Simplex Chithyola Banda is a Malawian politician and educator who is the current Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs (Malawi) [1] [2] in Malawi from February 2023. [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] He is a Member of Parliament for Kasungu South Constituency from Malawi Congress Party. [8] [9]

Personal life

Banda was born in 1969 in Kasungu, Malawi. He attended Kasungu Secondary School. He has a Master's Degree in Public Policy and Administration. [3] He was appointed by President Lazarus Chakwera as the new Minister of Finance replacing Sosten Gwengwe. [10] [11]

The kwacha is the currency of Malawi as of 1971, replacing the Malawian pound. It is divided into 100 tambala. The kwacha replaced other types of currency, namely the British pound sterling, the South African rand, and the Rhodesian dollar, that had previously circulated through the Malawian economy. Kasungu is a town in the Kasungu District of the Central Region of Malawi. The population of Kasungu was 58,653 according to the 2018 census. Kasungu is approximately 130 kilometres (81 mi) north-west of the capital of Malawi, Lilongwe, and is 35 kilometres (22 mi) east of Kasungu National Park. The main industry in Kasungu is tobacco-growing.

John Zenus Ungapake Tembo was a Malawian politician who served for years as President of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP). Tembo comes from the Dedza District in central Malawi, and he was a teacher by profession. The Christian Health Association of Malawi(CHAM) is a non-governmental healthcare organisation in Malawi that seeks to ensure that all people have access to high-quality and affordable health services. According to its official website, the organisation claims to provide 30% of Malawi's healthcare services and trains up to 80% of Malawi's healthcare providers. It serves in typical rural and urban areas, to less fortunate and most underserved populations. The organisation is a network of church-owned health facilities, hospitals and training colleges with an intention to provide lower-cost health services, as well as promotion of diverse and special healthcare services. It is made of 195 health facilities and 11 training colleges located all over the country.

Bon Kalindo also known as Winiko is a Malawian activist, comedian, politician and actor. In 2023, Kalindo protested against the Malawi Congress Party whose president is Lazarus Chakwera, the current president of Malawi, to step down out of presidency due to devaluation of the country's currency. He was arrested several times. On 30 August 2023, he was arrested and released out of the prison the same day.

Copyright Association of Malawi (COSOMA) is a Malawian parastatal organization established in 1992 after the enactment of the Copyright Act of 1989. Its main objective is promotion and protection of interest of composers, authors, performers, producers and broadcasters. COSOMA collects and distributes royalties to the rights holders for their rights. Kasungu Prison is situated in the central region of Malawi, approximately 130 kilometers north of Lilongwe, the capital city. It is located in a rural area, surrounded by farmland and villages. The primary objectives of Kasungu Prison are to provide a secure and safe environment for prisoners, to offer rehabilitation programs and vocational training, and to prepare inmates for reintegration into society upon release. The aim of Kasungu Prison is to contribute to the reduction of crime and the promotion of community safety through the incarceration and rehabilitation of offenders.

Southeast African nation of Malawi has a complicated criminal history that is a reflection of its political, economic, and cultural environment. Although crime in Malawi dates back to pre-colonial times, it wasn't until the colonial era that it started to pose a serious threat.
