St. Agnes Academy (Spanish : Academia de Sta. Ines) ) is a private Catholic basic education institution run by the Congregation of the Missionary Benedictine Sisters of Tutzing in Legazpi, Albay Philippines. It was founded in 1912 and is the oldest Catholic school in the province of Albay, Bicol, Philippines. [2] [3]

Contents

The school provides education for kindergarten, preschool, elementary and high school. The school is a co-educational institution. In its early history, the school was an all-girls school but in the 1980s, its enrolment was opened to male students.[ citation needed ]

St. Agnes Academy had its centennial celebration in the school year 2012–2013. [4]

St. Agnes Academy's Basic Education program was granted re-accreditation by the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools Colleges and Universities (PAASCU) until February 2025. [5]

Rodel Masigan Batocabe was a Filipino lawyer, politician, and member of the Ako Bicol Political Party (AKB). Batocabe served in the House of Representatives of the Philippines for three terms from 2010 until his murder in office on December 22, 2018, at a gift-giving event for senior citizens in the village of Burgos, Daraga municipality, Albay. Batocabe was first elected to House of Representatives of the Philippines in 2010, an office he held until his death and was the first sitting member of the House of Representatives to be killed during the administration of Rodrigo Duterte, but he was the 21st Filipino official to be murdered since Duterte's tenure began in 2016. Batocabe was a political ally of President Duterte.
