The Bavarian Class PtzL 3/4 engines with the Royal Bavarian State Railways were rack railway locomotives whose cogwheel drive was designed for working on tracks with a Strub rack. In 1923 they were incorporated by the Deutsche Reichsbahn as DRG Class 97.1 in their numbering plan. The locomotives remained on their regular route between Erlau and Wegscheid until the closure of this rack railway in 1963. The last journey was on 5 January 1963. They were scrapped in April 1964 at Simbach am Inn.

Südostbayernbahn is one of several regional railway networks in Germany owned by Germany's national railway, Deutsche Bahn AG. Since 2001, the network has included the railway hub of Mühldorf which connects 7 major railway lines from Munich, Rosenheim, Freilassing, Burghausen, Simbach am Inn, Passau and Landshut, forming a star-shaped network of lines called Linienstern Mühldorf. SüdostBayernBahn is subordinated to DB RegioNetz Verkehr and DB RegioNetz Infrastruktur.

Ruppertskirchen is a village in the municipality of Arnstorf in Rottal-Inn district in the province of Lower Bavaria in southern Germany. Ruppertskirchen lies on the Simbach stream between Arnstorf and Simbach bei Landau on state highway 2112. Before the regional reorganisation in Bavaria in 1972 Ruppertskirchen was an independent municipality with 42 subdivisions. At that time Ruppertskirchen was the largest municipality in present-day Markt Arnstorf and, in terms of area, the largest in the old district of Eggenfelden. It had a railway halt on the old Landau–Arnstorf railway.
