former Belk anchor store. There are 2 other vacant anchor stores that were once Sears and Dillard's.

Park Plaza Mall is an enclosed shopping mall located in the Midtown neighborhood of Little Rock, Arkansas. Originally opened in 1960 as Park Plaza Shopping Center, an open-air shopping center, the mall is home to two Dillard's flagship stores and merchants including H&M, Talbots, and Eddie Bauer. The structure contains 545,800 square feet (50,710 m2) of retail space, although Dillard's owns 284,165 square feet (26,399.8 m2) of that area for its flagship stores.

John A. Brown was an Oklahoma department store chain. It operated under that name from 1932, when its founder bought out its predecessor and renamed the chain for himself. After Mr. Brown died in 1940, his widow took over management until her own death in 1967, forcing a change in ownership. Dayton-Hudson, another retail company, continued operating the chain under the Brown name, until 1984, when Dayton-Hudson sold the Brown chain to Dillard's, another national chain, which combined all of the Brown stores under its own name. The flagship store on West Main Street was closed in 1974 and was subsequently razed as part of an urban renewal project. The project was supposed to result in a new shopping center known as the Galleria. However, the project was never completed, so the Brown chain never returned to downtown.
South County Center is a shopping mall located in Mehlville, Missouri, at the intersection between Interstate 55, Interstate 255, and U.S. Route 50. It opened on October 17, 1963 and was designed by Victor Gruen. it included a dome-roofed Famous-Barr, which became Macy's in 2006, a National Supermarket occupying the basement floor, which closed in 1973, and later JCPenney as anchors. Stix, Baer & Fuller,, was added in 1973 along with a new wing of stores. A Sears, a food court, and additional mall stores were added in 2001. In 2004, Several stores and restaurants were added that could be accessed from outside the mall including Qdoba, Applebee's, Noodle's and Company, and Border's. The anchor stores are Macy's, Dillard's, and JCPenney.

The mall's signature feature is its LED video billboard screen, measuring 60 feet high and 306 feet wide. It was the world's largest LED screen when it became operational in 2012. The mall achieved a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Silver certification in 2013.
