Sri Lanka contested in the 2016 South Asian Games in Guwahati and Shillong, India from 5 February to 16 February 2016. The team consisted of 484 athletes (257 men and 227 women) in all 23 sports. [1] Athlete Manjula Kumara was the country's flagbearer during the opening ceremony. [2]

South Africa was represented at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne by an unknown member strong contingent, consisting of athletes and various officials.
For the athletics competitions at the 2012 Summer Olympics the following qualification systems were in place. The list has been updated to 30 June 2012. Qualification ended on 8 July 2012.
Athletics competitions at the 2011 Island Games in the Isle of Wight was held from June 26 to July 1 at the Fairway Sports Complex. The half marathon event was held on a double-loop circuit through the surrounding area.
The track and field competition at the 2011 Military World Games was held from 17–23 July 2011 at the Estádio Olímpico João Havelange in Rio de Janeiro. The programme contained 35 athletics events, 20 for men and 15 for women. The marathon races took place on 17 July while the track and field events were held in the stadium from 19–23 July.

The South American U18 Championships in Athletics is a biennial athletics event organized by "Confederación Sudamericana de Atletismo" (CONSUDATLE), the South American area association of the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF). Starting in 1973, the competition was open for athletes under-17 in the early years. Since 2000 the international age group definition has applied. Up until the 2016 edition the competition was known as the South American Youth Championships in Athletics. The tournament is open for athletes from CONSUDATLE member federations. Athletes from IAAF members of other geographical areas may be invited. However, they are not considered in the classification.
The 2009 European Team Championships Super League was the Super League of the 1st edition of the European Team Championships, the 2009 European Team Championships, which took place on 20 and 21 June 2009 in Leiria, Portugal. The 2018 British Athletics Championships was the national championship in outdoor track and field for athletes in the United Kingdom, held from 3–5 July 2018 at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham. It was organised by UK Athletics. A full range of outdoor events were held up to 5000 metres. The competition served as the main selection event for the 2018 European Athletics Championships and the 2018 Athletics World Cup.
2022 in athletics was a year highlighted by an unusual number of significant athletics events. The delayed 2020 Olympic program led to the 2021 World Athletics Championships being rearranged for 2022, while events normally held in the middle years of Olympic cycles, such as the Commonwealth Games athletics program and the various continental championships were also held, meaning significant numbers of athletes had several peaks in quick succession, particularly Canadian, British, Australian, Kenyan and South African athletes.
