She is one of four female players who competed in water polo at four Olympics. She is also a leading goalscorer in Olympic water polo history, with 31 goals.

Egypt won two medals during the course of the Games: Alaaeldin Abouelkassem earned silver in the men's foil, becoming the first competitor from an African nation to win a fencing medal, while Karam Gaber captured silver in the men's 84 kg Greco-Roman wrestling event. Two Egyptian weightlifters were awarded medals retroactively, after higher-ranked competitors were disqualified for doping: Abeer Abdelrahman took silver in the women's 75 kg event, while Tarek Yehia, received bronze in the men's 85 kg event. Among other achievements, Mostafa Mansour was the nation's first competitor in sprint canoeing while fencer Shaimaa El-Gammal became the first Egyptian female to appear in four editions of the Olympics.
The British Virgin Islands sent a delegation to compete at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom, which took place between 27 July to 12 August 2012. The country's participation in London marked its eighth appearance at the Summer Olympics since its debut in the 1984 Summer Olympics. The British Virgin Islands delegation included two track and field athletes, 100 meter sprinters J'maal Alexander and Tahesia Harrigan-Scott. Alexander failed to progress through the heats whilst Harrigan-Scott was eliminated in her event's quarterfinals.
Cape Verde competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics which were held in London, United Kingdom from 27 July to 12 August 2012. The country's participation at London marked its fifth appearance in the Summer Olympics since its debut in 1996. The delegation included Ruben Sança, a long-distance runner; Lidiane Lopes, a sprinter; and Adysângela Moniz, a judoka. Moniz and Sança were also selected as the flag bearers for the opening and closing ceremonies respectively. Of the three Cape Verdean athletes, only Moniz progressed further than the first round.

This marked the nation's eleventh appearance at the Summer Olympics since its debut in the 1964 Summer Olympics. The Chadian delegation included track and field athlete Hinikissia Ndikert and judoka Carine Ngarlemdana. She made her debut for the Sweden women's national football team in 2011 and won her 100th cap in 2019. Jakobsson represented her country in the 2013 edition of the UEFA Women's Championship, as well as at the 2011, 2015 and 2019 FIFA Women's World Cups. The Olympian delegation included two men and two women, one male and one female athlete in athletics and one male and one female athlete in swimming. Middle-distance runner Haley Nemra was honored as the national flag bearer at the opening ceremony. The Marshall Islands continued their streak of bringing home no medals.
Iván Rodríguez Padilla is a Puerto Rican former sprinter who competed in the 1956 Summer Olympics and in the 1960 Summer Olympics. He finished third in the 1959 Pan American Games 4×400 metres Relay. In the 1959 Pan American Games 400 metres Rodríguez finished fifth.

Aleksandar Stoyanov Kostadinov is an amateur Bulgarian Greco-Roman wrestler, who competes in the men's featherweight category. He won a bronze medal for his division at the 2012 European Wrestling Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. He is also a member of Slavia Litex Wrestling Club in Sofia, and is coached and trained by Bratan Tzenov.
Amer Hrustanović is an amateur Austrian Greco-Roman wrestler, who competes in the men's light heavyweight category. He holds both Austrian and Bosnian citizenship in order to compete internationally in wrestling, including the Olympic games. Hrustanovic is also a member of the wrestling team for AC Wals in Salzburg, and is coached and trained by Marco Haring Hannes.
Aarón Sarmiento Padilla is a Spanish sailor, who specialized in two-person dinghy class. He represented Spain, along with his partner Onán Barreiros, in two editions of the Olympic Games, and has also been training for the Royal Nautical Club of Gran Canaria throughout most of his sporting career under his personal coach and mentor Jorge Angulo. As of September 2013, Sarmiento is ranked no. 14 in the world for two-person dinghy class by the International Sailing Federation.
Javier Padilla is a Mexican sports shooter. He competed in the men's 50 metre free pistol event at the 1976 Summer Olympics.
