Sinfonietta Rīga

Sinfonietta Rīga is a state chamber orchestra in Latvia founded in 2006. [1] Consisting of young students, the orchestra is influenced by Western and Eastern culture. [1] Arvo Pärt's works were presented by the ensemble at the Elbphilharmonie, Hamburg. [2] The chamber ensemble has recorded with WERGO and Ondine. [2] Since 2006, Normunds Šnē has been artistic director, Paavo Järvi has been guest conductor. [2] Beside Western repertoire, Sinfonietta Rīga often plays Latvian and Baltic music [3] and commissions works by contemporary Latvian composers. [4] Important are collaborations with Jörg Widmann, [5] Christian Lindberg [6] and Martin Grubinger. [2] Another orchestra from Riga is the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra. [7]

Maxim Viktorovich Beitan known as Max Beitan, is a Latvian cellist. He is the winner of 18 international competitions five of them Grand Prix Awards. Max Beitan tours and performs extensively in Europe, the US and Asia and is famous by his virtuosic repertoire. Beitan currently resides in Lugano, Switzerland.

Livonia is one of the five multi-member constituencies of the Saeima, the national legislature of Latvia. The constituency was established in 1922 when the Saeima was established following Latvia's independence from the Soviet Union. It consists of the city of Jūrmala and municipalities of Ādaži, Alūksne, Cēsis, Gulbene, Ķekava, Limbaži, Madona, Mārupe, Ogre, Olaine, Ropaži, Salaspils, Saulkrasti, Sigulda, Smiltene, Valka, Valmiera and Varakļāni in the region of Livonia. The constituency currently elects 26 of the 100 members of the Saeima using the open party-list proportional representation electoral system. At the 2022 parliamentary election it had 396,278 registered electors.

<i>Vocalises</i> (Ivanovs) 1982 choral composition by Jānis Ivanovs

The Vocalises are a set of fourteen pieces for SATB chorus a capella by Jānis Ivanovs. The first was "Rudens dziesma", composed in 1964. Through the encouragement of Imants Kokars, Ivanovs developed this and subsequent Vocalises into a cycle. The final one was composed in 1982, the year before the composer's death. Individual Vocalises were performed by choirs in Ivanovs' native Latvian SSR, as well as elsewhere in the Soviet Union, where they were received positively. The integral cycle was not performed in public until December 13 and 14, 2003; at the St. Peter's Church in Riga by the Ave Sol Chamber Choir conducted by Uldis Kokars.
