The open-air museum consisting of buildings tracing the history of the town was established as Skagen Bymuseum in 1927 by the citizens of Skagen. It also has displays focusing on its fisheries, lifeboat services and navigation. Originally located in Skagen's Østerby, in 1938 it was moved to its current site on Svallerbakken in the dunes bordering Vesterby. In 1997, the name was changed to Skagen By- og Egnsmuseum. In 2009 it became associated with the region's other cultural heritage museums under the heading Nordjyllands Kystmuseum and re-named Kystmuseet Skagen. [2]
The museum consists of a number of old houses showing how fishermen and other local inhabitants lived in times gone by. It covers the town's development from the beginning of the 19th century to the present day. The country residences of the rich and the huts of poor fishermen are among the exhibits. There is also a blacksmith's shop and a lifeboat station. Indoors, there are displays of nautical artifacts, old photographs and paintings covering various periods in the history of Skagen up to the present day. Aars or Års, is a Danish town with a population of 8,671 in Himmerland, Denmark. Administratively, Aars is the municipal seat of Vesthimmerland Municipality and biggest town of Vesthimmerland Municipality, Region Nordjylland since 2007 and it was also the seat of the mayor in the now abolished Aars Municipality. The Skagen Painters were a group of Scandinavian artists who gathered in the village of Skagen, the northernmost part of Denmark, from the late 1870s until the turn of the century. Skagen was a summer destination whose scenic nature, local milieu and social community attracted northern artists to paint en plein air, emulating the French Impressionists—though members of the Skagen colony were also influenced by Realist movements such as the Barbizon school. They broke away from the rather rigid traditions of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts, espousing the latest trends that they had learned in Paris. Among the group were Anna and Michael Ancher, Peder Severin Krøyer, Holger Drachmann, Karl Madsen, Laurits Tuxen, Marie Krøyer, Carl Locher, Viggo Johansen and Thorvald Niss from Denmark, Oscar Björck and Johan Krouthén from Sweden, and Christian Krohg and Eilif Peterssen from Norway. The group gathered together regularly at the Brøndums Hotel.
Skagen Odde, also Skagens Odde, sometimes known in English as the Scaw Spit or The Skaw, is a sandy peninsula which stretches some 30 km (19 mi) northeast and comprises the northernmost area of Vendsyssel in Jutland, Denmark.

Drachmann's House, also known as Villa Pax, is one of the major houses of Skagen, northern Denmark. Located on Hans Baghs Vej towards the western side of the town, it was built in 1829 and is now a museum. It is a writer's home museum dedicated to the writer and marine painter Holger Drachmann who lived in the house from 1902 until his death in a sanatorium in Hornbæk in January 1908. Drachmann had regularly visited Skagen from 1871.

Skagen's Vippefyr is a navigational light mechanism located in Skagen in the far north of Jutland. The original vippefyr, the first of its kind, was built in 1627. A faithful copy now stands on the same site. It replaced an earlier parrot light (papegøjefyr) and served until 1747 when the White Lighthouse was brought into operation.
The Historical Museum of Northern Jutland (HMNJ) is the product of the fusion of Aalborg Historical Museum, The Museum Society for Hals, The Museum Society of Hadsund, The South Himmerland Museum, and others, in 2004. The museum system in this umbrella organization is administered by a 12-member committee, with members from the participating organizations. The administrative headquarters is in Algade 48, Aalborg.
Launching the Boat. Skagen is an 1884 painting by the Swedish artist Oscar Björck. It depicts the activities of the local fishermen, a favourite subject for the Skagen Painters. Launching the Boat is the largest of Björck's open-air paintings from Skagen. It is on display in Skagens Museum.
