Description

The station is located on the campus of the University of Utah at 10 North Mario Capecchi Drive (formerly called Medical Drive), [Note 1] with both side platforms situated on the west side of the street. The station provides service for the nearby medical facilities, including the University of Utah Hospital, Primary Children's Medical Center, the Huntsman Cancer Institute, and the Moran Eye Center. Unlike many TRAX stations, University Medical Center does not have a Park and Ride lot, however, UTA indicates that there is "limited parking" available. [1] The station is part of a railway right of way that was created specifically for the former University Line. The station opened on 29 September 2003 [2] and is operated by the Utah Transit Authority.

Dual side platform stations, one for each direction of travel, is the basic station design used for double-track railway lines. Side platforms may result in a wider overall footprint for the station compared with an island platform where a single width of platform can be shared by riders using either track.

All of UTA's TRAX and FrontRunner trains and stations, streetcars and streetcar stops, and all fixed route buses are compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act and are therefore accessible to those with disabilities. [4] Signage at the stations, on the passenger platforms, and on the trains clearly indicate accessibility options. In accordance with the Utah Clean Air Act and UTA ordinance, "smoking is prohibited on UTA vehicles as well as UTA bus stops, TRAX stations, and FrontRunner stations". [5]

FrontRunner is a commuter rail train operated by the Utah Transit Authority that operates along the Wasatch Front in north-central Utah with service from Ogden in central Weber County through Davis County, Salt Lake City, and Salt Lake County to Provo in central Utah County.

Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 American law

The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination based on disability. It affords similar protections against discrimination to Americans with disabilities as the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which made discrimination based on race, religion, sex, national origin, and other characteristics illegal. In addition, unlike the Civil Rights Act, the ADA also requires covered employers to provide reasonable accommodations to employees with disabilities, and imposes accessibility requirements on public accommodations.

Train schedule

On weekdays the first (southbound) train (to the Daybreak Parkway Station) leaves the University Medical Center Station at about 5:30 am and the last train leaves at 11:30 pm. However, the last train only goes as far south as the Central Pointe Station; the last train to the Daybreak Parkway Station leaves at 11:00 pm. [Note 2]

On Saturdays the first (southbound) train leaves at about 7:00 am and the last southbound train leaves at 11:37 pm. However, the last southbound train only goes as far south as the Central Pointe Station; the last southbound train to the Daybreak Parkway Station leaves at 10:17 pm. [Note 2]

On Sundays the first (southbound) train leaves at about 10:00 am and the last southbound train leaves at 8:17 pm. However, the last southbound train only goes as far south as the Central Pointe Station; the last southbound train to the Daybreak Parkway Station leaves at 6:57 pm. [Note 2]

Red Line trains run every fifteen minutes on weekdays and every twenty minutes on weekends. [6] [7] [Note 2]
