Sikolo is a town in northern Ivory Coast. It is a sub-prefecture of Kong Department in Tchologo Region, Savanes District.

Ivory Coast State in West Africa

Ivory Coast or Côte d'Ivoire, officially the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, is a country located on the south coast of West Africa. Ivory Coast's political capital is Yamoussoukro in the centre of the country, while its economic capital and largest city is the port city of Abidjan. It borders Guinea and Liberia to the west, Burkina Faso and Mali to the north, Ghana to the east, and the Gulf of Guinea to the south.

Sub-prefectures of Ivory Coast are the fourth-level administrative subdivisions of the country. There are currently 510 sub-prefectures. They were created in 2011, when the administrative subdivisions of Ivory Coast were reorganised.

Kong Department Department in Savanes, Ivory Coast

Kong Department is a department of Tchologo Region in Savanes District, Ivory Coast. In 2014, its population was 87,929 and its seat is the settlement of Kong. The sub-prefectures of the department are Bilimono, Kong, Nafana, and Sikolo. The eastern edge of the department extends into Comoé National Park.

The far eastern portion of the sub-prefecture is within the borders of Comoé National Park.

Comoé National Park national park

The Comoé National Park is a Biosphere Reserve and UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Zanzan and Savanes Districts of north-eastern Ivory Coast. It is the largest protected area in West Africa, with an area of 11,500 km2, and ranges from the humid Guinea savanna to the dry Sudanian zone. This steep climatic north-south gradient allows the park to harbour a multitude of habitats with a remarkable diversity of life. Some animal and plant species even find their last sanctuary in some of the different savanna types, gallery forests, riparian grasslands, rock outcrops or forest islands.

Sikolo was a commune until March 2012, when it became one of 1126 communes nationwide that were abolished. [2]

The communes of Ivory Coast are a fifth-level administrative unit of administration in Ivory Coast. The sub-prefectures of Ivory Coast contain villages, and in select instances more than one village is combined into a commune. There are currently 197 communes in the 510 sub-prefectures.

In 2014, the population of the sub-prefecture of Sikolo was 21,163 [3] .
