Shivani Verma (born May 31, 1972), better known as Brahma Kumari Shivani, Sister Shivani, or BK Shivani, [1] is a teacher in the Brahma Kumaris spiritual movement in India. [2]

Biography

Verma was born in Pune. Her parents began following the Brahma Kumaris when she was a child. She began to attend meetings in her early 20s. [1]

She completed her undergraduate and postgraduate in electronics engineering at the Savitribai Phule Pune University where she was an academic gold medalist, then completed a master's degree in computer engineering from the Maharashtra Institute of Technology. Initially, she worked backstage at the production of Brahma Kumaris television presentations in Delhi, where senior teachers would record the teachings. Then in 2007, due to the unavailability of other teachers, she was asked to start answering the viewers' queries herself. [3] In 2007, a pay-to-broadcast television series Awakening with Brahma Kumaris was produced for the Aastha channel, in which BK Shivani was interviewed by co-host Kanu Priya. [2] [1]

Her TV series of conversations with Suresh Oberoi was adapted into the 2015 book Happiness Unlimited: Awakening With Brahma Kumaris. [4]

BK Shivani travels in India and abroad, appearing at charitable events ranging from the promotion of organ donation [5] to parenting programs, [6] as well as Brahma Kumaris events. In 2017 she was named as a goodwill ambassador of the World Psychiatric Association. [7]

She has the YouTube channel called BKShivani. [8]

Awards and recognitions

She received the Women of the Decade Achievers Award by ASSOCHAM Ladies League in 2014 [9] and the Nari Shakti Award in 2019. [10]

Nari Shakti Puraskar Highest civilian honour for women in India

Nari Shakti Puraskar is an annual award given by the Ministry of Women and Child Development of the Government of India to individual women or to institutions that work towards the cause of women empowerment. The awards are presented by the President of India on International Women's Day, at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. The awards were instituted in 1999 under the title of Stree Shakti Puraskar and were renamed and reorganised in 2015. There are given in six institutional and two individual categories, which carry a cash prize of rupees two-lakh and one-lakh, respectively.

Ishqbaaaz (transl.Lovers) is an Indian romantic drama television series that aired from 27 June 2016 to 15 March 2019 on Star Plus. It initially starred Nakuul Mehta, Surbhi Chandna, Kunal Jaisingh, Shrenu Parikh, Leenesh Mattoo and Mansi Srivastava. Pamela chatterrjee is a writer and rural activist in India. Her project reclaimed 625,000 hectares of land. She has been recognised with the Nari Shakti Puraskar award. It is the highest award for women in India.

Subha Varier Indian space engineer

Subha Varier is an Indian space engineer. She has specialised in the video systems used on Indian satellite launches. In 2017 she received the Nari Shakti Puraskar, India's highest award for women after the record release of 104 satellites in one launch.

Over several years she sold pickles at the roadside and gradually turned her venture into four different entities with a turnover of 40 million INR. She was awarded the Nari Shakti Puraskar in 2016.

Kanupriya Indian actress

Kanupriya was an Indian anchor, actress, voice-over artist, script-writer, theatre artist, and media personality. She had hosted Brahma Kumaris program. She then worked in the field of acting, script writing and theatre for three decades. She then joined the most watched show 'Awakening with Brahma Kumaris' as an anchor. Kanupriya was so loved by the people that when she left the show and joined the 'Karmabhoomi' show, the audience of 'Awakening with Brahma Kumaris' was also affected.
