ShruthiUK is a Solihull-based non-profit South Asian arts and culture organisation. [1]
It was established in 2005 by Dr. Chithra Ramakrishnan in Leeds. [2] It is primarily operational in West Midlands. [3]
According to its website, it works with children and young adults to develop exposure to and recognition of the Indian Culture through music and dance. It also provides comprehensive training in South Indian Classical Dance and Music to members of the surrounding community. [4] [5] [6]
In June 2015, ShruthiUK launched a first of its kind Carnatic Choir group [1] with the aim of creating and exploring choral singing in the South Indian classical music genre.
ShruthiUK also organizes the annual Birmingham Thyagaraja Festival, a Carnatic music festival in Solihull. [7] The festival brings together aspiring singers, musicians and dancers performing the songs, rhythms and teachings of Saint Thyagaraja, a prominent Indian composer of Carnatic classical music. [8]
Owing to India's vastness and diversity, Indian music encompasses numerous genres in multiple varieties and forms which include classical music, folk, rock, and pop. It has a history spanning several millennia and developed over several geo-locations spanning the sub-continent. Music in India began as an integral part of socio-religious life.
Thyagaraja, also known as Thyāgayya and in full as Kakarla Thyagabrahmam, was a composer and vocalist of Carnatic music, a form of Indian classical music. Tyagaraja and his contemporaries, Shyama Shastri and Muthuswami Dikshitar, are regarded as the Trinity of Carnatic music. Tyagaraja composed thousands of devotional compositions, most in Telugu and in praise of Rama, many of which remain popular today, the most popular being "Nagumomu". Of special mention are five of his compositions called the Pancharatna Kritis, which are often sung in programs in his honour, and Utsava Sampradaya Krithis, which are often sung to accompany temple rituals.
Thyagaraja Aradhana is an annual aradhana of Telugu saint composer Tyagaraja. The music festival is observed in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, primarily in Tiruvaiyaru in Thanjavur district of Tamilnadu, the place where Tyagaraja attained Jeeva Samadhi. The aradhana is observed on Pushya Bahula Panchami day when the saint attained Jeeva samadhi, where the musicians render the saint's Pancharatna Kritis.

Melharmony is an avant-garde form of music composing that explores new harmonies and voice leading anchored on melodic progression. In other words, melharmony aims to create chords and counterpoints based on the melodic rules of evolved systems across the world. Melharmony thus blends the two primary, yet diverse concepts in world music - melody and harmony. It was originally proposed and developed by musician-composer N. Ravikiran. British-American composer Robert Morris further developed it from the standpoint of Western theory. Melharmony is a style of music that takes into consideration the rules and aesthetics of melody-centric systems like Indian classical as well as harmony-anchored systems like Western classical and jazz but is not limited to only those.

The Cleveland Thyagaraja Festival is a 12-day festival of South Indian classical music and dance in Cleveland, Ohio, and is held each year around Easter weekend. The festival began in 1978, and has since grown to become the largest South Indian classical music and dance festival outside of India.
