Shrone Austin (born January 31, 1989) is a Seychellois swimmer, who specialized in freestyle and breaststroke events. [1] She first competed in the women's 100 m breaststroke at the 2004 Summer Olympics, before turning her sights on the long-distance freestyle at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Apart from her Olympic career, Austin had collected a career total of six medals (three silvers and three bronzes) in two editions of the All-Africa Games (2003 and 2011). [2]

Austin made her own swimming history, as Seychelles' youngest ever athlete (aged 15), at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, where she competed in the 100 m breaststroke. Swimming in heat one, she raced to third and forty-third overall in her lifetime best of 1:19.02, almost a full-second margin behind Armenia's Varduhi Avetisyan (0.15) and three-time Olympian and leader Katerine Moreno (0.67). At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Austin decided to drop her breaststroke specialty, and instead challenge herself with a long-distance freestyle. Swimming against Hungary's Boglárka Kapás, and Thailand's Natthanan Junkrajang (who later forced to pull out from the prelims) in heat one of the 400 m freestyle, Austin came up with a steady swim throughout the race, but could not catch her Hungarian rival near the wall to finish only in second and forty-first at 4:35.86. Austin also competed in three events at the 2006 Commonwealth Games held in Melbourne, Australia, she competed in the freestyle events for the 200 metres, [6] the 400 metres [7] and the 800 metres [8] but didn't reach the final in any of the three events.

Achievements

Austin won the Seychelles Sportswoman of the year in 2003 when she was just 14 years old. [9]

Lin Man-hsu is a Taiwanese swimmer, who specialized in backstroke and individual medley events. She represented the Chinese Taipei national team in two editions of the Olympic Games.

Ragnheiður Ragnarsdóttir, also known as Ragga Ragnars is an Icelandic actress and former swimmer, who specialised in sprint freestyle events. After retiring from swimming, Ragnheiður studied acting and has played the role of Gunnhild on the TV series Vikings since 2018.

Diana Duarte Gomes is a Portuguese swimmer, who specialized in breaststroke events. She is a two-time Olympian and a multiple-time Portuguese record holder for the long and short course breaststroke events. She also won three medals in the same category at the 2005 European Junior Swimming Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Roshendra Julienne Mercedes Vrolijk is an Aruban former swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle events. She is one of Aruba's first Olympic swimmers, alongside Davy Bisslik, and also a two-time Olympian.

Vesna Stojanovska is a Macedonian former swimmer, who specialized in freestyle and butterfly events. She is a two-time Olympian, and holds multiple age-group records in 200 and 400 m freestyle, and in 50, 100, and 200 m butterfly. Regarded as one of Macedonia's top swimmers, Stojanovska has earned All-American honors and numerous Atlantic Coast Conference titles in her own discipline while studying in the United States.

Pilin Tachakittiranan is a Thai former swimmer, who specialized in freestyle and butterfly events. She is a two-time Olympian and a multiple-time age-group record holder in all freestyle distances. Regarded as Thailand's top female swimmer, she has won a total of five gold medals at the Southeast Asian Games.

Ha Eun-ju is a South Korean swimmer, who specialized in freestyle events. She won a bronze medal, as a member of the South Korean team, in the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay (8:19.62), when her nation hosted the 2002 Asian Games in Busan.

Rebecca Jane Linton is a New Zealand former swimmer, who specialised in long-distance freestyle events. She held New Zealand records in the 400 and 800 m freestyle, until they were all broken by Lauren Boyle in 2012. Linton is also a member of Howick Pakuranga Swim Club in Auckland.

Ivanka Moralieva is a Bulgarian former swimmer, who specialized in long-distance freestyle events and open water marathon. Since 2001, she holds a Bulgarian record in the 1500 m freestyle from the World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan (16:55.53). She also won a bronze medal in the 25 km, as an open water swimmer, at the 2004 European Aquatics Championships in Madrid, Spain (4:41:21.2).

Mei Yen “Christel” Bouvron is a Singaporean former swimmer, who specialised in freestyle and butterfly events. She is a two-time Olympian, a double finalist at the Asian Games (2002), and a gold medalist in the 200 m butterfly at the Southeast Asian Games (2003). Bouvron also became the first swimmer to qualify for the Olympics since 1920, while training for the Fighting Irish, and majoring in anthropology and classics at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana.

Imaday Núñez González is a Cuban former swimmer, who specialized in breaststroke events. She won a total of three medals in the breaststroke and medley relay at the 1998 Central American and Caribbean Games in Maracaibo, Venezuela.

Annabelle Jane Carey was a New Zealand swimmer, who specialized in breaststroke events. As of 2006, she currently holds a New Zealand record of 1:09.26 in the 100 m breaststroke from the World Championship Trials in Auckland. In the same year she helped out the New Zealand team to pull off a fourth-place effort in the medley relay at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia, with a record-breaking time of 4:06.30.

Ratapong "Nuk" Sirisanont is a Thai former swimmer, who specialized in breaststroke, but also competed in long-distance freestyle and individual medley. He is a four-time Olympian, a three-time Asian Games participant, and a seven-time SEA Games athlete (1991–2003). Regarded as Thailand's top swimmer, he has won a total of sixteen medals at the Southeast Asian Games since 1995, and six at the Asian Games, including two golds in the 200 and 400 m individual medley. At the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Sirisanont became the first Thai swimmer to reach the final twice. Sirisanont is also one of three Southeast Asian swimmers, along with Malaysia's Alex Lim and Philippines' Miguel Molina, to train for the California Golden Bears in the United States, under head coach Nort Thornton.

Arsenio Alexander López Rosario, also known as Alex Lopez, is a Puerto Rican former swimmer and three-time Olympian who specialized in breaststroke and individual medley events.

Aikaterini "Katia" Sarakatsani is a Greek swimmer, who specialized in breaststroke and individual medley events. She is a three-time Olympian, a former Greek record holder in the breaststroke, and a member of the swimming team for Hawaiʻi Rainbow Wahine at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, under head coach Vojko Race.

Nicole Zahnd is a retired Swiss swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle events. She was born in Bern. She is a two-time Olympian, and a top 8 finalist in the 200 m freestyle at the 2001 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Antwerp, Belgium. Zahnd played for two swimming clubs in Geneva, before she trained under head coach Dirk Reinecke as part of the Swiss national team. Zahnd is also the wife of former medley swimmer and two-time Olympian Yves Platel.

Roh Joo-hee is a South Korean former swimmer, who specialized in middle-distance freestyle and breaststroke events. As a teenager, she represented South Korea in two editions of the Olympic Games, and also held numerous career bests and national records in both 200 and 400 m freestyle.
