Sonali Chakravarti Banerjee is an Indian academic who is the Vice Chancellor of West Bengal State University. She also served as the Vice Chancellor of University of Calcutta. [2]
Banerjee completed her Bachelor's studies from Presidency College,Kolkata (as a graduating student of the University of Calcutta),and subsequently,earned her postgraduate and doctoral degrees from the University of Calcutta. [3] In August 2017 she was appointed as the vice-chancellor of the University of Calcutta,after the then vice-chancellor Suranjan Das was transferred to Jadavpur University. [4] She is the first lady Vice Chancellor of the University of Calcutta.
She is a daughter of Bengali poet Nirendranath Chakravarty and freedom fighter Sushama Chakravarti. She is married to Alapan Bandyopadhyay,who was the former Chief Secretary to the Government of West Bengal and now serving as the Chief Advisor to the Chief Minister of West Bengal. [5]

Sir Muhammad Azizul Haque,KCSI,CIE,also known as Muhammad Azizul Huq or Mohammad Azizul Huque,was a Bengali lawyer,writer and public servant. He studied at Presidency College and University Law College in Calcutta. He worked to better the condition of Muslim people,primarily in the rural farmlands. This led him to work with Sher-e-Bangla A.K. Fazlul Haque,Sir Abdulla Suhrawardy,Sir Salimullah and Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He remained friends with many throughout his life.

Kazi Nazrul University (KNU) is a public state research university located in Asansol,West Bengal. The CM Mamata Banerjee laid the foundation stone on 10 January 2013. The university has been named after the poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. The university was established under the Kazi Nazrul University Act,2012. Anuradha Mukherjee was appointed as the first vice-chancellor of the university. In 2018 in a special convocation the university honored Ex Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina with honorary Doctorate of Literature.
On 16 September 2014,peaceful demonstrations by students took place in front of the administrative building of the University,demanding an investigation into the alleged molestation of a female student in campus. After several unsuccessful attempts at dialogue with the authorities,the students gheraoed some personnel of the university authority,including Vice-Chancellor Abhijit Chakrabarti. The vice-chancellor called the police,who dispersed the students by force in the early hours of 17 September. This triggered a wave of protests by students and teachers.

Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee is a former chief justice of the High Court of Karnataka. He was appointed as the interim Vice-Chancellor of Presidency University,Kolkata in September 2023. In July 2023,the Governor of West Bengal appointed him as the interim Vice-Chancellor of Rabindra Bharati University.

Alapan Bandyopadhyay is an ex-Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer and former Chief Secretary of State for the Government of West Bengal. He is Chief Advisor for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee since 1 June 2021. He took over from IAS officer Rajiva Sinha,in the year 2020,starting his tenure as Chief Secretary of West Bengal.
