It is primarily used for baseball and is currently the home of the Spartanburg High School baseball team and the Spartanburg Post 28 American Legion Baseball (ALB) team. The ballpark has a capacity of 3,000 people and opened in 1926. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.

Also known as the “Southern Cape Baseball League” Established in 1999, the league has six teams located in the Charlotte metropolitan area of North Carolina and South Carolina. College players from four-year institutions as well as junior and community colleges are eligible to play. The SCBL differs from other summer wooden bat leagues in that pitchers may only throw a maximum of 85 pitches per game. At the end of the season, the teams play in a tournament to determine the league champion.
