Southern Season is a gourmet mail-order store based in Graham, North Carolina.
Until its closure in January 2020 after 44 years of operation, the flagship location was an emporium store in Chapel Hill, North Carolina which contained a cooking school, restaurant, and card and flower shop. The retail store also offered free daily gourmet food tastings to walk-in customers.
A Southern Season was created in 1975 by Michael Cooper Barefoot as a coffee roastery. In 1978, it was operating primarily as a retail store offering gourmet specialty food items in Chapel Hill. By 2003, it had moved up to a 59,000-square-foot (5,500 m2) space in Chapel Hill's University Mall, making it one of the largest specialty-only gourmet markets in the United States.
On August 2, 2011, it was announced that ownership of A Southern Season would transfer to TC Capital Fund, a joint venture between Carrboro Capital Corporation and Tryon Capital Ventures, LLC, [1] both companies local to the Triangle region of North Carolina. At the time of purchase, the company dropped the 'A' from its title.
On December 13, 2012, Southern Season announced plans to open a Charleston-area store in the neighboring suburb of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. [2] This second store opened for business on September 5, 2013. [3] The 44,000 square foot store was located at the Brookgreen Town Center on Coleman Boulevard and included one of the world's largest gourmet food markets. Like the flagship location in Chapel Hill, the Mount Pleasant store featured a selection of local and international products, a full-service restaurant, extensive wine and beer selection, a cooking school and an on-site bakery.
A third store opened on July 31, 2014, in Richmond, Virginia. The 50,000 square foot store was the first business to open in the new mixed-use Libbie Mills development on Staples Mill Road. [4] It closed on April 24, 2016. [5]
In June 2016, Southern Season declared bankruptcy. The former company operated under the name SSI Liquidations. On August 22, 2016, Calvert Retail - a Delaware-based retail company - acquired the Chapel Hill Southern Season store for $3.5 million. The acquisition did not include the Taste stores in Raleigh, Asheville, and Charleston. [6]
On November 11, 2019, it was announced that the store's Weathervane restaurant had closed, and the main store would be closing early the next year. In January 2020 it was reported that the Chapel Hill store had also closed, although the online retail facility based in Graham would continue operating. [7]
Stanford Shopping Center is an upscale open air shopping mall located on Route 82 at Sand Hill Road in Palo Alto, California. It is on the campus of Stanford University although the university only owns the land and not the actual buildings or stores. Also, unlike the rest of the campus, the shopping center and the neighboring Stanford University Medical Center are part of the city of Palo Alto, not the census-designated place (CDP) of Stanford, California. The shopping center buildings are 94.4% owned by Simon Property Group, which manages the property and leases the land from the university.

Thalhimers was a department store in the Southern United States. Based in Richmond, Virginia, the venerable chain at its peak operated dozens of stores in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and one store in Memphis, Tennessee. Thalhimer's traditions were most notable during the holiday season with visits from the sticker-distributing Snow Bear and, in later years, the arrival of Lego Land at the downtown Richmond store.

Miller & Rhoads was a Virginia-based department store chain. Throughout its 105-year lifespan, the store played an active role in the Richmond, Virginia community, along with its friendly cross-street rival Thalhimers. The Richmond flagship location was known for its "SantaLand" upstairs attraction, which has since become an attraction at the Children’s Museum of Richmond. In 1987, Campeau purchased Miller & Rhoads and later sold it to Philadelphia developer Kevin Donohoe and store management before closing in 1990.

Chapel Hill Mall was a shopping mall located at 2000 Brittain Road in Akron, Ohio, United States. Built by Richard (R.B.) Buchholzer and Forest City Enterprises, it opened on October 12, 1967. They continued to own the mall until 2004, when it was sold to the Chattanooga, Tennessee company CBL & Associates Properties, Inc., who owned it until 2014. At its peak the mall featured more than 100 stores, with Sears, J. C. Penney, and Macy's as anchor tenants.

The Shoppes at Bel Air, formerly Bel Air Mall, is a super-regional shopping mall, located in Mobile, Alabama, United States. The mall has a gross leasable area of 1,345,000 sq ft (125,000 m2). It is the oldest continuously operating enclosed super-regional mall in Alabama and serves as one of the primary retail venues for the west Mobile shopping district located at the vicinity of Airport Boulevard and Interstate 65. Mama Dip's is a traditional Southern country cooking restaurant located in North Carolina. It was founded by Mildred Council in 1976. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, seven days a week. Mama Dip's also offers an extensive take home menu. They sell items such as: barbecue sauce, poppy seed dressing, pecan pie, tee shirts, aprons, caps, mugs, and gift certificates at the general store located within the restaurant. In addition, "Mama Dip" makes bottles and distributes her own special barbecue sauce and dressings to many local specialty foods shops.

Eataly is a chain of large format/footprint Italian marketplaces comprising a variety of restaurants, food and beverage counters, bakery, retail items, and a cooking school. Eataly was founded by Oscar Farinetti, an entrepreneur formerly involved in the consumer electronics business, and collaborates with Slow Food. Since 1 October 2016, Eataly has been led by Andrea Guerra, the executive chairman.
University Place is the only enclosed shopping mall in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The mall is anchored by SilverSpot Cinema.The gross leasable area of the center is 366,000 square feet. The mall is located about two miles northeast from downtown and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Today the mall has an even mix of national and local stores, with a focus on specialty retailers.
