The Metro Manila Popular Music Festival was launched by the Popular Music Foundation of the Philippines in 1977 and held annually from 1978 to 1985. It was "the country's pioneering and once foremost songwriting competition," according to The Philippine Star. Its objective was to promote the advancement of Filipino music, and its chief proponents were journalist Teodoro Valencia and Imee Marcos. These festivals launched many the careers of songwriters and singers, and gave original Filipino music more than a few memorable and modern-day song classics. Among them is Freddie Aguilar.

She later graduated in 2003 in Hotel Restaurant and Management from Quezon City and married her Filipino-American husband in Manila in 2005. They later moved to America where they went on to have a son but eventually separated. During an interview with TFC's Balitang America, it was revealed that she now works as a marketing executive in the healthcare industry and has since remarried in 2012 to Mike Monaco, an Italian-American. The couple were also expecting their first child within two months. On October 11, 2014, she appeared as a guest on ASAP's concert in Los Angeles to perform her hit songs while being accompanied by Toni and Alex Gonzaga. This marked her first television performance since her retirement from showbusiness. In 2018, she released a song titled "Iisa Lang" under composer Vehnee Saturno's music label marking her first music release since returning into the music industry.

<i>Jolina</i> 1999 studio album by Jolina Magdangal

Jolina is the second studio album by Filipino singer and actress Jolina Magdangal released by Star Music on January 9, 1999. The album consists mostly of passionate, easy-listening love songs, a style of music quite popular in the Philippines. Five of the tracks on the album were originally used as soundtrack in various movies she starred to which include "Tameme" and "Sana'y Kapiling Ka" in the film F.L.A.M.E.S.: The Movie (1997), the re-recorded "T.L. Ako Sa'yo" and her cover of "Tulak Ng Bibig, Kabig Ng Dibdib" in Kung Ayaw Mo, Huwag Mo! (1998), and "Kapag Ako Ay Nagmahal" in Labs Kita... Okey Ka Lang? (1998). The only American song remake in the album is the studio recording of Anita Bryant-original "Paper Roses" which Magdangal sung on a drama anthology television program, Maalaala Mo Kaya.

John Melo is a Filipino singer and songwriter. He won the 1993 Awit Awards for Best New Male Performance. After a long absence from the music scene, he returned in 2017 with his new song Malapit Na Ang Pasko. He is also a U.S Correspondent and a sports news writer

Venancio Saturno, better known as Vehnee Saturno, is a Filipino composer, songwriter and record producer. He found success in 1982 by winning first place at the Metro Manila Popular Music Festival for the song "Isang Dakot".
