The SouthWest Metro Intermediate District #288 is a merged school district in Minnesota, United States. SouthWest Metro is the fourth Intermediate District in the State of Minnesota. [1]
The district was formed on July 1, 2016 by member public school districts: [2]
SouthWest Metro was given the required statutory authorization during a Special Session of the Minnesota Legislature in 2015. [3] Following the authorization, the member districts of the SouthWest Metro Educational Cooperative voted to dissolve the Educational Cooperative and reorganize as an Intermediate School District. Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose Independent School District #877 was not a member of the Educational Cooperative, but became a founding member of the Intermediate District by unanimous approval of the ten Educational Cooperative member school districts.
The SouthWest Metro Educational Cooperative #6088 was the precursor to the SouthWest Metro Intermediate District #288. The Cooperative was formed on July 1, 2013, as a joint powers cooperative school district. The Educational Cooperative resulted from the blending of The Minnesota River Valley Special Educational Cooperative (MRVSEC) which was formed in 1968 and the Carver-Scott Educational Cooperative (CSEC) which was formed in 1976. MRVSEC provided special education services to public school districts in and around Scott County Minnesota during its 45-year existence. CSEC was originally formed as a vocational cooperative by three public school districts: Eastern Carver County Schools (known as Chaska Public Schools at that time), Shakopee Public Schools, and Waconia Public Schools.
During the early 1980s, CSEC merged with the Minnesota River Valley Special Education Cooperative (MRVSEC), which had provided special education services to the public school districts in the greater Carver County Minnesota area since its formation in 1969.
CSEC provided Career and Technical Education, Alternative Education, Adult Basic Education, and Special Education prior to its merger with MRVSEC and the formation of the SouthWest Metro Educational Cooperative in 2013. Darren Kermes was the Executive Director of both MRVSEC and CSEC at the time of their merger and subsequently served as the Executive Director of SouthWest Metro Educational Cooperative.

Carver County is a county in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The county is mostly farmland and wilderness with many unincorporated townships. As of the 2020 census, the population was 106,922. Its county seat is Chaska. Carver County is named for explorer Jonathan Carver, who in 1766–67, traveled from Boston to the Minnesota River and wintered among the Sioux near the site of New Ulm. Carver County is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington, MN-WI Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Chaska is a city in and the county seat of Carver County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 27,810 at the 2020 census. An outer ring suburb of the Twin Cities, Chaska is home to the Hazeltine National Golf Club and is known for its historic downtown area located on a bend of the Minnesota River. The City of Chaska merged with Chaska Township in 2006. The city still has some remaining agricultural land.

Chanhassen is a city about 16 miles southwest of Minneapolis in Carver County and partially in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States. Located in the southwest Minneapolis–Saint Paul suburbs, there is a mix of suburban residential neighborhoods and rural landscapes. The population was 25,947 at the 2020 census, with a 2024 estimate of 26,469.

The numbering plan area (NPA) includes cities such as Bloomington, Eden Prairie, Edina and Minnetonka. It was created in 2000 along with area code 763 when they were carved out of area code 612, which now only contains Minneapolis and a few inner-ring locales.
The Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge is a 14,000-acre (5,666 ha) National Wildlife Refuge in eastern and central Minnesota. Located just south of the city of Minneapolis, it is one of fourteen Regional Priority Urban Wildlife Refuges in the nation. Many parts of the Refuge are near large establishments of the Twin Cities; the Bloomington Education and Visitor Center and two trailheads are located just blocks from the Mall of America, the Wilkie Unit is just east of Valleyfair and the Louisville Swamp Unit is just south of Minnesota Renaissance Festival.
SouthWest Transit is a public transportation agency that is based in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. The agency was formed in 1986 when the southwest Minneapolis suburbs of Chaska, Chanhassen, and Eden Prairie chose to opt out of the Metropolitan Transit Commission transit system in accordance with Minnesota State Statutes. Under a joint powers agreement between the three cities, they created their own transit system, SouthWest Metro Transit. In 2023, the system had a ridership of 446,400, or about 1,300 per weekday as of the fourth quarter of 2023.

The Missota Conference was an athletic conference for high schools in the greater Twin Cities area in Minnesota. The league disbanded following the 2013-14 school year.
Chanhassen High School (CNHS) is a four-year comprehensive public high school located in Chanhassen, Minnesota, United States, a southwestern suburb of Minneapolis. Construction of the school was approved by voters in 2006 in response to rapidly growing enrollment in Carver County and overcrowding at Chaska High School, the district's other high school.

Claire A. Robling is a Minnesota politician and former member of the Minnesota Senate representing District 35, which included portions of Carver, Le Sueur, Scott and Sibley counties in the southern Twin Cities metropolitan area. A Republican, she was first elected to the Senate in 1996, and reelected in 2000, 2002, 2006 and 2010. She served as an assistant minority leader from 2003 to 2006.

KleinBank was headquartered in Chaska, Minnesota and operated 21 bank branches. In 2019, KleinBank was the largest family-owned state bank in Minnesota with assets over $1.9 billion. After being acquired the bank branches were rebranded as Old National Bank.
Metro West Conference is a high school athletic conference in Minnesota. The name is based on the location of the schools in the western part of the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metro area. The conference began in fall 2014. The conference was announced on March 5, 2013, by seven public schools. In September 2013, the Minnesota State High School League assigned Benilde-St. Margaret's, a private school, to the conference over the objections of the other schools. Richfield High School left in 2019. Kennedy left in 2022.
Shakopee High School is a four-year public high school as of fall 2018 located in Shakopee, Minnesota, United States. The school district serves nearly 8,380 students in Shakopee, Savage, Prior Lake, and the Jackson, Louisville, and Sand Creek Townships. The district is located in one of the fastest-growing suburbs in the Twin Cities. The high school received a major expansion and was reopened after a summer of construction in the fall of 2018.
Coney Island of the West is an island in Lake Waconia in the U.S. state of Minnesota that was developed into a summer resort with its heyday from the 1880s to the 1920s. It continued operating up to 1960. The 31-acre (13 ha) island is part of Waconia Township just .5 miles (0.80 km) off the shore from the city of Waconia. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 for its local significance in the themes of commerce and entertainment/recreation. The island site, with its ruins of hotels, cottages, and parks, was nominated for being one of Minnesota's most popular early resorts, and an early expression of the trend of urban dwellers journeying to Minnesota's lakes and parks for recreation. Lambert Naegele, Reinhold Zeglin, and Emile Amblard developed resort buildings and attractions on the island. The best preserved building from this era, however, is the Emile Amblard Guest House on the mainland.
Kelly D. Holstine is an American educator, teacher trainer, public speaker, writer, Equity 2.0 consultant, and the owner of WordHaven BookHouse, LLC, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. She was formerly an English teacher at the Tokata Learning Center, an alternative high school in Shakopee, Minnesota, and an adjunct professor at Augsburg University. She was named the 2018/2019 Minnesota Teacher of the Year by Education Minnesota.
Noah McCourt is an American autistic disability rights activist, politician and social critic who was honored by the United Nations in 2016. McCourt is a former member of the Minnesota Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities and the State Advisory Council on Mental Health, where he served as the chair of the State Subcommittee on Children's Mental Health.
