Shwe FM is a privately owned radio station that serves Myanmar, reaching 98% of the country, including the Yangon metropolitan region, Bago and Tanintharyi Regions, and Mon and Kayin States. [1] [2] Its offices are located in Yangon's Botataung Township. [3] The radio station was launched in 2009 as part of the Ministry of Information's efforts to privatize radio broadcasting, and broadcasts Burmese music, comedy and entertainment programs. [1] In 2014, it began broadcasting a BBC Burmese program, English at Work. [2] The radio station is owned by Shwe Thanlwin. [4]

The Saffron Revolution was a series of economic and political protests and demonstrations that took place during August, September, and October 2007 in Myanmar. The protests were triggered by the decision of the national military government to remove subsidies on the sales prices of fuel. The national government is the only supplier of fuels and the removal of the price subsidy immediately caused diesel and petrol prices to increase by 66–100% and the price of compressed natural gas for buses to increase 500% in less than a week.

Myanmar Radio and Television, formerly the Burma Broadcasting Service (BBS), is the parent of the state-run Myanmar Radio National Service and the MRTV television channel. The television channels are broadcasting from its broadcast center in Kamayut, Yangon while the radio service is now broadcasting primarily from Naypyidaw. MRTV's television signals reaches 92.7% of the Myanmar population, while its radio coverage reaches 100% of the country.

The print, broadcast and online mass media in Burma has undergone strict censorship and regulation since the 1962 Burmese coup d'état. The constitution provides for freedom of speech and the press; however, the government prohibits the exercise of these rights in practice. Reporters Without Borders ranked Burma 174th out of 178 in its 2010 Press Freedom Index, ahead of just Iran, Turkmenistan, North Korea, and Eritrea. In 2015, Burma moved up to 144th place, ahead of many of its ASEAN neighbours such as Singapore, as a result of political changes in the country.

Myanmar Radio National Service (Burmese: မြန်မာ့အသံ; formerly, Burma Broadcasting Service (BBS)), is the national radio service of Myanmar. It has its broadcasting headquarters in both the administrative capital of Naypyidaw and Yangon, Myanmar's largest city. The service runs Myanmar Radio and Myanmar Radio Minorities Service. Like all legally operating radio stations in Myanmar, such as Yangon City FM and Mandalay City FM, Myanmar Radio is under state management.

Yangon City FM is a radio station that serves the Yangon metropolitan area, broadcasting on the FM band at a frequency of 89.0 MHz and on the Internet. Operated by the city government, Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC), City FM is one of two radio stations available in Yangon. Yangon's sole FM station employs a pop culture-oriented format with a focus on Burmese and English pop music, entertainment programs, live celebrity interviews, etc. The station is highly popular, especially among the youth, as it provides an alternative to the dreary propaganda-laden programming of Myanmar Radio National Service.

Mandalay FM is a radio station that serves the Mandalay metropolitan area, broadcasting on the FM band at a frequency of 87.9 MHz and on the Internet. Now the radio station is also serving 30 miles (48 km) around Taungoo and 60 miles (97 km) around Yangon.

Project K is a seven-member boy band in Myanmar that formed in 2016. The septet — composed of Bhone Nay Lin Kai(Micky), Bhone Nay Min Khant (Morris), Chan Myae Oo, Hein Yar, Min Khant Hein, William Tun, and Ye Yint Thaw — is known for their dancing and singing abilities, and fashion. Until the debut of ALFA in 2019, Project K was Myanmar's only K-pop style boy band. The K in "Project K" stands for "king," "Korea," and "K-pop." The group is known for incorporating traditional Burmese dance styles to their dance performances, and has amassed as significant social media following as a result.

Nann Thuzar is a Burmese singer-songwriter, composer and model who has achieved fame and success as a model and singer. Nann Thuzar rose to fame with her album "Friends" which was a duo album with Nan Myat Phyo Thin. In 2017, she started walking the runway at the Myanmar International Fashion Week every year.

Gita Lulin Maung Ko Ko was a Burmese musician and composer. He is best known for his outstanding musical performances and won the Best Music Academy Awards for 1991, 1994 and 2002.

Forever Group is a Burmese private media broadcasting company, with headquarters in Yangon, Myanmar. Forever Group is known for its close ties to the Burmese military.
