Sophie and the Giants, also abbreviated as SATG, [1] is an English music artist founded in Sheffield [2] in 2015. [3]

History

Formation and early years (2015–2018)

The group was founded by singer Sophie Scott: at first, the only goal of the band was just to practise music with the help of amateur musician friends, [1] but in the spring of 2017 [4] Scott decided to involve drummer Chris Hill, bassist Bailey Stapledon and guitarist Toby Holmes, who were three fellow students at the Guildford Music College at the time, [5] [6] to "take this more seriously and be like a proper band". [1]

They later moved to Sheffield, where they started playing at gigs, mixing cover versions of Supertramp and Chris Isaak with original songs. [4] April 2018 saw the release of their first single, Monsters, followed by the Adolescence EP in October, which included the songs Bulldog, Space Girl and Waste My Air. [7]

Success (2019–present)

SATG started 2019 by playing for BBC Radio Sheffield on 12 January; [8] on 15 March, they released the new single The Light, [4] which was chosen by Codemasters for the trailer of the then-forthcoming racing game Grid. [9] The song was also used by Vodafone for advertising in Germany. [10]

In early June, Antonia Pooles replaced Stapledon. [4] Later that summer, the band played at the Reading and Leeds Festivals [11] and at Glastonbury Festival. [12] [13] A new single, Break the Silence, was released in August, [4] followed by Runaway in November, [14] and in December SATG played again for BBC Radio Sheffield, this time live from Maida Vale Studios. [15]

In early 2020, SATG worked with German DJ Purple Disco Machine on the song Hypnotized , which was released on 8 April, [16] and the sound of which was heavily inspired by the italo disco music genre. [17] Hypnotized was very successful across Europe where it was awarded three platinum records; [18] it was followed by the new single Right Now, released in February 2021. [19] [18] Sophie and the Giants collaborated with Italian singer Michele Bravi on the song "Falene" with Sophie singing in Italian. The song was released on 18 June by Universal Music. [20]

In 2022 Sophie became a solo artist and completed a EU tour with DJ Dan Fraser. SATG then went on to release We Own The Night as a solo artist, followed by DNA ft. MEARSY and Paradise ft. Purple Disco Machine.

In 2002, Tikovoi released an album under the name "Trash Palace".

Gigwise was a British online music news site that featured music news, photos, album reviews, music festivals, concert tickets and video content. Founded in June 2001, the site was based in London, England.

"Pjanoo" is a keyboard-based house track by the Swedish DJ and producer Eric Prydz. It received moderate airplay amongst British radio stations, being heavily used by BBC Radio 1 in advertisements for their "Radio 1 Big Weekend" and "Weekend in Ibiza" events. The single peaked at number six on the Swedish Singles Chart. "Pjanoo" found success outside Sweden, particularly in the United Kingdom, where it peaked at number two on the UK Singles Chart and topped the country's Dance chart for ten non-consecutive weeks.

"Mi fiderò" is a song recorded by Italian singer-songwriter Marco Mengoni, with featured vocals by Madame. The song was released to Italian radio stations on 31 December 2021 as the third single from Mengoni's sixth studio album Materia (Terra).
