The Mountain View Corridor is a freeway under construction in northern Utah that will run along the western periphery of Salt Lake County and south into northwest Utah County. Except for the last several miles on its southern end the Mountain View Corridor is numerically designated as State Route 85 (SR-85) [1] in the Utah state highway system. The entire Mountain View Corridor is maintained by the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT).
Mountain View Corridor is an arterial road that runs roughly parallel to Bangerter Highway (SR-154) one to four miles to the west, built to meet the demand of the growing cities in western Salt Lake and Utah counties.
Mountain View Corridor is currently split into two segments. The southern segment starts at SR-73 in Saratoga Springs and runs north before curving east to a junction with Redwood Road, at which point the segment ends and the road continues east as 2100 North (SR-194).
Currently, drivers wishing to continue north on Mountain View must take Redwood Road north to Porter Rockwell Boulevard, which connects to the northern segment. UDOT is currently building a connection between the two segments, and it is expected to be completed in 2026 [2] . The connection will be a controlled-access highway.
The northern segment starts at Porter Rockwell Boulevard, where it travels northwest to 13400 South at about 4800 West in Riverton and then continues north again to 12600 South. From 12600 South it curves northwest again, crossing Daybreak Parkway (at about 11700 South) in Daybreak—a neighborhood of South Jordan—to the Old Bingham Highway (at about 10200 South) in West Jordan, and then curves slightly back to the northeast until it reaches 9000 South just west of 5600 West.
From 9000 South it heads north, crossing over 8200 South, until 7800 South where it curves northwest to 7000 South at about 6400 West. From 7000 South it proceeds north, crossing 6200 South, to 5400 South (SR-173). From 5400 South it curves northeast again until it reaches 4100 South in West Valley City at about 5700 West and heads north again, crossing 3500 South (SR-171), to a junction with SR-201.
From SR-201 it continues north and ends at California Avenue in Salt Lake City. Future development plans will have it continue past California Avenue and curve northwest once again before ending at a junction with Interstate 80 at about 6100 West in Salt Lake City (a few miles west of the Salt Lake City International Airport).
Plans call for three phases of construction. Upon final completion, the freeway will have five lanes in each direction, including a high-occupancy/toll (HOT) lane. Some sections will also include two-lane frontage roads on both sides of the freeway.
Phase One includes constructing either the outside lanes or two one-way frontage roads for each section of the entire length of the Mountain View Corridor, but not all at the same time. Phase One construction is being completed on the various sections as the need exists and funding permits. For the "outside lanes" sections the two outside lanes of the freeway are built in each direction. At each future interchange the roadways curve out to the edges of the right of way where future off-ramps of the freeway will be, creating two one-way intersections. For the "frontage roads" sections, two one-way frontage roads will be on either side of the planned freeway lanes. Two one-way intersections will also be created at each future interchange, just as they will be for the "outside lanes" sections, except that the future off-ramps and on-ramps will connect with the frontage roads prior to and after the interchanges, respectively. (Such frontage roads and interchanges are often referred to as Texas style.) Frontage roads will be built between Old Bingham Highway and Porter Rockwell Boulevard, as well as the 2100 North spur. The remaining sections will have the outside lanes built in Phase One.
Phase Two is where the actual freeway is constructed as needs require and funding permits. By building either the outside lanes or frontage roads in the unique manner that has been done in Phase One preserved space in the middle to build overpasses and the actual freeway lanes themselves where only the frontage roads were constructed. Also, having been built the way they were, there will be minimal traffic interruption while Phase Two is completed.
Phase Three will widen the freeway from two lanes to five in each direction (with one of those lanes provisioned as an HOT lane), again as the need exists and funding permits. [3]
In mid-2010, Utah County planners discussed future plans for a freeway in Utah County from Lehi to Santaquin along the west side of SR-68 west of Utah Lake. It has been speculated that this could become part of the Mountain View Corridor project. [4]
The first sections of Mountain View Corridor opened for traffic in a design of separated two lane carriageways with signal controlled at-grade split intersections, to be upgraded later.

The environmental impact statement for the freeway was completed in November 2008, [5] leaving funding for the highway as the biggest remaining obstacle. Previous proposals included raising the state fuel tax or tolling the new road as a public/private partnership, an issue that became highly contentious. [6] Ultimately, the state legislature decided to issue bonds to fund the freeway, thereby committing future tax receipts to pay for it. [7] The first phase of construction began in mid-2010 and finished by December 15, 2012. [8] [9]
Construction on the spur known as 2100 North, which will connect the eventual freeway with Interstate 15, began in late 2010. This spur, which initially travels as far west as Redwood Road (SR-68), opened September 24, 2011. [10] [11] During Phase Two, this spur will be extended further west to the future freeway.
Construction on two miles of frontage roads in Herriman between Rosecrest Drive and 12600 South has been completed and this portion opened for traffic on June 2, 2012. An additional seven miles of frontage road is nearly complete and is anticipated to be open for use on October 13, 2012. These additional portions are will extend the usable roadway from Porter Rockwell Boulevard in Bluffdale north to the Old Bingham Highway in West Jordan. Six more miles of frontage road further north are also anticipated to be completed in late 2012. By the end of 2012 a total of fifteen miles of Phase One frontage roads, extending from Porter Rockwell Boulevard north to 5400 South in West Valley City, will be open for use, as well as associated bike lanes and trails. [12] In 2016 the access to 5400 South (SR-173) completed, and construction continued northbound. [13]
While no specific time table has been given by UDOT for the remainder of the overall project, it is anticipated to be fully completed by 2030. [12]
As of 2021, Mountain View Corridor is entirely in Stage 1 of the construction plan. Funding has been given to convert the segment running from Porter Rockwell Boulevard to Old Bingham Highway to a Stage 2 Freeway. The entire roadway that is currently built extends from Redwood Road (SR-68) to California Avenue. The section between 5400 South and 4100 South opened on November 18, 2017, at 3:00 pm. Opening celebrations included a fun run, an ugly sweater competition, and ceremonies where the Mayor of West Valley City spoke. [14] In October 2019, another portion in Utah County opened to traffic, connecting SR-73 and Pioneer Crossing (SR-145) to Redwood Road and 2100 North (SR-194). [15] The next section of Mountain View Corridor in Salt Lake County (4100 South to California Avenue) opened to traffic on June 17, 2021. [16] [17]
The segment between California Avenue and Interstate 80 is currently unfunded, and it is unknown when it will be completed. In September 2021, funding was allocated to build the Phase 1 iteration of the segment running from 2100 North to Porter Rockwell Boulevard. Until the 2100 North to Porter Rockwell segment of the corridor is completed in 2026, SR-85 will be routed along a concurrency with SR-68 between those roads.

U.S. Route 91 or U.S. Highway 91 is a 172.7-mile-long (277.9 km) north–south United States highway running from Brigham City, Utah, to Idaho Falls, Idaho, in the U.S. states of Idaho and Utah. Despite the "1" as the last digit in the number, US 91 is no longer a cross-country artery, as it has mostly been replaced by Interstate 15. The highway currently serves to connect the communities of the Cache Valley to I-15 and beyond. Prior to the mid-1970s, US 91 was an international commerce route from Long Beach, California, to the Canada–US border north of Sweetgrass, Montana. US 91 was routed on the main streets of most of the communities it served, including Las Vegas Boulevard in Las Vegas and State Street in Salt Lake City. From Los Angeles to Salt Lake, the route was built along the corridor of the Arrowhead Trail. A portion of the highway's former route in California is currently State Route 91.
The Legacy Highway is a proposed and partially completed freeway in northern Utah, United States, that is planned to eventually connect eastern Juab County with eastern Box Elder County, running along the west sides of Utah, Salt Lake, Davis, and Weber counties in between. Its purpose is to provide an alternate north–south transportation corridor to Interstate 15. It was proposed in 1996, but due to lawsuits over issues with the completeness of the environmental impact statement construction was delayed. Construction of one segment began in 2006. That segment, known as the Legacy Parkway, opened on 13 September 2008.
Transportation in Salt Lake City consists of a wide network of roads, an extensive bus system, a light rail system, and a commuter rail line. Although Salt Lake City, Utah, is a traditionally car-oriented city, the rapidly growing public transit system has a high number of riders for a city of its size, and public transit is widely supported by its residents and businesses.
State Route 201 (SR-201) is an east–west expressway and freeway located in Salt Lake County in the U.S. state of Utah. Colloquially known by some as the 21st South Freeway, the route serves as an alternative to Interstate 80 (I-80) through Salt Lake City. From the western terminus of the route west of Magna, the highway heads east through Kennecott Copper property as an expressway before running through the western suburbs of Salt Lake City as a freeway. Shortly after the route returns on a surface route, SR-201 terminates on its eastern end at State Street.
Interstate 215 (I-215), also known locally as the Belt Route, is the only auxiliary Interstate in the U.S. state of Utah, forming a three-quarters loop around Salt Lake City and many of its suburbs. The route begins at the mouth of Parley's Canyon at a junction with I-80 east of the city center, and heads south through the edge of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area's eastern suburbs of Millcreek, Holladay, and Cottonwood Heights. It continues west through Murray before turning north again, passing through the city's first-ring western suburbs of Taylorsville and West Valley City. It then enters North Salt Lake and Davis County for a short distance before reaching I-15 northwest of the city center.
State Route 154 (SR-154) or Bangerter Highway is a partial expressway running west and then north from Draper through western Salt Lake County, eventually reaching the Salt Lake City International Airport in Salt Lake City. Construction began in 1988 after planning for the highway began more than two decades prior. For the next ten years, portions of the highway opened as constructed, with the entire route finished by 1998.
Arizona State Route 303 or Loop 303, also known as the Bob Stump Memorial Parkway, is a freeway that serves the west part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The freeway, originally a two-lane rural highway, was maintained by Maricopa County until 2004 when the Arizona Department of Transportation again took control of upgrading the interim road to a freeway.
State Route 68 (SR-68) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Utah. It is a major thoroughfare throughout the Wasatch Front as it runs north–south for 70.8 miles (113.9 km), linking US-6 near Elberta to US-89 in Woods Cross. The route intersects several major freeways and highways in the Salt Lake City metropolitan area including I-215, I-80, and I-15. The route is more commonly referred to as Redwood Road, after the street it is routed along throughout Salt Lake County. The highway is also routed for a short distance along 500 South and 200 West in Bountiful and Camp Williams Road in Utah County. The route is a surface street for its entire length.
State Route 186 (SR-186) is a state highway entirely within Salt Lake City, capital of the U.S. state of Utah. It forms a quarter-beltway connecting US-89 and I-15 leading north from Salt Lake City to I-80 leading east; as such, it effectively forms the missing (non-freeway) quarter of the I-215 belt route around the city, though it does not directly connect to I-215 at the north end. Despite this beltway role, the route passes through downtown Salt Lake City because downtown is built right up to the northern mountains surrounding City Creek Canyon. The portion of the route connecting downtown to I-80 is a high-capacity street heavily used by commuters, especially those travelling to the University of Utah or between downtown and eastern neighborhoods, but the portion on Capitol Hill north of downtown is much narrower and has sharp turns around the Capitol grounds. The roadway runs 9.34 miles (15.03 km) along Victory Road, Columbus Street, 300 North, State Street, 400 South, 500 South, and Foothill Drive.
State Route 71 (SR-71) is a state highway completely within the Salt Lake City metropolitan area in the northern portion of the US state of Utah. It runs from SR-154 in the southwest side of the city to SR-186 in Downtown Salt Lake City. The route spans 22.47 miles (36.16 km) as it runs along portions of 12600 South, 12300 South, 900 East, and 700 East streets.
Interstate 80 (I-80) is a part of the Interstate Highway System that runs from San Francisco, California, to Teaneck, New Jersey. The portion of the highway in the US state of Utah is 197.51 miles (317.86 km) long through the northern part of the state. From west to east, I-80 crosses the state line from Nevada in Tooele County and traverses the Bonneville Salt Flats—which are a part of the larger Great Salt Lake Desert. It continues alongside the Wendover Cut-off—the corridor of the former Victory Highway—US Route 40 (US-40) and the Western Pacific Railroad Feather River Route. After passing the Oquirrh Mountains, I-80 enters the Salt Lake Valley and Salt Lake County. A short portion of the freeway is concurrent with I-15 through Downtown Salt Lake City. At the Spaghetti Bowl, I-80 turns east again into the mouth of Parleys Canyon and Summit County, travels through the mountain range, and intersects the eastern end of I-84 near Echo Reservoir before turning northeast toward the Wyoming border near Evanston. I-80 was built along the corridor of the Lincoln Highway and the Mormon Trail through the Wasatch Range. The easternmost section also follows the historical routes of the first transcontinental railroad and US-30S.
Interstate 15 (I-15) runs north–south in the U.S. state of Utah through the southwestern and central portions of the state, passing through most of the state's population centers, including St. George and those comprising the Wasatch Front: Provo–Orem, Salt Lake City, and Ogden–Clearfield. It is Utah's primary and only north–south interstate highway, as the vast majority of the state's population lives along its corridor; the Logan metropolitan area is the state's only Metropolitan Statistical Area through which I-15 does not pass. In 1998, the Utah State Legislature designated Utah's entire portion of the road as the Veterans Memorial Highway.
State Route 48 (SR-48) is a highway completely within Salt Lake County in northern Utah that connects Bangerter Highway with I-15 and US-89. The route is laid on portions of 7800 South, Redwood Road, and 7200 South. When the route was formed in 1927, it passed through the center of Midvale on Center Street. However, it was moved north onto 7200 South in 1965 to serve an exit of I-15.
State Route 269 (SR-269) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Utah that sits completely within Salt Lake City in Salt Lake County. It consists entirely of a one-way pair of 500 South and 600 South, two parallel one-way streets that connect I-15 and I-80 to downtown Salt Lake City. SR-269 was designated in 1960 and constructed later that decade, coinciding with the construction of I-15 in the area.
State Route 181 (SR-181) was a state highway in the U.S. state of Utah connecting SR-152 in Murray and Holladay north to SR-186 in Salt Lake City at its peak, the former being suburbs of the latter. The route was 6.9 miles (11.10 km) for thirty-eight years before being truncated in 2007 and decommissioned entirely later in the same year.
State Route 151 (SR-151), sometimes known as the South Jordan Parkway, is a state highway in the U.S. state of Utah connecting SR-154 in South Jordan to Interstate 15 (I-15) in Sandy. The route spans 4.24 miles (6.82 km) in southern Salt Lake County.
State Route 140 (SR-140) is a 0.936-mile (1.506 km) long state highway in the U.S. state of Utah. It runs from 800 West in Bluffdale to Interstate 15 (I-15).
5600 West BRT is a proposed bus rapid transit (BRT) line in western Salt Lake County, Utah, United States, that will be operated by the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) and will run along 5600 West (SR-172). Initially, it will only run along a short segment almost entirely within West Valley City, with a connection to Downtown Salt Lake City. However, it will eventually run from South Jordan to the Salt Lake City International Airport.) It is the fifth of several BRT lines that UTA either operates or has planned for in Utah County and the Salt Lake Valley. UTA's BRT is described by UTA as "light rail on rubber tires". While it was initially planned for phase 1 of the project to be completed in 2015, the project is currently stalled.
State Route 194 (SR-194) is a state highway in northern Utah County, Utah, in the United States that runs along 2100 North in Lehi and connects SR-68 with Interstate 15 and U.S. Route 89. The route is a part of the greater Mountain View Corridor project.
The West Davis Corridor is a 16-mile-long (26 km) freeway completely within Davis County in northern Utah. The corridor splits off from Interstate 15 (I-15) and U.S. Route 89 (US-89) along with the Legacy Parkway (SR-67) in Farmington and goes through the western confines of the Ogden–Clearfield metropolitan area before ending at an T-intersection with SR-193 in West Point.
