Shirley Owens-Hicks is an American Democratic politician from Boston,Massachusetts. [2] She represented the 6th Suffolk district in the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1987 to 2006,first winning her seat by primarying incumbent Royal Bolling Jr. [2] [3] Prior to that she served as a member of the Boston School Committee from 1984 to 1988. [4] Her brother,Bill Owens,served in the Massachusetts Senate. [5]
Anna Louise Day Hicks was an American politician and lawyer from Boston,Massachusetts,best known for her staunch opposition to desegregation in Boston public schools,and especially to court-ordered busing,in the 1960s and 1970s. A longtime member of Boston's school board and city council,she served one term in the United States House of Representatives,succeeding John William McCormack.
John Joseph Moakley was an American politician who served as the United States representative for Massachusetts's 9th congressional district from 1973 until his death in 2001.
