Deshabandu Marvan Samson Atapattu is a Sri Lankan cricket coach and former cricketer who played for 17 years for Sri Lanka. Considered one of the most technically sound batsman in his era, Atapattu has scored six double centuries in Test cricket for Sri Lanka, irrespective of five ducks in his first six innings.
The Indian Oil Cup 2005 was a three-team One Day International (ODI) cricket tournament held in Sri Lanka between 30 July and 7 August 2005. The participating teams were hosts Sri Lanka, and India and West Indies. Sri Lanka won the tournament beating India by 18 runs in the final.
The Sri Lanka national cricket team toured India for cricket matches in October, November and December 2005. The tour was split into two legs, as India hosted South Africa for a One Day International series in between the India–Sri Lanka ODIs and the Tests, which took place in December. Before the ODI series, India were ranked seventh on the ICC ODI Championship table, while Sri Lanka were second, and the Indian team had officially changed captains with Rahul Dravid taking over from Sourav Ganguly. However, India defied the rankings, winning the first four ODIs of seven to secure the series, and ended up with a 6–1 win despite resting captain Dravid and letting opener Virender Sehwag take over the helm for the sixth ODI. Sanath Jayasuriya, Sri Lanka's opener with 100 Tests and 345 ODIs, was dropped for the Tests after tallying 86 runs in the six ODIs, while Rahul Dravid moved up 18 places on the ICC player rankings with 312 runs for twice out. India's wicket-keeper MS Dhoni also made his mark, being the second highest averaging batsman of the series, and he made 183 not out in 3rd ODI matches at Jaipur, which was at the time the sixth-highest innings by a batsman in an ODI.
The India cricket team toured Sri Lanka between 18 July and 2 September 2001. The two sides played a triangular ODI series also involving New Zealand, following which they played a three-match Test series. India's tour also included a one-day and a three-day fixture ahead of the ODI and Test series respectively.
The Indian cricket team toured Sri Lanka from 12 July to 14 August 1993. The tour began with a first-class fixture against Sri Lanka Board President's XI and ended with the final ODI game. In all, it consisted of one first-class game, and three Test and One Day Internationals (ODIs) each.

During the first Test match, Sri Lanka scored 952 runs for 6 wickets, the highest team total in Test cricket. Several more records were established in this match, including the highest partnership for the second wicket by Sanath Jayasuriya and Roshan Mahanama. The Test series ended without a result, with both Test matches drawn.

The South Africa national cricket team toured Sri Lanka during the 2004 season, playing two Tests from 4 to 15 August 2004. South Africa was led by Graeme Smith while Sri Lanka was led by Marvan Atapattu. Sri Lanka won the Test series 1–0 with one match drawn.
The Indian cricket team toured Sri Lanka from 23 July to 29 August.

The Pakistan national cricket team toured Sri Lanka from 16 to 30 April 1997. The tour included two Tests between Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Pakistan also played a first-class against Sri Lanka Board XI. The Test series ended in a draw with both matches drawn.
The 1997 Pepsi Independence Cup was a quadrangular ODI cricket tournament held in May 1997 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the independence of India. It featured the national cricket teams of New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the hosts India. The tournament was won by Sri Lanka, which defeated Pakistan in the best-of-three finals.
The Sri Lanka national cricket team toured India during the 1997–98 cricket season, playing three Test matches and three One Day Internationals (ODIs). Both series were drawn; all three Tests were draws, and each side won one of the ODIs, tying the series 1–1. The other ODI, which was held on 25 December, was abandoned after three overs had been bowled, when after discussion between the two captains and the match referee, it was determined that the inconsistent bounce of the pitch was too dangerous for the players. This was the first occasion on which an international cricket match had been called off for this reason.
Sri Lankan women's cricket team toured New Zealand in November 2015. The tour included a series of 5 ODIs and 3 T20Is. The first 3 of the 5 ODIs matches were also part of the 2014–16 ICC Women's Championship. The Sri Lanka team was announced on 8 October 2015 and the captaincy was given back to all-rounder Shashikala Siriwardene. However, on the third WODI, Siriwardene suffered a thumb fracture injury which forced her to retire from the tour and the captaincy for the remaining matches was given back to the previous captain Chamari Atapattu.
South African women's cricket team toured Sri Lanka in the beginning of 2014–15 season. The tour consisted of a series of 4 One day internationals and 3 Twenty20 internationals. First three of the four ODIs formed a part of the 2014–16 ICC Women's Championship.
The India cricket team toured Sri Lanka between July and September 2017 to play three Test matches, five One Day Internationals (ODIs) and a Twenty20 International match. Ahead of the Test series, the teams played a two-day warm-up match in Colombo.

The English women's cricket team toured Sri Lanka and India in November and December 2005. Against Sri Lanka, they played two One Day Internationals, winning the series 2–0. Against India, they played one Test match and 5 ODIs. The Test match was drawn, whilst India won the ODI series 4–1.
