Sipho Mumbi (born February 20, 1983) is a Zambian retired footballer midfielder who last played for NAPSA Stars in the Zambian Premier League. [1]
Born and raised in Zambia, Mumbi started his career at local club Tazara Express in Kapiri Mposhi before relocating to the United States, playing college soccer for Stratford Academy. [2] After two years he returned to Zambia, joining Zanaco and winning the Zambian Premier League title in his second season with the club. [3] Mumbi helped his team to win the Zambian Charity Shield as well as the Zambian Coca-Cola Cup a year later, earning his first caps for the Zambian national team in the process. [4]
In 2005, Mumbi returned to the United States to compete in the USL Premier Development League playing for Ajax Orlando Prospects, the farm team of Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam. He made five league appearances while scoring twice in one season with Ajax, before returning to Zambia and joining Lusaka Dynamos. Playing in the Zambian Premier League once more, Mumbi remained with the Dynamos for one season, before joining crosstown rivals City of Lusaka. [5]
In 2008, Mumbi joined Petro do Huambo competing in the Girabola, the top flight of football in Angola. [6] After one season he returned to Zambia, playing for Zamsure for six months. [7] He then joined Dolo Mando in India for six months, before returning to Angola to join Progresso. [8]
In 2012, Mumbi joined NAPSA Stars in Zambia, competing in the CAF Champions League, and helping his team to win the 2012 Barclays Cup. [9] [10]
Mumbi has played for Zambia at various youth levels. He has also played for the senior team on several occasions, playing in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Botswana and Rwanda. [11]
Nkana FC is a football club based in Kitwe, Zambia. The football team competes in the MTN Super League, the top division of Zambian football. Nkana FC has won 13 League titles, which makes it Zambia's most successful league club, and second overall behind Mufulira Wanderers, with 52 trophies. They play their home games at Nkana Stadium in Wusakile, Kitwe.

Patrick Phiri is a Zambian football coach and former footballer. He featured for Zambian clubs Rokana United and Red Arrows as a striker and represented Zambia at the 1978 and 1982 African Cup of Nations tournaments. As a coach, Phiri led the Zambia U-20 national team to its first ever appearance at the 1999 FIFA World Youth Championship in Nigeria and was voted Zambian Coach of the Year at the end of the year. He was also in charge of Zambia at the 2008 African Cup of Nations in Ghana and has managed ten different club sides, with three of them more than once. He is currently in charge of Nakambala Leopards in the Zambian Premier League.
Mufulira Wanderers are Zambia's most successful football club, based in the Copperbelt town of Mufulira and currently playing in the Zambia Super League for the 2023/2024 season after their promotion from the Zambia National Division One.
Biggie Mbasela, better known as Gibby Mbasela was a Zambian footballer who played for Kalulushi Modern Stars, Mufulira Wanderers, Nkana Red Devils, 1. FC Union Berlin of Germany and Tunisian champions Esperance. Renowned for his dribbling skills, Mbasela was voted Zambian Footballer of the Year in 1990.
Peter Kaumba is a Zambian football coach and former player. He was voted the best winger at CAN 1982, when Zambia came out third. In consequence, he was considered to be the Zambia's top player, top scorer and Sportsman of the Year in 1982.
Fighton Simukonda was a Zambian coach and former footballer. He was part of the Nkana Red Devils side of the 1980s, winning five league titles, and he also captained Zambia. As a coach, he won several Zambian Premier League titles and became the first coach to lead a Zambian club to the group phase of the CAF Champions' League.
Kenneth Malitoli is a Zambian coach and former footballer. Nicknamed 'Bubble', Malitoli is one of Zambia's most decorated players and was Zambian league top scorer in three consecutive seasons, as well as top scorer in Tunisia in 1993 and 1994. He is regarded as Nkana Football Club's most prolific striker after Bernard Chanda. He won the CAF Champions League with Tunisian club Espérance in 1994 and featured at four CAN tournaments in 1990, 1994, 1996 and 1998. Malitoli is currently coaching Zambian Division I South side Lusaka City Council.

The 2019-20 Zambia Super League is the 59th season of the Zambia Super League, the top-tier football league in Zambia. This is the first Super League season that has a new format which conforms with the CAF calendar. The league kicked off on 31 August. Zesco United are the defending champions and KYSA and Kansashi Dynamos are the newly promoted sides into the super league.
The 2019–20 Zambian Charity Shield was the 54th Charity Shield, an annual football match played between the winners of the previous season's Super League and ABSA Cup. This was the second editions in 2019 due to the transitional from a calendar year season to a spring-fall season. This seasons’ Charity Shield match puts 2019 transitional Super League and ABSA Cup winners Zesco United against ABSA Cup runners up Zanaco. Before the 2019-20 Charity Shield final Zesco United featured in the previous 2019 final against Nkana, Zesco lost that match 5–4 on penalties. Zanaco defeated Zesco 1–0 with the only goal being scored by Ziyo Tembo. That defeat for Zesco United was the third consecutive season they have failed to win the Charity Shield, having lost the two previous to Nkana. The match was played at Woodlands Stadium on 17 August 2019.

According to records from the RSSSF, there were many association football cup competitions organized in Zambia since 1962, some of which are the Independence Cup, the Zambian Challenge Cup, the Champion of Champions Cup and Zambian Coca-Cola Cup, the latter which began in 2001. These competitions are either inactive or were played no more as of 2009.
