Specular Interactive, Inc. is an arcade game entertainment company based in Foothill Ranch, California. It is best known for developing arcade games H2Overdrive, Dirty Drivin', and Batman (2013 arcade game).

History

Specular Interactive was formed in early 2007 by Steve Ranck. Before Specular, Steve founded Swingin’ Ape Studios. [1]

It was announced in November 2007 that Specular Interactive had signed an agreement with Raw Thrills to create a premium coin-operated arcade game. Under the agreement, Specular Interactive would design and develop the game while Raw Thrills will manufacture and publish the game worldwide. [2]

The company's first game was H2Overdrive, [3] followed by Dirty Drivin' [4] . In 2013, Specular Interactive teamed with Raw Thrills and Warner Bros. to release Batman (2013 arcade video game).

The company has been interested in developing a sequel to Metal Arms: Glitch in the System [5] [6] as the team at Specular was behind the cult favorite.

Atari Games Former American arcade game developer

Atari Games Corporation was an American producer of arcade games. It was originally the coin-operated arcade game division of Atari, Inc. and was split off into its own company in 1984 when it was sold by Warner Communications. It was one of several companies to use the name Atari. The company developed and published games for arcades and across consumer gaming consoles such as the Commodore 16, Commodore 64, Game Boy, Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and other platforms. Insomniac Games, Inc. is an American video game developer based in Burbank, California and a studio of PlayStation Studios. It was founded in 1994 by Ted Price as Xtreme Software, and was renamed Insomniac Games a year later. The company is most known for developing several early PlayStation mascots, Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet and Clank, as well as the Resistance franchise, 2014's Sunset Overdrive and the Marvel's Spider-Man series with Marvel Games. In 2019, the studio was acquired by Sony Interactive Entertainment, becoming a part of SIE Worldwide Studios.

Eugene Jarvis American game designer and programmer

Eugene Peyton Jarvis is an American game designer and video game programmer, known for producing pinball machines for Atari and video games for Williams Electronics. Most notable amongst his works are the seminal arcade video games Defender and Robotron: 2084 in the early 1980s, and the Cruis'n series of driving games for Midway Games in the 1990s. He co-founded Vid Kidz in the early 1980s and currently leads his own development studio, Raw Thrills Inc. In 2008, Eugene Jarvis was named the first Game Designer in Residence by DePaul University's Game Development program. His family owns the Jarvis Wines company in Napa, California.

Stern is the name of two different but related arcade gaming companies. Stern Electronics, Inc. manufactured arcade video games and pinball machines from 1977 until 1985, and was known for 1980s Berzerk. Stern Pinball, Inc., founded in 1999, is a manufacturer of pinball machines in North America.

<i>Hard Drivin</i> 1989 arcade game

Hard Drivin' is a driving video game developed by Atari Games in 1989. It invites players to test drive a sports car on courses that emphasizes stunts and speed. The game features one of the first 3D polygon driving environments via a simulator cabinet with a force feedback steering wheel and using a custom rendering architecture. According to the in-game credit screen, Hard Drivin' was designed by two teams working concurrently in the United States and Ireland.

The Fast and the Furious is a racing video game based on the film of the same name. The game was released in several versions, first was the so-called "2D version" developed and published by I-play for mobile phones and released on March 4, 2004 and then the so-called "arcade version" developed and published by Raw Thrills for Arcade in July 2004, and later I-play releases the so-called "3D version" developed by Juice Games for mobile phones in September 2005.

Cruis'n is a series of racing video games originally developed by Eugene Jarvis for Midway Games and published by Midway and Nintendo. The series distinguishes itself from other racing games with its over-the-top presentation and fast-paced gameplay, featuring a wide variety of vehicles and tracks based on a variety of real world locations. The series debuted in North American and European arcades in 1994 with the release of Cruis'n USA, which, along with Killer Instinct, was advertised as running on Nintendo's Ultra 64 hardware. Two sequels followed, Cruis'n World and Cruis'n Exotica, which featured new vehicles and tracks. All three games were released for the Nintendo 64 as well, with Exotica also being released for the handheld Game Boy Color. Batman: Arkham Asylum is a 2009 action-adventure game developed by Rocksteady Studios and published by Eidos Interactive in conjunction with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Based on the DC Comics superhero Batman and written by veteran Batman writer Paul Dini, Arkham Asylum was inspired by the long-running comic book mythos. H2Overdrive is a powerboat arcade racing game developed by Specular Interactive and released in 2009 by Raw Thrills. It is considered a spiritual successor to Hydro Thunder. The game was also released in the People's Republic of China by UNIS.

<i>Dirty Drivin</i> 2011 video game

Dirty Drivin' is an arcade racing game developed by Specular Interactive and released by Raw Thrills in 2011. The game was also released in the People's Republic of China, which was unveiled at the GTI Asia China Expo. The game's main track played throughout the menu is More Human than Human by White Zombie.
