Simo Nurminen (born 2 January 1949) is a Finnish orienteering competitor. He received two bronze medals at the 1978 World Orienteering Championships in Kongsberg, one in the individual contest and one in the relay with the Finnish team. [1]
Simone Niggli-Luder is a Swiss orienteering athlete who has twice won all four women's competitions at the world championships. She is widely seen as one of the greatest orienteers of all time.
The World Orienteering Championships is an annual orienteering event organized by the International Orienteering Federation. The first World Championships was held in Fiskars, Finland in 1966. They were held biennially up to 2003. Since 2003, competitions have been held annually. Participating nations have to be members of the International Orienteering Federation (IOF).
Jani Lakanen is a Finnish orienteering competitor, winner of the 2006 World Orienteering Championships.
Kari Sallinen is a Finnish orienteering competitor. He was the first Finn who won the Individual World Orienteering Championships. The competition was held in the year 1985 in Bendigo, Australia. He was also part of the Finnish team that obtained bronze in the 1981 Relay World Championship in Thun, Switzerland.
Janne Juhani Salmi is a Finnish orienteering competitor, winner of the 1997 World Orienteering Championships, Short distance. World champion Relay 2001, silver medal 1995, 1997 and 1999. Married to Swiss orienteer Vroni König-Salmi.
Liisa Kaarina Peltola is a Finnish orienteering competitor. She won the 1976 Individual World Orienteering Championships, and took silver medal 1978 and 1979. She is also three times Relay World Champion, as a member of the Finnish winning team 1972, 1978 and 1979.
Outi Borgenström is a Finnish orienteering competitor. She won the 1979 Individual World Orienteering Championships, and took bronze medal 1974. She is also Relay World Champion, as a member of the Finnish winning team 1978.
Heli Jukkola is a Finnish orienteering competitor. She won the Long Distance World Orienteering Championships in 2007, and achieved second place in 2005. In the Middle Distance category, she finished second in 2007 and third in both 2003 and 2004. Jukkola is a two-time Relay World Champion, winning in 2006 and 2007 as a member of the Finnish team. She also earned a silver medal in 2004.
Kirsi Boström is a Finnish orienteering competitor and World champion. She won the 1999 Classic distance World Orienteering Championships. She won a gold medal at the 1995 World Orienteering Championships in Detmold with the Finnish relay team. She received silver medals with the relay team in 1993 and in 1999 (Inverness).
Sinikka Kukkonen was a Finnish orienteering competitor. She is World Champion in both orienteering and ski orienteering. She became the first World Champion in ski orienteering, in 1975.
Marita Ruoho is a Finnish orienteering competitor and World champion. She won a gold medal at the 1978 World Orienteering Championships in Kongsberg with the Finnish relay team. She received a silver medal in 1981 (Thun).
Mats Haldin is a Finnish orienteering competitor and two-time European champion with the Finnish relay team. He received a silver medal with the Finnish relay team at the 2003 World Orienteering Championships in Rapperswil/Jona, and again in 2006 in Aarhus. He received a bronze medal in relay at the 2007 World Championships in Kyiv. At the 2009 World Orienteering Championships in Miskolc he won a bronze medal in the relay, together with Topi Anjala and Tero Föhr.
Mårten Boström is a Finnish orienteering competitor and long-distance runner. He won a gold medal in sprint at the 2013 World Orienteering Championships in Vuokatti. He reached the podium in the junior race at the Nordic Cross Country Championships in 2001, taking the bronze. He received a bronze medal in sprint at the 2004 European Orienteering Championships in Roskilde. He received a silver medal in the classic distance at the 2001 Junior World Orienteering Championships, and a bronze medal in the relay event in 2000.
The Finnish Orienteering Federation is the governing body for the sport of orienteering in Finland. The federation was founded in 1945 and has approximately 60,000 members.
Matti Keskinarkaus is a Finnish ski-orienteering and mountain bike orienteering competitor. He is ski-O world champion and winner of the overall ski-O world cup year 2001.
Risto Nuuros is a Finnish orienteering competitor, individual silver medalist at the 1978 World Orienteering Championships in Kongsberg.
Jorma Karvonen is a Finnish ski-orienteering competitor and world champion. He won a gold medal at the first World Ski Orienteering Championships in Hyvinkää in 1975 in the relay event with the Finnish team. He also received an individual silver medal in 1975, and a bronze medal at the 1977 World Championships in Avesta.
Urho Kujala is a Finnish orienteering competitor. He received a bronze medal in the relay event at the 1978 World Orienteering Championships in Kongsberg, together with Jorma Karvonen, Simo Nurminen and Risto Nuuros.
Hannele Tonna is a Finnish ski-orienteering competitor and World Champion. She won a gold medal in the sprint at the 2009 World Ski Orienteering Championships. She won silver medals in the long distance in 2004, and again in 2007.
