Bruce Parry Presents Amazon - Tribe - Songs for Survival is a double album released by Kensaltown Records in support of a tribal peoples charity.
The album was released in support of Survival International, the human rights organisation for tribal peoples. The themes of the album are life around the Amazon River and other remote tribal areas. These topics are covered in the Bruce Parry television series Tribe and Amazon . All of the music on the album is exclusive and was written for the project. Many of the songs on the record contain samples recorded by Bruce Parry whilst living with tribal communities. The first track on the album by supergroup Apparatjik was used for the credits roll on the BBC series Amazon with Bruce Parry.
The album was released digitally on 15 September 2008, which was also the debut of the Amazon series on BBC 2, and then on 13 October on CD. [1] It is available from retailers such as iTunes, [2] Play.com [3] and Amazon.co.uk. [4]
Every track on the album is exclusive, and was written especially for the project. Around £45,000 has been raised for Survival International through album purchases.
The album was put together by Molly Oldfield, daughter of musician Mike Oldfield. [5] She and Bruce Parry took samples from all the tribes (taken from BBC's Tribe) and sent them all the musicians involved on the project. Each one chose their favourite sample around which to write a song. Other musicians preferred to write a straightforward song without using the samples but all are inspired by the issues facing indigenous communities all over the world. The first track to be received was by Hot Chip (Molly was at Oxford University with Joe Goddard) who sampled music from the Babongo tribe in Gabon, Africa. Mike Oldfield's "Song for Survival" was composed in 2007, he sampled the islanders of Anuta singing in church, this was the second track to be received for the project.
"Ferreting", the theme to Amazon, is performed by Apparatjik, a supergroup composed of Guy Berryman, Magne Furuholmen, Jonas Bjerre (of Coldplay, a-ha and Mew respectively) and Martin Terefe. [6] This was the first release by the group who have now released two full albums.
Michael Gordon Oldfield is a British musician, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter best known for his debut studio album Tubular Bells (1973), which became an unexpected critical and commercial success and propelled him to worldwide fame. Though primarily a guitarist, Oldfield is known for playing a range of instruments which include keyboards, percussion, and vocals. He has adopted a range of musical styles throughout his career, including progressive rock, world, folk, classical, electronic, ambient, and new age music.
Magne Furuholmen is a Norwegian musician and visual artist. He was named Knight First Class of the Order of St. Olav by King Harald for his services to Norwegian music and his international success. Furuholmen, better known to music fans by his stage name Mags, is the keyboardist of the synthpop/rock band A-ha, and co-wrote hits such as "Take On Me", "Stay on These Roads", "Manhattan Skyline", "Cry Wolf", "Forever Not Yours", "Analogue ", "Minor Earth Major Sky", "Touchy!", "You Are the One", "Move To Memphis" and "Foot of the Mountain". The band A-ha has sold more than 50 million albums worldwide.
Guy Berryman is a Scottish musician, record producer, and the bassist for the bands Coldplay and Apparatjik. Although Berryman is left-handed, he plays the bass right-handed.
Jonas Bjerre Terkelsbøl is a musician and visual artist from Copenhagen, Denmark, best known as the lead singer of Danish rock band Mew. Bjerre creates animated videos for Mew's live shows. He has an unusually high pitched voice, which has helped contribute to Mew's unique sound, and earned him a Danish Music Award for Danish Male Singer in 2006. He went to school at the international school of Bernadotteskolen and was a student of Aurehøj Amtsgymnasium.
"Clocks" is a song by British rock band Coldplay. It was written and composed as a collaboration among all the members of the band, for their second album A Rush of Blood to the Head. Built around a piano riff, the song features cryptic lyrics concerning themes of contrast and urgency. Several remixes of the track exist, and its riff has been widely sampled.

She provided a number of backing vocal tracks for major performing artists in the 1960s, most notably in her duet with Mick Jagger on the Rolling Stones song "Gimme Shelter". Clayton is featured in 20 Feet from Stardom, the Oscar-winning documentary about background singers and their contributions to the music industry. In 2013, she released The Best of Merry Clayton, a compilation of her favorite songs.

Apparatjik are a multi-national band formed in 2008. The band is a supergroup that consists of bassist Guy Berryman from Coldplay, guitarist/keyboardist Magne Furuholmen from A-ha, singer/guitarist Jonas Bjerre of Mew and drummer/producer Martin Terefe. The band's name literal translation is "agent of the apparatus". Apparatjik is based on apparatchik, which is a word of Russian origin and is used to describe "an official or bureaucrat in any organization" but has in the past had other meanings, including "Communist agent or spy".
The Salvation is the debut album of Brooklyn rapper Skyzoo. The album was released on September 29, 2009, via Jamla Records, founded by 9th Wonder, which is a sub-label of Duck Down Records. Upon release Skyzoo described it as autobiographical and his most personal work. The second single "Army of Hardcore" was released on the same day as the album. It is the last studio album featuring Rick J. Jordan, who left in 2014 after being with the band since the beginning in 1993.
