Simona Castro (born January 11, 1989 [1] in Santiago, Chile) is a Chilean gymnast who competed at the 2012, 2016, and 2020 Olympic Games. She has a sister who is an artistic gymnast, Martina Castro.
She has been a part of the Chile National Gymnastics team since 2001. At the 2005 World Championships in Melbourne, she debuted at the senior international level, achieving 53rd place in the all-around. [2] At the 2007 South American Championships in Colombia, she won the gold medal in the floor exercise. [3] In 2009, she left Santiago to begin her college career at the University of Denver, majoring in business administration. At the 2011 South American Championships in Santiago, she won the silver medal on the balance beam. That same year at World Championships in Tokyo, Japan [4] she achieved 76th place, creating the spot for Chile at the Test Event in January 2012. She achieved the best result ever for a Chilean female gymnast at the world level. At the 2012 Pan-American Championships in Medellín, Colombia, she won the bronze on the balance beam. In March 2014, she won gold on the balance beam and silver in the All Around at South American Games, hosted in Santiago, Chile.
On January 11, 2012, she achieved 24th place at the Test Event in London to give her a spot at the 2012 Summer Olympics. [5] At the games, she finished in 43rd place in the all-around. [6]
She also competed at the 2016 Olympics, finishing 52nd in the individual all-around. [7]
Simona Amânar is a Romanian former artistic gymnast. She is the 2000 Olympic all-around champion, and a seven-time Olympic and ten-time World Championship medalist. Amânar helped Romania win four consecutive world team titles (1994–1999), as well as the 2000 Olympic team title. She has a vault named after her, one of the most difficult in women's gymnastics, and was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2007.
Daniele Matias Hypólito is a Brazilian gymnast who competed at the 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012 and the 2016 Olympic Games. Hypólito is the first gymnast from Brazil to win a medal at the World Championships, a silver in floor exercise in 2001. She is also the nine-time senior all-around Brazilian national champion in artistic gymnastics, 2002 South American Games all-around champion and 2003 Pan American Games all-around bronze medalist. To date, Hypólito has won the Brazilian National Championships more than ten times; represented Brazil at the World Championships thirteen times, competing in every championship from 1999 to 2015, except in 2009; taken part in every edition of the Olympic Games from 2000 to 2016; and competed at five Pan American Games between 1999 and 2015.
Rebecca Lauren Downie is a British artistic gymnast who competed at the 2008, 2016, and 2024 Summer Olympics. She is a double European champion and 2014 Commonwealth Games champion on the uneven bars as well as the 2019 World silver medallist.
Vanessa Ferrari is a retired Italian artistic gymnast. She was the 2006 World All-Around Champion and competed for Italy at the 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020 Summer Olympics, winning a silver medal on floor exercise in 2020. In doing so, Ferrari became the first Italian to win an individual Olympic medal in Women's Artistic Gymnastics, and the first medallist for the Italian women's team since the 1928 Summer Olympics. She is a five-time World medallist and eight-time European medallist, and is currently the most decorated Italian gymnast of all time.
Jade Fernandes Barbosa is a Brazilian artistic gymnast. She is a two-time individual bronze medalist at the World Championships, and represented Brazil at the 2008, 2016, and 2024 Olympic Games. She was part of the historic teams that won silver at the 2023 World Championships and bronze at the 2024 Olympic Games.
Lauren Stephanie Mitchell is an Australian former artistic gymnast. She is the 2010 World champion on the floor exercise and the 2009 World Championships silver medalist on the balance beam and floor exercise. Mitchell is only the second Australian female gymnast to win a medal at the World Championships, and she is the first to win a gold medal. She is the 2010 Commonwealth Games champion in the all-around, uneven bars, and balance beam, and with the Australian team, and she is the 2008 World Cup Final balance beam champion. She also represented Australia at the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games.
Cristina Bontaş is a Romanian former artistic gymnast, who competed in international events between 1987 and 1993. Her best events were the floor exercise, the vault, and the all around. She is a world champion on floor, a double olympic medalist and a six-time world medalist. Bontaş scored a perfect ten on floor in the all around event of the 1989 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.
Sui Lu is a retired Chinese gymnast. She started competing at the senior international level in 2008, and won a silver medal at the 2012 Olympics. Her strongest events were the balance beam, where she was the 2011 world champion and 2012 Olympic silver medalist, and the floor exercise, where she won two world championships medals.
Larisa Andreea Iordache is a Romanian former artistic gymnast. She represented Romania at the 2012 Olympic Games, winning a bronze medal with the team, and at the 2020 Olympic Games.
Elsabeth Ann Black is a Canadian artistic gymnast. She is a four-time Olympian, having represented her country at the 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024 Olympic games. She is the 2017 World all-around silver medallist, making her the first Canadian gymnast to win a world all-around medal, and she led the Canadian women's gymnastics team to a bronze medal in the 2022 World Championships team final, the first world team medal won by a Canadian gymnastics team. She won a silver medal on the balance beam at the 2022 World Championships. She is also the 2018 Commonwealth Games all-around champion, a two-time Pan American Games all-around champion, and a six-time Canadian national all-around champion. At the 2020 Olympic Games, Black placed fourth in the balance beam final, the highest placement in the Olympics for a female Canadian gymnast.
Valeria Vladimirovna Maksyuta is a former artistic gymnast who represented Ukraine for several years before immigrating to Israel in 2007.
Rebeca Rodrigues de Andrade is a Brazilian artistic gymnast. Having won a total of six Olympic and nine World medals, she is the most decorated Brazilian and Latin American gymnast of all time, as well as the most decorated Brazilian Olympian in any discipline. In the all-around, she is the 2022 World champion, a two-time Olympic silver medalist, the 2023 World silver medalist, and the 2021 Pan American champion. On vault, she is the 2020 Olympic gold medalist, the 2024 Olympic silver medalist, a two-time World Champion, and the 2023 Pan American Games champion. She led the Brazilian team to its first ever team medals at the 2023 World Championships (silver) and the 2024 Olympics (bronze), as well as the gold medal at the 2021 Pan American Championships. She won the gold medal at the 2024 Olympics in the floor exercise.
Jordan Lucella Elizabeth Chiles is an American artistic gymnast. She was a member of the gold medal-winning team at the 2024 Summer Olympics, having previously been a member of the silver medal-winning team at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She was also a member of the team that won gold at the 2022 World Championships. Individually, she was the 2022 World vault silver medalist and floor silver medalist. She has been a member of the United States women's national gymnastics team since 2013. In NCAA Gymnastics, Chiles competes for the UCLA Bruins gymnastics team, where she has won two Pac-12 titles and two NCAA championships.
Georgia-Rose Brown is an Australian artistic gymnast who currently represents New Zealand in international competition. She represented New Zealand at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Sanne Wevers is a Dutch artistic gymnast. She is the 2016 Olympic champion on the balance beam and was the first Dutch female gymnast to become an Olympic champion in an individual event. She is the 2018 and 2023 European champion on the balance beam. She is also the 2015 World and 2021 European silver medalist on the balance beam and the 2015 European bronze medalist on the uneven bars. She was a member of the Dutch team that won the bronze medal at the 2018 and 2023 European Championships.
Ariana Gabriela Orrego Martínez is a Peruvian former artistic gymnast. She represented Peru at the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games. She was the first ever Peruvian gymnast to compete at the Olympic Games. She is a six-time gold medalist at the South American Championships.
Diana Yevhenivna Varinska is a retired Ukrainian artistic gymnast. She is the 2019 European Games all-around and balance beam bronze medalist. Additionally, she was a member of the team that won Ukraine's first European team title at the 2020 European Championships. She represented Ukraine at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Julia das Neves Botega Soares is a Brazilian artistic gymnast and a member of the Brazilian national gymnastics team. Soares represented her country at the 2019 Junior World Championships, where she was a finalist on the balance beam. She made her international senior debut at the 2021 Pan American Championships where she helped Brazil win the team gold, and also took an individual bronze medal on the balance beam. She debuted a new skill, a candle mount with a half twist on the balance beam, which was named after her in the Code of Points. She was part of the silver medal-winning Brazilian team at the 2023 World Championships, and the of the bronze medal-winning team at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Tiana Sumanasekera is an American artistic gymnast and a member of the United States women's national artistic gymnastics team. She is the 2023 Pan American all-around and balance beam champion.
Sabrina Maneca-Voinea is a Romanian artistic gymnast. She represented Romania at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
