The Society of the Priests of Saint-Sulpice is a society of apostolic life of the Catholic Church named after the Church of Saint-Sulpice, Paris, in turn named after Sulpitius the Pious, where they were founded. Typically, priests become members of the Society of the Priests of St. Sulpice only after ordination and some years of pastoral work. The purpose of the society is mainly the education of priests and to some extent parish work. As their main role is the education of those preparing to become members of the presbyterate, Sulpicians place great emphasis on the academic and spiritual formation of their own members, who commit themselves to undergoing lifelong development in these areas. The Society is divided into three provinces, operating in various countries: the Province of France, Canada, and the United States.

Archbishop Savarinathan Michael Augustine was an Indian prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Pondicherry and Cuddalore from 1992 to 2004. He was an honorary member of Society of Foreign Missions of Paris. He served the church for 39 years as a bishop and for 56 years as a priest. He died on 4 November 2017 at the age of 84.

He was the bishop until 16 August 1929. He resigned due to health reasons. He was succeeded by Auguste-Siméon Colas.

Joseph-Adolphe Gandy was a member of Paris Foreign Missions Society and was the archbishop of Archdiocese of Pondicherry. On 16 March 1883 he was appointed as a Coadjutor Vicar Apostolic to succeed Bishop Laouënan. He was consecrated as a bishop on 9 September 1883 with Tricale as his titular see. When Pope Leo XII established Catholic hierarchy in India, he was appointed as the Coadjutor Archbishop of Pondicherry on 15 January 1889. After the death of Mgr. Laouënan he succeed him on 29 September 1892. He was the archbishop until his death on 26 March 1909. He was succeeded by Elie-Jean-Joseph Morel.
