Daybreak (community) master-planned community in South Jordan, Utah

Daybreak is a master-planned community over 4,000 acres (16 km²) in size that began construction in 2004 under the direction of land development company Kennecott Land in South Jordan, Utah. In 2016, the balance of the land holding was sold to Minneapolis-based investment firm Värde Partners, and a new development company called Daybreak Communities was formed to continue development of the project. The community is expected to continue building for the next 18 to 20 years. When completed, it could contain more than 20,000 residential units and approximately 9.1 million square feet of commercial space.

Description

The station is located at 10605 South Grandville Avenue (5600 West). Since its construction, the station has only been accessible from the southwest end of West South Jordan Parkway, but with continued construction of the Mountain View Corridor (SR-85), it will eventually be accessible via the Mountain View Corridor/West South Jordan Parkway interchange just to the southwest. When the station was constructed, there was almost nothing in its immediate vicinity. The station has a free Park and Ride lot with 200 parking spaces available, but there are plans for a total of about 400 parking spaces. [1] [4] [Note 1] In the original planning stages, the station was referred to as "Daybreak North Station", but later changed to the current name. [4] [7] [3] The station is part of a railway right of way that was created specifically for the southwestern end of the Red Line. The station opened August 7, 2011 as part of the Red Line (Mid-Jordan) and is operated by the Utah Transit Authority. [2]

Mountain View Corridor highway in Utah

The Mountain View Corridor is a freeway under construction in northern Utah that will run along the western periphery of Salt Lake County and south into northwest Utah County. Except for the last several miles on its southern end the Mountain View Corridor is numerically designated as State Route 85 (SR-85) in the Utah state highway system. The entire Mountain View Corridor will be maintained by the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT).

Right-of-way (transportation) right to make a "way" (as in a type of easement) over a piece of land

A right-of-way (ROW) is a right to make a way over a piece of land, usually to and from another piece of land. A right of way is a type of easement granted or reserved over the land for transportation purposes, such as a highway, public footpath, rail transport, canal, as well as electrical transmission lines, oil and gas pipelines. A right-of-way can be used to build a bike trail. A right-of-way is reserved for the purposes of maintenance or expansion of existing services with the right-of-way. In the case of an easement, it may revert to its original owners if the facility is abandoned.

All of UTA's TRAX and FrontRunner trains and stations, streetcars and streetcar stops, and all fixed route buses are compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act and are therefore accessible to those with disabilities. [8] Signage at the stations, on the passenger platforms, and on the trains clearly indicate accessibility options. In accordance with the Utah Clean Air Act and UTA ordinance, "smoking is prohibited on UTA vehicles as well as UTA bus stops, TRAX stations, and FrontRunner stations". [9]

Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 American law

The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination based on disability. It affords similar protections against discrimination to Americans with disabilities as the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which made discrimination based on race, religion, sex, national origin, and other characteristics illegal. In addition, unlike the Civil Rights Act, the ADA also requires covered employers to provide reasonable accommodations to employees with disabilities, and imposes accessibility requirements on public accommodations.

Bus connections

Bus routes are current as of Change Day, August 17, 2014. South Jordan Parkway is one very few TRAX stations that, as of August 2014, does not have any direct bus connections, nor any bus stops in close proximity. However, with the westward population expansion in the Salt Lake Valley and the recently completed Mountain View Corridor highway the need for bus service in this area will increase.

Notes

  1. On July 1, 2013 UTA announced that beginning immediately it was starting a one year pilot program involving most of its TRAX and FrontRunner Park and Ride lots. The purpose of the new program is to make rider connections with the Salt Lake City International Airport more convenient by avoiding the need to park at the airport. The program allows UTA patrons to park for an "unlimited amount of time" in the designated Park and Ride lots. In addition, UTA will allow free parking in all of its parking garages. Previous UTA policy limited parking to no more than 24 hours, except at its parking garages. As part of the year-long pilot program, "UTA will measure parking lot usage and monitor costs, maintenance requirements, impacts to snow removal and security issues before determining if the program will be extended." There are eight Park and Ride lots that are excluded from this test program and the 24-hour time limit will still apply to these lots. South Jordan Parkway Station's lot is specifically included in this test program. [5] Notwithstanding permission to park for extended periods in the applicable Park and Ride Lots, updated signage at the stations advises that the UTA Transit Police request that they be notified anytime a car is parked in one of the lots for more than seven days.
On July 3, 2014 UTA announced that it had extended the free parking pilot program for another year, but was removing two stations from the program. [6]
