Smokers Die Younger are a four-piece rock band from Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. Their debut album opens with hardcore grunge rock and closes with avant-garde art-rock, taking in dub, country music, indie, and rock and roll.[ citation needed ]
Smokers Die Younger are part of the underground live music scene of Sheffield, which has produced groups including Arctic Monkeys, Reverend and the Makers, Little Man Tate, Monkey Swallows the Universe, and The Long Blondes. [1] They featured in a television documentary about music in Sheffield aired as Rockbyen Sheffield on Danish channel DR2 and as an episode of the Musikbyrån series on Swedish channel SVT in summer 2007. Having played regularly at the Northern Sounds festival in France, they appeared on fashion mogul Karl Lagerfeld's compilation CD Les Musiques Que J'aime, published by Vogue magazine at the end of 2006. [3]
Earlier in their musical careers, Golf had helped to found the electro-noise outfit that became 65daysofstatic and Trout had been instrumental in many cult British bands including A.C. Temple, Bear, Coping Saw, Kilgore Trout, Lazerboy, and Spoonfed Hybrid. Ian Turley has also played in The Ape Drape Escape, The Parallelogram, Pygmy Globetrotters and All Ashore! and is currently making solo music under his My Lo-Fi Heart moniker.
Founding member, and bass player Graham Booth, left the band in late 2007. Also founding member and drummer Chris Trout left the band in 2009.

Michael Sheridan is an Australian guitarist. Having played and recorded with an array of artists his versatility in original music spans the styles of rock, jazz/punk, industrial, metal, and sonic art including glitch & noise. He has released solo works such as Scaleshack,Digital Jamming and collaborations with Nicholas Littlemore and associates. He has been a member of several bands since 1975 including No (1987–1989) with Ollie Olsen and Marie Hoy, which were described as "One of Australias most compelling stage acts incorporating speed metal, hip hop and electro funk". New Yorkshire was a musical movement identified by UK music magazine NME in 2005, in response to the success of Yorkshire bands such as Arctic Monkeys, The Cribs, and Kaiser Chiefs at the time.
Monkey Swallows the Universe (MSTU) were an acoustic/indie band from Sheffield, England. Their sound has been described as "folk tinged" and "twee" though not "pansy" or "saccharine". MSTU were active from 2004 to 2008. They took their name from an episode of the Japanese TV series Monkey.
Thee Sheffield Phonographic Corporation, or Thee SPC, is an independent record label based in Sheffield, UK. It is one of the most influential labels in the Yorkshire area, having given early breaks and support to many bands in the so-called New Yorkshire scene. The label was formed by Markie Mofo, Rob Chuck, Darren Chuck and Missy Tassles; all one-time members of bands including Velodrome 2000, The Motherfuckers and Chuck, Mark went on to be in The Parallellograms and The Mini Skips whilst Missy has continued in bands Flying Wing, Light Ray, The Sleazoids performed briefly with The Wedding Present and solo as The Girl Next Door. The SPC label has an extensive catalogue; their trademarks are thick, coloured vinyl and sleevenotes written in a comical Victorian style. They used to broadcast a weekly radio show on the internet station Sheffield Live.
The Hair and Skin Trading Company is a British drone / avant-noise group, formed in 1991 by ex-Loop members Neil Mackay (vocals/bass) and John Wills (drums). Joined by Nigel Webb (Guitars) and Richard Johnston on samples, they released their debut album Jo in Nine G Hell on Beggars Banquet Records in 1992. They also played the Reading Festival that year, with tours of Europe, US and the UK, following their subsequent releases - with shows at CBGB's and the Knitting Factory, New York & Festivals such as C.M.J - New York, Roskilde Festival, Denmark and Phoenix Festival, United Kingdom.
"Leave Before the Lights Come On" is a song by English indie rock band Arctic Monkeys. The song was released on 14 August 2006 as the band's third single in the United Kingdom. The song was not included on the band's debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, though Alex Turner has stated that it could have been on the album as it follows a similar theme to many of the album tracks. It was the band's final release before promotion began for their second album Favourite Worst Nightmare in spring 2007. However, the song was not included on that album either.
"Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors" is the first single from English rock band Editors' second album, An End Has a Start. It was released as a digital download on 11 June 2007 and as a physical single through CD and vinyl on 18 June 2007 in the United Kingdom. It peaked at number seven on the UK Singles Chart in its first week of physical release and became a moderate to minor hit in Belgium, Ireland, the Netherlands and Poland. A single was also released in the US on 26 June 2007. The song was set to debut on Zane Lowe's show on 30 April; however, the song leaked on the internet a few days preceding.
"Death Ramps" is an alias for British indie rock band Arctic Monkeys. They usually go under this name in collaboration with Miles Kane and fellow Sheffield artist Richard Hawley, and have released five tracks, all B-sides to Arctic Monkeys singles.
"Stormy Weather" is a single by Echo & the Bunnymen which was released on 5 September 2005 on the Cooking Vinyl label. It was the first single to be released from the 2005 album, Siberia. It reached number 55 on the UK Singles Chart.
"Singles" is a compilation album released by the Sheffield band The Long Blondes on October 8, 2008 via Angular Records. The 12-track album collates all of the songs from the band's singles prior to their signing to Rough Trade Records in April 2006, released by various independent record labels. The compilation was released on the same day that the band broke up, with the album's inlay breaking the news of their decision to split.
Humbug is the third studio album by English rock band Arctic Monkeys, first released on 19 August 2009 through the Domino Recording Company. The band started to write new material for the album towards the end of summer 2008, and finished it entirely in spring 2009.
"Crying Lightning" is a song by the English indie rock band Arctic Monkeys, released as the first single from their third album Humbug. It was first played on Zane Lowe's show on BBC Radio 1 on 6 July 2009 and was then made available on iTunes to download the following day. Physical copies of the single were made available on 17 August, one week before the release of the album. The vinyl was made available in Oxfam shops and sold with a download code for fans to get a free MP3 version of the song.

Thee Faction are a British garage rock/garage punk band from Surrey, England, noted for their explicit socialist agenda. They refer to their music, which incorporates elements of garage rock, pop and rhythm and blues as "Socialist RnB". Their album Up The Workers! was rated one of the Daily Mirror's top twenty albums of 2011.
Reverend and the Makers are an English rock band from Sheffield, South Yorkshire. The band is fronted by Jon McClure, nicknamed "The Reverend". Their debut album, The State of Things (2007), helped them gain success in Britain and spawned the UK top 10 single "Heavyweight Champion of the World". The band released their second album, A French Kiss in the Chaos (2009), which led to them being invited to support Oasis on their final tour, playing venues such as Wembley Stadium. The band's third studio album, @Reverend_Makers, was released in 2012, and their fourth studio album, ThirtyTwo, was released in 2014.
