Sophie Coldwell (born 25 February 1995) is a British triathlete. She competed in the women's event at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. [1] and has achieved several medals in International Triathlon Union (ITU) and European Triathlon Union (ETU) Championships. [2] Sophie Coldwell is based in Loughborough, England. On the 26th June 2022, she won her 1st major medal when helping Team GB to Silver in the mixed team relay. She finished in third place in the 2022 Super League Triathlon Championship Series. [3]

Early life

Coldwell was born on 25 February 1995 in Gravesend, Kent but grew up in Keyworth, Nottingham. [4]

Coldwell was a member of Charnwood Athletics Club and Nottingham Leander Swimming Club. She moved to Loughborough to attend university and graduated from Loughborough University in 2017 with a degree in Human Biology. [5]

Career

In 2012 Coldwell came fourth at the European Championships and was the National Champion and National Super Series champion. In 2013 she represented Team GB at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival winning mixed team relay bronze in Sydney. [6]

In 2014, she finished fourth at the World Junior Championships.The 2017 triathlon season saw Coldwell win her first global medal, with bronze in the U23 event at the ITU World Triathlon Grand Final Rotterdam, [7] and a fourth-place finish at the ITU World Triathlon Yokohama. [8] She also finished second at the 2017 Kitzbühel ETU Triathlon European Championships. [9]

Coldwell represented Team England at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast finishing sixth in the elite women's individual race. She went on to win at the 2018 Tiszaujvaros ITU Triathlon World Cup [10] and the 2018 Tartu ETU Triathlon European Championships. [11] The 2019 season saw Coldwell win a gold medal at the 2019 Cagliari ITU Triathlon World Cup. [12]

Coldwell was also part of the British Mixed Relay teams that won gold at the 2019 Accenture World Triathlon Mixed Relay Series Nottingham [13] and silver in the ITU World Triathlon Mixed Relay Series Edmonton [14]

Coldwell also participates in Super League Triathlon. She finished 5th in the 2019, [15] 9th in 2021, [16] and 3rd in 2022. [17]

In the 2022 season, she has enjoyed top 5 finishes at 3 events, and is currently in 3rd in the overall standings. [18]

She competed at the 2022 Commonwealth Games where she came 4th in the women's event. [19]

Non Rhiannydd Stanford is a British former professional triathlete, representing Great Britain and Wales at international level. Stanford was the ITU World Champion in 2013, part of the Great Britain world champion mixed relay team in 2012 and represented Team GB at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, where she finished fourth behind teammate and housemate Vicky Holland. Hindered thereafter by recurrent injuries, she struggled to repeat the dominant form of her early years. In her final year of competition, 2022, however she found an exceptional final flourish of form; she anchored Wales to silver in the team event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, her first Commonwealth medal and her first major championship medal since 2015 World Triathlon mixed relay bronze. One week later, in her final major Olympic distance triathlon race, Stanford won her first and only European championship.

Jessica Learmonth is a British triathlete. Learmonth is a European, Commonwealth, Olympic and World Triathlon Series medal winner based in Leeds, England where she trains at the Leeds Triathlon Centre. She won the European Triathlon Championship in 2017 and took silver in 2018. She competed in the women's event and the mixed relay at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, winning silver medals in both disciplines. Learmonth won silver in the 2019 World Triathlon Series.

The 2019 ITU World Triathlon Series was the 11th season of the World Triathlon Series, the top level international series for triathlon, since its establishment in 2009. The season consisted of eight pairs of triathlon races for both a men's and woman's competition, beginning on 8 March in Abu Dhabi, and concluding on 1 September with the grand final at Lausanne, Switzerland. The season also contained five mixed relays as part of the Mixed Relay Series which offers national teams qualifying points for the mixed team relay event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Thomas Bishop is a British triathlete. He has represented England at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and finished in 7th place in the 2017 ITU World Triathlon Series overall standings. Originally from Derby, Bishop graduated from the University of Leeds and is now based in the city, training at the Leeds Triathlon Centre. He was part of the British mixed relay team that won gold at the 2016 Lisbon ETU European Championships and has achieved a number of podiums on both the international and European triathlon circuits, including silver at the ITU World Triathlon Abu Dhabi 2017.
