Shevi Waterfall is the largest natural waterfall in the Middle East. The geographical location of the waterfall is E484936 N324745, Zagros Mountains [1] in a village called Shevi at Shahion district in Dezful City , Khuzestan Province. [2] [3]

The waterfall was registered on January 19, 2015 as one of the national monuments of Iran and the first national natural monument of Khuzestan Province.

Shevi Waterfall, which is located near Salon Mountains and is 65 km from the center of Shahion district and 110 km from Dezful City. [4]

Description of the waterfall

Coming out of a cave, the Shevi Waterfall flows down from a high gorge. [5] [6] [7] The height of the waterfall is 85 meters, and its width is 70 meters. [8] After crossing mountains and valleys, its water flows into the Dez River and finally into the Dez Dam Lake in Khuzestan Province. [9] The vegetation around this waterfall is composed of trees such as willow, fig, vine, ash (European ash), maple, and oak.

Under the waterfall and on its walls, there are blackthorns and other hydrophilic plants. Near this waterfall, there is another large waterfall, which is sometimes called the second Shevi Waterfall.

The Dez Dam, formerly known as Mohammad-Reza Shah Pahlavi Dam, before 1979 Revolution, is an arch dam on the Dez River in the southwestern province of Khuzestan, Iran. It is about 23 km of Andimeshk city. It was built between 1959 and 1963 under the rule of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the last Shah of Iran, with contacting an Italian consortium and is owned by the Khuzestan Water & Power Authority. The dam is 203 metres (666 ft) high, making it one of the highest in the country, and has a reservoir capacity of 3,340,000,000 m3 (2,710,000 acre⋅ft). At the time of construction the Dez Dam was Iran's biggest development project. The primary purpose of the dam is hydroelectric power production and irrigation. It has an associated 520 MW power station and its reservoir helps irrigate up to 80,500 ha of farmland. US$42 million of the cost to construct the dam came from the World Bank.
