Sidney Ribeau is an American academic administrator who served as the president of Howard University in Washington,D.C. Prior to accepting the position at Howard,Ribeau was the president of Bowling Green State University for 13 years. [1]
Ribeau was born on December 3,1947,in Detroit,and is a graduate of Mackenzie High School. Ribeau received his bachelor's degree from Wayne State University in 1971. He earned master's and doctoral degrees in interpersonal communication from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign,in 1973 and 1979,respectively. [2] [3]
Ribeau served on Ohio's Higher Education Funding Commission. He is a member of the board of directors for the National Collegiate Athletic Association and was chair of the Inter-University Council of Presidents in 2005–06. A past member of the Bowling Green and Toledo Chambers of Commerce,he also served on the boards of United Way,the Greater Toledo Urban League,the Toledo Symphony Orchestra,the Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association-College Retirement Equities Fund (TIAA-CREF),the Regional Growth Partnership,the Andersons Inc.,Convergys Corp.,and Worthington Industries.
In 1976,Ribeau began his teaching career at California State University,Los Angeles as a professor of communication studies. He was honored there as an outstanding teacher and student adviser,and in 1984,became chair of the university's Pan African Studies Department,a position he held for three years. He was then named dean of undergraduate studies at California State University,San Bernardino. From 1990 to 1992,Ribeau was dean of the College of Liberal Arts at California Polytechnic State University,San Luis Obispo,and was then appointed vice president for academic affairs at California State Polytechnic University,Pomona,a position he held until going to Bowling Green in 1995. Ribeau accepted the presidency of Bowling Green State University in 1995,becoming the college's ninth president. During his presidency,Bowling Green created a number of new programs,including the Scholarship of Engagement Initiative,which encouraged collaborative faculty involvement with private and public groups to identify and resolve relevant issues through scholarship. The President's Leadership Academy,begun in 1997,and BGeXperience:Vision and Values,started in 2003,were two others.
In 2003,Ribeau was recognized by the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators,which presented him with its President's Award for his "courage and leadership in guiding the Bowling Green State University campus community to develop a community focused on student learning and designed to educate the whole student by taking students' personal and intellectual growth into consideration."
Contributions to the BGSU grew steadily during Ribeau's tenure. Over $126 million was donated to Building Dreams:The Centennial Campaign for Bowling Green State University.
Ribeau was named the 16th president of Howard University in May 2008. He began his tenure in August 2008,succeeding H. Patrick Swygert.
On October 1,2013,President Ribeau announced his retirement from the office of President at Howard University,effective the end of December 2013. [6] But as details of the rocky relationship between him and the school's Board of Trustees emerge,it appears that Ribeau was forced out of the job after just five years on the post. [7]

The Slater Family Ice Arena is a 5,000-seat hockey arena on the campus of Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green,Ohio. It is home to the university's men's ice hockey team,the Bowling Green Falcons,which plays in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. It was built from 1965 to 1967 for a cost of $1.8 million and opened in February 1967. The arena originally had seating for 2,863 until 1989 when it was expanded to its current size of 5,000. Formerly known as the BGSU Ice Arena,it was renamed in 2016.
Carol A. Cartwright is an American academic administrator and former president of Bowling Green State University. She became interim president in July 2008,president on January 6,2009,and retired in June,2011. During her time as President,the University continued a trend of declining enrollment caused by the Great Recession and saw one of the smallest Fall Freshman class in its history.
Anderson Arena is an indoor arena located in Memorial Hall on the campus of Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green,Ohio and is currently home to the Bowling Green Falcons women's gymnastics team. The arena,which opened in 1960,served as the home arena for the Bowling Green men's and women's basketball teams and women's volleyball team until 2011. Following their season finales in 2010 and 2011,the teams moved into the newly built Stroh Center on the east side of campus. It originally had a seating capacity of 4,700 people for basketball games. For gymnastics meets,the capacity is 2,800.
The Bowling Green Falcons are the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent Bowling Green State University (BGSU),in Bowling Green,Ohio,United States. The Falcons compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division I level as a member of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) East Division. The men's ice hockey team competes in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA);and men's soccer competes in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC),following the MAC shutting down its men's soccer league at the end of the 2022 season. Bowling Green sponsors teams in seven men's and 11 women's NCAA-sanctioned sports and the football team competes in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS),the highest level for college football. BGSU is one of only 15 universities in the United States that plays Division I FBS football and Division I men's ice hockey.
The Bowling Green Falcons football program is the intercollegiate football team of Bowling Green State University. Gregg Brandon is a former American football coach and player. He was most recently the head football coach at the Colorado School of Mines,a position he had held from 2015 until his retirement after the 2021 season. Prior to that,he was the offensive coordinator at New Mexico State University and coached tight ends in the United Football League (UFL) for the Las Vegas Locomotives. He also spent two years as the offensive coordinator at the University of Wyoming and was offensive coordinator for the Virginia Cavaliers for the duration of the 2009 season. He was head coach for the Bowling Green Falcons,but was fired following the conclusion of the 2008 season,after six years at the helm,which included three bowl appearances and shares of two division titles. Brandon had previously been an assistant coach and offensive coordinator at Bowling Green under head coach Urban Meyer before Meyer left for the University of Utah in 2003.
The Toledo Rockets football team is a college football program in Division I FBS,representing the University of Toledo. The Rockets compete in the Mid-American Conference. Toledo began playing football in 1917,although it did not field teams in 1931,and 1943–1945. Since the inception of the AP Poll in 1936 Toledo has finished in the Top 25 four times. Its highest finish came in 1970 when it ranked No. 12 after finishing 12–0–0. The University of Toledo has a 11–9 record in bowl games. The Rockets were the 2017 MAC champions. The team's head coach is Jason Candle.
The Bowling Green Falcons ice hockey team is the ice hockey team that represents Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green,Ohio. The school's team competes in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. The Falcons last played in the NCAA Men's Division I Ice Hockey Tournament in 2019. The Falcons have won one NCAA Division I championship,coming in 1984,defeating the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs in the longest championship game in the tournament's history.
Francis "Buddy" Powers is an American former ice hockey player,coach and scout. He was the head coach for Bowling Green as well as Ice Arena Director for the Slater Family Ice Arena and color commentator for Bowling Green on The Buckeye Cable Sports Network.
The Stroh Center is a multi-purpose arena on the campus of Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green,Ohio,United States. It replaced Anderson Arena as the home of the Bowling Green Falcons men's and women's basketball and women's volleyball teams,and hosts music concerts and the university's commencement ceremonies. The arena was designed by the architectural firm Rossetti Architects,designers of Red Bull Arena and Rio Tinto Stadium,and engineering firm URS Group Inc. The building opened in September 2011 and seats 4,387 people for basketball and volleyball games and 5,209 for convocation events and concerts.
The Falcon Marching Band,known also as the FMB,is the marching band of Bowling Green State University. It features a symphonic sound and chair step marching. Under the direction of Jonathan “Jon”Waters,marching band is the largest student organization on campus. The band performs at all home football games,which are hosted in Doyt Perry Stadium as well as other various university functions.
Jerry C. Lee was the sixth president of Gallaudet University from 1984 to 1988,later becoming the President of National University in La Jolla,California from 1989 to 2001 and Chancellor of the reorganized National University System from 2001 to 2013.
The 2009–10 Bowling Green Falcons men's ice hockey season was the Falcons' 41st season of varsity hockey and 39th in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA). The Falcons finished the year as the eleventh place team in the CCHA and in the first round of the CCHA Hockey Tournament,they lost to the sixth seed Nebraska Omaha. The team was coached by Dennis Williams in his first and only season as the program's head coach.
Paul J. Olscamp was a Canadian-American academic and university administrator,born in Montreal,Quebec. While attending the University of Western Ontario,Olscamp was a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity. He received his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in 1958 and 1960,respectively. He received his doctorate in philosophy from the University of Rochester in 1962,the first such degree awarded there. His continuing love of the subject was evident during his time at Bowling Green State University (BGSU) because he taught a philosophy course almost every semester,despite managing all his duties as president. While studying at the University of Rochester,Olscamp was a student of Colin Murray Turbayne.
Bowling Green State University Department of Popular Culture is the first Popular Culture department in the United States. The department was founded by Professor Ray Browne in 1973. The Popular Culture department is unique as it is the only one in the US to offer both Bachelor's degrees and Master's degrees in Popular Culture.
