The Silliman University College of Nursing (SUCN) is one of the constituent colleges of Silliman University, a private university in Dumaguete City, Philippines. Established in 1947, the college was attached as a four-year program under the College of Arts and Sciences. [1] In 1958, it implemented a five-year curriculum but reverted to its four-year baccalaureate program in 1976 when required to do so by the Department of Education and Culture (now the Department of Education). [1]

The College of Nursing provides instruction in both the undergraduate and graduate levels. A Center of Excellence in Nursing Education, it is on Level IV accreditation status and one of the country's top nursing schools. [2] [3] [4] In 2009, it ranked 1st in the Philippines based on licensure examination results. [5] [6] [7] It has a total of 108 board topnotchers since 1951. [8]

As one of the biggest academic units in the university, the college is housed in four buildings. These buildings are: Roble Hall which also houses the Office of the Dean; Mary Marquis Smith Hall; Olivia Villaflores-Yanson Hall and Ethel Chapman Hall. A fifth building named the William Barry Thompson Learning Resources Center is under construction. Its base hospital is the Silliman University Medical Center, but student nurses also get to be assigned in other hospitals in Dumaguete City.

The college was founded in 1935 with Emilio Javier and Felix Gaudiel as pioneers. When the college opened, it offered a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) program, but in 2009 it shifted its offering to Juris Doctor (JD). The Silliman University Medical School (SUMS) is an academic unit of Silliman University (SU), a private university, in Dumaguete City, Philippines. Established on March 20, 2004, the school used to hold classes at a two-storey annex beside the Angelo King Allied Medical Sciences Center inside the SU Campus. In 2013, the school transferred to its new building. As one of the newest medical schools in the Philippines, its pioneering batch graduated in 2009. The first batch of graduates who took the physician board exams in 2010 all passed giving the school its first 100% passing rate. The second graduating class that took the said exams in 2011 also passed giving the school another 100% passing rate. the Weekly Sillimanian, also known as tWS, is the official weekly student paper of Silliman University, a private university in Dumaguete City, Philippines. Its origin dates back to as early as 1903. Today, the paper is one of only four campus publications in the country that publishes on a weekly basis. Its office is situated at the ground floor of Oriental Hall, SU Campus along Hibbard Avenue.
