Sherwin James

Sherwin Eric James [1] (born 6 June 1978 in Saint Patrick Parish, Dominica) is a retired track and field Olympic athlete who represented Dominica.

He competed at the 2000 Summer Olympics in the men's 200 metres where he finished eighth in his heat so failing to advance, [2] he also competed at the 1999 World Championships in Athletics and 2001 World Championships in Athletics. [3]

The Cook Islands sent a delegation to compete at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain from 25 July to 9 August 1992. This was the island nation's second appearance at a Summer Olympics, following the 1988 Summer Olympics. The delegation to Barcelona consisted of two competitors, track and field athlete Mark Sherwin and weightlifter Sam Nunuke Pera. Sherwin failed to advance out of his heat in the men's 100 meters, while Pera did not complete a lift in the men's 100 kilograms category.

Andrew James Vernon is a British long-distance runner who specialised in the 5000 metres, the 10,000 metres on track and cross country running. After the 2018 commonwealth games and started to concentrate on the roads winning Manchester Half Marathon with the aim of doing a full marathon in 2019. Vernon competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the men's 10,000 metres. He has also competed in two Commonwealth Games, a World Indoor Championship and six World Cross Country Championships. Vernon is a two-time European Athletics Championship medallist and a Summer Universiade gold medallist. He currently competes for Aldershot, Farnham & District AC.

Dominica participated in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London from 27 July to 12 August 2012. The country's participation in London marked its fifth appearance in the Summer Olympics since its debut in the 1996 Summer Olympics. The delegation included two athletes: Erison Hurtault and Luan Gabriel, the former qualified for the Games by meeting qualification standards while the latter entered the quadrennial event through a wildcard place. Hurtault was selected as the flag bearer for the opening ceremony while Gabriel carried the flag at the closing ceremony. Neither athlete progressed farther than the first round of their respective events.

Yordanys Durañona García is a Cuban-born triple jumper, who competed internationally for Dominica. Switching allegiance from his native Cuba in 2011, he represented Dominica in a multitude of international tournaments, including the 2014 Commonwealth Games, 2015 Pan American Games, and 2016 Summer Olympics. Durañona also achieved his outdoor best jump of 17.20 m (-1.0 m/s) at the 2014 Pan American Sports Festival in Mexico City.
