Shubham Singh (born 9 September 1997) is an Indian industrialist involved in ethanol production. He is the founder, Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Oorja Distilleries Private Limited, whose plant is Bihar's first grain-based ethanol facility. The company contributes to regional ethanol production growth aligned with Bihar’s Ethanol Production Promotion Policy of 2021. [1] [2] [3]
Singh was born in September 1997 in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, to Dinesh Prasad Singh and Veena Devi, both active in Bihar politics. [4] [5] He attended Welham Boys' School and DPS R.K. Puram and completed higher education at the University of Delhi and University of Warwick. [6]
In 2021, Singh founded Bharat Oorja Distilleries Private Limited. The company launched Bihar’s first grain-based ethanol plant in Motipur, Muzaffarpur, in 2023.. [7] [8] The plant produces over 150 million liters of ethanol annually, supplying oil marketing companies to support regional blending goals. [2] . [9]
The company secured significant financing, including a ₹150 crore credit facility from the State Bank of India in 2022 to expand operations and generate over 1,200 jobs.. [10] [1] In September 2022, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar visited the under-construction ethanol plant of Bharat Oorja Distilleries Private Limited in Motipur, Muzaffarpur. Singh participated in discussions regarding infrastructure improvements, including road widening and protection against water seepage from a nearby canal. [11]
In March 2025, CRISIL upgraded the company’s rating to 'CRISIL BBB-/Stable,' considered investible grade, citing financial improvements and operational revenues of approximately ₹265 crore reported over 11 months till February 2025. [12]
The output from BODPL displaces imports of fossil fuels, saving the country approximately ₹50 crore annually in foreign exchange. The plant also contributes to a reduction of roughly 250,000 tons of CO₂ emissions each year, which is equivalent to removing about 55,000 vehicles from the road. [13]
National and regional media acknowledge Singh’s participation in ethanol production and industrial development in Bihar. [1] [2] [4]
In 2025, multiple sources ranked Singh among Bihar's wealthiest individuals based on estimated net worth exceeding ₹500 crore. [4] [14]
Singh’s parents are involved in Bihar politics, with his father serving as a Member of the Legislative Council and his mother as a Member of Parliament. [4] [15] He maintains a private personal life focused primarily on his industrial ventures.
