Skrape was an American nu metal band formed in Orlando, Florida in 1997. [4] [1]
Skrape originally formed in 1997 under the name "Jojo", they later renamed to "Skrape" two years later. Prior to their formation in 1997, members had been involved in notable acts such as Stuck Mojo and Genitorturers. [5]
The band managed to build up a sizeable following in their local area, despite rarely playing live shows. [5] After shopping around a 7 song demo to various labels, they eventually signed to RCA Records in 1999. [6] [7] In a 2001 interview, guitarist/keyboardist Brian Milner stated, "Part of that whole story about us being elusive in the beginning was because once we got our deal and started working on our album, we really didn't play (live) for a long time. We did a few shows, then we were gone recording the record and came back in nine or 10 months and played again." [5] He also added that, "The first couple of gigs that we did, I wasn't even in the band yet, and from what I hear, it was pretty awful. Nobody liked it and there were actually people who said, 'Give it up,' stuff like that. They didn't understand the sound yet; it was a few years ago, so there wasn't all this nu-metal that's out now." [8] Skrape were noted for being one of the only major label metal acts from Orlando, an area known at the time for teen pop artists such as Backstreet Boys and NSYNC. Milner recalled "We go to play somewhere in Michigan and people come up to us and say, `Orlando? That's the home of the Backstreet Boys and Disney! It doesn't really have anything to do with what we do." [8] Their 2001 debut New Killer America (produced by Ulrich Wild) spawned two singles in "Waste" and "Isolated". Tours with popular metal bands such as Pantera, Slayer and Morbid Angel saw the album sell in excess of 100,000 copies in the US, a relatively low number for a major label group at the time. The album experienced more success in Japan, where it was the twelfth highest selling album of 2001. [9]
Their second album Up the Dose was released in 2004 with little support from their label, who had recently been taken over by J Records. Beforehand, the band toured with Soil, Static-X, and Twisted Method. The album had been finished since mid-2003, and the band was set to release "Summer Song" as a single, but the album was pushed back several times, eventually being released in January. Faced with the prospect of releasing a single entitled "Summer Song" in January, they changed the name of the song to "Stand Up (Summer Song)". A couple of months after Up the Dose's release, the band was dropped from the label. Drummer Will Hunt explained "The reason we're gone, along with Hotwire and Eve 6, is because we all shared the same A&R guy, Brian Malouf, who was let go by the label a few days prior to the bands. I'd like to throw out a big, BIG fuck you to the fucking cowards at J (for joke) Records for taking over RCA and not allowing them to promote our band correctly. I'd like to also say to [J Records president] Clive Davis that I've got a nice big hot bowl of dicks for you to eat on when you've got the time. I'd like to thank you personally for killing rock and roll and watering down the music industry with pop trappings and watered-down retro rock." [10] He also hinted at possible future activities with Skrape, but nothing has happened other than a reunion gig in 2005 opening for Dark New Day. They are now disbanded.
In 2004, Hunt became a member of the supergroup Dark New Day, and then later Evanescence. Guitarist Brian Milner went on to join Dope as their bassist. Billy Keeton has continued to pursue his musical career with various projects, such as the short-lived Blessed in Black (featuring former members of Nothingface). Keeton also has contributed vocals for local Florida cover band Money Shot when not working with former members of Primer 55 Bobby Burns (Soulfly) and Kobie Jackson. Formerly titled Paris is Burning, the three have named the project King Street. Keeton currently is vocalist for Audiotopsy, which features bassist Perry Stern as well as drummer Matthew McDonough and guitarist Greg Tribbett of Mudvayne.
Pete Sison was also in Moneyshot with Keeton for a short period until Slaughter offered Sison a position as a backup bassist for Dana Strum. Sison is also involved with Kentucky rockers Bleeding Black and Waking Season, and continues to write with Billy Keeton in a side project called HoneyHole.
Skrape is most commonly classified as nu metal. [1] Regarding the band's style and attitude to music, Brian Milner stated in 2001, "Our music is aggressive, but in general we have a good time playing it and we don't walk around being depressed all the time. We just do what we do. We play rock 'n' roll. There's a new generation of kids, the whole depressing Pearl Jam era is over." [6] AllMusic praised the band's "bright and intelligent approach to hard rock" on New Killer America . [2] The website lists their influences as being Iron Maiden, Kiss, Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne and Pantera. [1] Vocalist Billy Keeton has mentioned some of his musical inspirations as being Frank Sinatra, Ronnie James Dio, Queens of the Stone Age and Godflesh. [4] [11]

Nu metal is a subgenre of alternative metal that combines elements of heavy metal music with elements of other music genres such as hip hop, alternative rock, funk, industrial, and grunge. Nu metal rarely features guitar solos or other displays of musical technique; the genre is heavily syncopated and based on guitar riffs. Many nu metal guitarists use seven-string guitars that are down-tuned to produce a heavier sound. DJs are occasionally featured in nu metal to provide instrumentation such as sampling, turntable scratching and electronic background music. Vocal styles in nu metal include singing, rapping, screaming and growling. Nu metal is one of the key genres of the new wave of American heavy metal.
Incubus is an American rock band from Calabasas, California. The band was formed in 1991 by vocalist Brandon Boyd, lead guitarist Mike Einziger, and drummer José Pasillas while enrolled in Calabasas High School and later expanded to include bassist Alex "Dirk Lance" Katunich, and Gavin "DJ Lyfe" Koppel; the latter two were eventually replaced by bassist Ben Kenney and DJ Kilmore, respectively. Nicole Row replaced Kenney in 2024.
Slayer is an American thrash metal band from Huntington Park, California, formed in 1981 by guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, drummer Dave Lombardo and bassist/vocalist Tom Araya. Slayer's fast and aggressive musical style made them one of the "big four" bands of thrash metal, alongside Metallica, Megadeth, and Anthrax. Slayer's current lineup consists of King, Araya, drummer Paul Bostaph and guitarist Gary Holt, who initially joined as a touring member in 2011 before joining the band permanently after Hanneman's death in 2013. Drummer Jon Dette was also a member of the band.
S.C.I.E.N.C.E. is the second studio album by American rock band Incubus. It was released on September 9, 1997, by Epic and Immortal Records. The album was certified gold by the RIAA, and is the second and final release to feature Gavin Koppel, who first appeared on the 1997 Enjoy Incubus EP. It has been occasionally considered the band's proper debut album, due to the nature of their independent release Fungus Amongus.
Body Count is an American heavy metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1990. The group is fronted by Ice-T, who first established himself as a rapper but co-founded the group with lead guitarist Ernie C out of their interest in heavy metal music. Ice-T took on the role of vocalist and writing the lyrics for most of Body Count's songs, while Ernie C has been responsible for writing the group's music.
Helmet is an American alternative metal band from New York City formed in 1989 by vocalist and lead guitarist Page Hamilton. Helmet has had numerous lineup changes with Hamilton as the only constant member. Since 2010, the band has consisted of Hamilton, drummer Kyle Stevenson, guitarist Dan Beeman and bassist Dave Case.
Kittie is a Canadian heavy metal band from London, Ontario, formed in 1996 by guitarist Fallon Bowman and sisters Mercedes and Morgan Lander, on drums and vocals/guitars, respectively. Tanya Candler completed the band's early line-up on bass. The Lander sisters have remained the band's sole constant members. Collectively, their material released via independent record labels has sold over two million copies worldwide.
Nothingface was an American nu metal band from Washington, D.C., formed in 1993. Their best-known and most prolific line-up consisted of Matt Holt (vocals), Tom Maxwell (guitar), Bill Gaal (bass) and Chris Houck (drums). They disbanded in 2004, only to reform the following year, reuniting with Gaal and Houck, and then disband four years later. In 2017, Holt died from a degenerative disease.
Philip Hansen Anselmo is an American heavy metal musician best known as the lead singer for Pantera, Down, and Superjoint, amongst other musical projects. He is the owner of Housecore Records.
Damageplan was an American heavy metal band from Dallas, Texas, formed in 2003. Following the demise of their previous group Pantera, brothers Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul Abbott wanted to start a new band. The pair recruited former Diesel Machine and Halford guitarist Patrick Lachman on vocals, and later Bob Zilla on bass. Damageplan released New Found Power, their only album, on February 10, 2004. New Found Power debuted at number 38 on the Billboard 200, selling 44,676 copies in its first week.
Trust Company is an American rock band from Montgomery, Alabama. Formed in 1997 by guitarist/lead vocalist Kevin Palmer and drummer Jason Singleton. Trust Company has sold over 1 million albums worldwide. They are best known for their 2002 song "Downfall".

Gregory Arnold Tribbett Jr. is an American guitarist who is one of the founding members, lead guitarist and backing vocalist of the metal band Mudvayne. He is also the former lead guitarist and backing vocalist of the metal bands Audiotopsy and Hellyeah. He's been with Mudvayne from their inception in 1996 until their dissolution in 2010, and again from 2021 to now. He has named Randy Rhoads as the guitarist who most influenced him. Greg has 3 brothers; Derrick "Tripp" Tribbett, who previously played bass for Dope, and sang for Makeshift Romeo and Twisted Method, The Late Dustin "Diggz" Tribbett, once the bass player for Element, and Dead End Asylum, is now an independent musician and writer, and also Matt Tribbett, who was a drum technician for the American metal band Slipknot.
Matthew McDonough is an American drummer best known as a member of the heavy metal band Mudvayne. He is the band's original drummer and has appeared and performed on every release by Mudvayne. He was also the original drummer of Audiotopsy since 2015 until his departure in 2021. He holds a respected place in the world of drumming for his signature drumming style.
John Cowan is an American soul music and progressive bluegrass vocalist and bass guitar player. He was the lead vocalist and bass player for the New Grass Revival. Cowan became the band's bassist in 1972 after the departure of original bassist Ebo Walker and was noted as being the only member of New Grass Revival not to come from a bluegrass background.

Audiotopsy is an American heavy metal band from Peoria, Illinois, formed in 2015. The band's current lineup consists of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Billy Keeton, lead guitarist and backing vocalist James Vinson, bassist and backing vocalist Perry Stern, and drummer Trevor Bodkins.
