Sonika Tandi (born 20 March 1997), known mononymously as Sonika, is an Indian field hockey player who plays as a midfielder for the Indian national team. [1] [2]
She was part of the Indian squad at the 2017 Women's Hockey Asia Cup which won the gold medal. [3] [4] [5]
Field hockey in India refers to two teams, the India men's national field hockey team and the India women's national field hockey team. It is one of the most popular sport in India, as it is one of the major team sports in which India has been historically successful.
The India men's national field hockey team represents India in international field hockey competitions, and is governed by Hockey India.
The Pakistan national field hockey team represents Pakistan in international field hockey. Having played its first match in 1948, it is administered by the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), the governing body for hockey in Pakistan. It has been a member of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) since 1948 and was founding member of the Asian Hockey Federation (ASHF), which was formed in 1958. Pakistan is one of the most successful national field hockey teams in the world with a record four Hockey World Cup wins.
The Indian women's national field hockey team represents India in international field hockey, and is governed by Hockey India. Nabhvarna are currently ranked 9th in the FIH World Rankings, and are ranked as the second best team in Asia. They have won the gold medals at the 2002 Commonwealth Games and 1982 Asian Games. They have also won the Women's Asia Cup twice, i.e. in 2004 and 2017. They also won the Asian Champions Trophy 2016 and 2023.
Parattu Raveendran Sreejesh is a former Indian field hockey player who played as a goalkeeper and former captain of the Indian national team. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest goal keepers in the history of hockey. Sreejesh played a vital role in the Indian national team's bronze medal wins at the 2020 and 2024 Summer Olympics.
Rani Rampal, known mononymously as Rani, is an Indian field hockey player and coach. At the age of 15, she was the youngest player in the national team which participated in the 2010 World Cup. She has completed her schooling but was not able to get the graduate degree due to practice sessions and matches which were lined up. She plays forward on her team. She has played 212 international matches and scored 134 goals. She is currently the Captain for Indian Women's Hockey Team. She is also well known as a striker who often doubles up as mid-fielder. She has a great fascination with CWG. In 2020, the Government of India honoured her with the Padma Shri.
Ritu Rani is an Indian former field hockey player, who represented the India women's national field hockey team. She also served as the captain of the national team. She plays as a halfback. Rani has led the team to medal winning performances most notably the bronze at the 2014 Asian Games. Also under her captaincy the team qualified for the Olympics after 36 years after finishing fifth in the 2014–15 Women's FIH Hockey World League Semifinals.
Rajani Etimarpu is an Indian field hockey player who represents the India women's national field hockey team. She hails from Andhra Pradesh and plays as a goalkeeper. She represents Railway Sports Promotion Board in the domestic tournaments.
Deep Grace Ekka is an Indian former field hockey player, who represented the India national field hockey team. She has been selected for Arjun award in 2022.
Harmanpreet Singh is an Indian field hockey player who plays as a defender for and captains the Indian national team. He is a penalty corner specialist and is regarded as one of the best drag flickers in the world. He was the captain of the Indian field hockey team that won the bronze medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. This was his second bronze medal in three appearances at the Olympics.
Namita Toppo is an Indian former field hockey player. She hails from Sundargarh District of Odisha. On 27 December 2020, she was conferred with the 28th Eklavya award. Toppo was honoured for her performance from April 1, 2018 to March 31, 2020 at both national and international levels.

At the club level, she plays for Sports Authority of India. Hmarzote was a part of the 18-member squad that represented India at the 2018 World Cup. At the Asian Games that followed, she became the first sportsperson from Mizoram to win an Asian medal after she won silver.

The 2021–22 Women's FIH Pro League was the third edition of the Women's FIH Pro League, a field hockey championship for women's national teams. The tournament started in October 2021 and finished in June 2022.
The 2022 Women's FIH Hockey Nations Cup was the first edition of the Women's FIH Hockey Nations Cup, the annual qualification tournament for the Women's FIH Pro League organised by the International Hockey Federation. The tournament was held at the Estadio Betero in Valencia, Spain from 11 to 17 December 2022.
India competed at the 2022 Commonwealth Games at Birmingham, England from 28 July to 8 August 2022. It was India's 18th appearance at the Commonwealth Games.
