Sonny Mignacca (born January 4, 1974) is a Canadian retired professional ice hockey goaltender.

Playing career

Mignacca played major junior with the Medicine Hat Tigers of the Western Hockey League, beginning in 1990–91. In 1993–94, he was awarded the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy as league MVP after posting a 3.27 GAA and a 26-23-5 record. Mignacca was drafted two years prior by the Vancouver Canucks 213th overall in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft.

After graduating from major junior, Mignacca was assigned to the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League, the Canucks' minor league affiliate. Two years later, he joined the Tallahassee Tiger Sharks of the East Coast Hockey League. He spent one season in Tallahassee before going overseas to play in the British Ice Hockey Superleague for two seasons. Mignacca returned to North America and played one last season in the Western Professional Hockey League with the Tupelo T-Rex before retiring from professional hockey.

The Calgary Hitmen are a major junior ice hockey team based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The Hitmen play in the Central Division of the Western Hockey League (WHL). They play their home games at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Bret "The Hitman" Hart, a local-born professional wrestler, was a founding owner as well as the inspiration for the team's name. Willie Desjardins

The Everett Silvertips won the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy, after having the best record in the WHL during the regular season. The Medicine Hat Tigers won the President's Cup, defeating the Vancouver Giants in seven games. The Giants captured the 2007 Memorial Cup as tournament hosts, defeating the Tigers in the championship game.

Ed Chynoweth Cup Western Hockey League trophy

The Ed Chynoweth Cup is an ice hockey club championship trophy awarded to the playoff champion of the Western Hockey League (WHL). Originally called the President's Cup when the league was founded in 1966, the trophy was renamed in 2007 to honour Ed Chynoweth's long service to junior hockey in Canada. The WHL champion earns a berth into the Memorial Cup tournament, Canada's major junior championship. The Kamloops Blazers have won the most championships with six, followed by the Medicine Hat Tigers with five. The Spokane Chiefs were the first team to win the renamed trophy in the 2007–08 WHL season. The current (2018–19) holders of the Ed Chynoweth Cup are the Prince Albert Raiders.
