Skavica Hydro Power Plant is a proposed large power plant on the Drin River situated in Albania.

The project consists of a large power plant with a nominal capacity of 250 MW [1] on the Drin River operated by the Italian company TGK Group that will invest US$664 million in the project.

The reservoir was planned to have a surface area of 14 km2, and a storage capacity of about 400 million m3. It was completed in 2016.

The Koman Hydroelectric Power Station is a large hydroelectric power station, for which a dam on the Drin River was built. The dam is near the settlement of Koman, northern Albania. It is the second of three dams on the Drin River; the Fierza Hydroelectric Power Station upstream, and the Vau i Dejës Hydroelectric Power Station downstream. The dam, 130m tall, was completed in 1985 and the reservoir was filled with water at full capacity in 1986.

Hydroelectricity in Albania

Albania is the biggest producer of hydroelectric energy in the world by percentage and by own production (100%). Albania aims to increase its production to 100%. Some of the projects underway include Skavica, up to 350 MW, Devolli 400 MW, Vjosa 400 MW, Kalivaci and Ashta 48 MW hydropower plants, Valbona and Tropojë, 40 MW.

Moglicë Hydro Power Plant is a large hydroelectricity plant under construction on the river Devoll situated near the village Moglicë, Albania. The project consists of a large power plant with an installed capacity of 197 MW and an average annual production of 475 GWh. It is being built by Devoll Hydropower, an Albanian company owned by Norwegian power company Statkraft. The asphalt-core rock-fill dam will be 320 m long, 150 m high and 460 m wide. The dam is anticipated to be the world's highest of its kind upon completion. The reservoir will have a surface area of 7.2 km2, and a storage capacity of about 360 million m3. The power plant is part of the Devoll Hydropower Project and construction on it began in June 2013. It is expected to be completed in 2019.

The Energy of Albania is the largest electricity producing company in Albania. KESH operates the most important electricity generating plants in the country. They include: The Drin River Cascade hydropower plants, with an installed power capacity of 1,350 MW, and the Vlora TPP, with an installed power capacity of 98 MW. The cascade, built on the Drin River, is the largest in the Balkan region by installed capacity, as well as by the size of the hydropower plants.

Lake Koman

Lake Koman is a reservoir on the Drin River in northern Albania. Lake Koman is surrounded by dense forested hills, vertical slopes, deep gorges, and a narrow valley, completely taken up by the river. Besides the Drin, it is fed by the Shala and Valbona Rivers. The lake stretches in an area of 34 km2 (13 sq mi), its width being 400 m (0.25 mi). The narrowest gorge, which is surrounded by vertical canyon walls, is more than 50 m (0.031 mi) wide. The reservoir was constructed between 1979 and 1988 near the village of Koman with a height of 115 m (377 ft).
